Too Spooky? for 3 Girl JAM

There's a new challenge starting today on the 3 Girl JAM Challenge blog. The theme this month is "Spooky and Creepy with Ribbon".  It starts today and goes until Oct. 31.
I showed a card yesterday on my blog and the 3 Girl JAM blog, and today's is very similar.  Same card design, same feel to it, another card I can use for nursing home residents.  But, I'm wondering.  Is she too spooky? LOL

Isn't she the sweetest witch you've ever seen?  I adore her!  I did NOT color this image.  She is a Whoopsi Daisy pre-printed stamp. I just printed her on my printer, and designed the card around her.
The diagonal ribbon on this card is new in the 3 Girl JAM store.  It comes in 4 colors.
The sentiment is from Unity Stamp Company.  Papers are from Fancy Pants, and I've had them forever.  The glitter paper is from American Crafts. I used some Tim Holtz Distress Ink around the image.  Several Spellbinders dies were used.
Want a discount when you shop at the 3 Girl JAM Store? Use discount code JO10 for 10% off your ENTIRE order.  Sweet!
Come join our "Spooky and Creepy" with ribbon challenge.  It doesn't get spookier than this!
I'd like to enter this card in the following challenges:

A Tangled Mess -- for Fitztown

Monday already?  How did that happen?  And it's time for a new challenge on the Fitztown Challenge blog.  This week's this is "Animals".  Yeah, I like that one!  I'm sort of in Christmas card mode these days, so when trying to figure out what digi to use, I found this really cute one called "winter snowbird".  A bird is an animal, right?

This stamp can be found in the Morgan's Fae World Etsy Shop.  It's available in this pre-printed version I used here, or a regular digi stamp.
I printed it twice, and fussy cut it once, wrapped some Cherry Red Timeless Twine around it, and used 3D foam tape to place it on top of the first printed image.  The sentiment is from Unity Stamp Company.  It seemed to fit this little snow bird perfectly! Papers are from Echo Park.
Come join in the Fitztown Animal Challenge -- you know you want to!
I'd like to enter this card in the following challenges:

A Love Story -- for Pinque Peacock and Friends With Flair

Woohoo, it's Friday! and it's my day to post on the Pinque Peacock  blog.  I love Fridays!  I love it when I can post for Pinque Peacock AND combine it with my Friends With Flair post -- they're a GREAT match!
I used several Pinque Peacock products on a card I made today, and 2 different Unity stamp sets.  First, let me show you what I created....

This card uses the Unity Stamp set "Handmade Valentines" .  I used it to make the background.  The Kraft mini bag is from The Discount Hut @ Pinque Peacock.  I used the bag as a pocket, and decorated it up with a small Layered Garden Beauty from Pinque Peacock.  The hearts washi tape is from my stash.
When you pull out the tag, I used another Unity Stamp Company stamp:

The sentiment is from a Unity Stamp of the Week, "A True Love Story".
Valentine's Day may be over, but it's never too late to let someone know how much you love them.  I know just who this card is going to!

Mixed Media Art Journal Girlz Blog Hop and FWF --plus blog candy! Woohoo!!

Hello, all you artsy types, and welcome to my blog! I'm participating today in an art journal blog hop! And I'm in way over my head -- as you'll soon see! You should have arrived from the beautiful and talented Rebecca's blog.
My friend, Maria, has organized several of these hops.  And they always seem like so much fun, and such a good idea.  I OWN an art journal after all, and she gives us plenty of notice, BUT>>>
Well, here's the thing.  Art journals intimidate me.  I see that big, blank piece of paper, and I have no idea what to do with it.  So, here's what I did:
I got out the gesso.  Gesso's good, right? Artists use gesso, this is an art journal.  Then, I got out some Faber Castell Gelatos, and a Unity/Christy Tomlinson stamp, a squirt bottle of water, and here's what happened...

I tried to make the Gelatos look rather like a rainbow.  The stamp is called, "Through the Changes", and I really like the message of it. I got this far on it, and thought about what else to add.  Some stenciling? Hearts? After all, it's Valentine's Day.  But, I liked it just the way it was.  Anything else seemed like it might detract from the rainbow, the moth, and the sentiment.  So, I stopped.  Art is knowing when to sign your name, right?  Here's a close up for you.

I'm a much better card maker than I am an art journalist, so I made a card to share with you today.  It's my husband's Valentines Day card.  We've had one of the coldest, snowiest winters on record, and that is what I was thinking about while designing this card:

The image and sentiment are a Unity Stamp Company Itty Bitty, "My Heart Melts {snowpeeps Frosty and Misty}". There's some Cherry Red Timeless Twine wrapped here and there on this card, too.
The papers used are Close To My Heart in Outdoor Denim for the card base, Neenah Classic Solar White to stamp the image on, and My Mind's Eye 'Tis The Season' 6x6 papers.  I colored the snow peeps with Copic markers. Spellbinders label dies were also used.

Did I mention I have blog candy?  You need a reward for sticking through all this!  I have a bunch of goodies to give away -- stamps, twine, ribbon, rub-ons, embellishments, a 6x6 paper pad.  Please follow my blog and leave a comment on this post.  I'll announce the winner early next week.
There's one more stop on today's hop. You are in for a treat, visiting Tameko's blog.  She does the greatest art journals! Hop on and have fun!

I'd like to enter this card in the following challenge:

Hearts -- DigiStamps4Joy Challenge #85

Hello, and happy Wednesday, blog friends.  We finally started a morning with above zero temperatures, so perhaps the worst of winter is behind us! I can only hope!
DigiStamps4Joy is in the middle of a Hearts challenge, hosted by Karin.  You can see the details on the DigiStamps4Joy blog, and more of Karin's beautiful work on her blog.  It's almost Valentine's Day, so it's the perfect time to make something with hearts, and link it up to our challenge!
I used the beautiful "Vase of Hearts" image for my card.
And with it, I created this:

I colored the DigiStamps4Joy image with Copic markers, then cut it out with a circle die by Lifestyle Crafts.  The heart shaped card cutting file can be found at The Cutting Cafe.  The sentiment is from a Unity Stamp Company kit, "Handmade Valentines".  The crinkle ribbon is 3 Girl JAM Ice Blue ribbon from the Hot & Cold Bundle.  The stick pin, bling flourish, and bling button are from Close To My Heart. Designer papers are a Carta Bella Devoted 6x6 pad.
Now it's your turn.  We'd love it if you used a digi from the Digistamps4Joy store, then link up for the challenge.  See you there!
I would like to enter this card in the following challenges:
A Random Fan challenge blog -- Hugs & Kisses -- Valentine Theme
Crafty Sentiments -- Buttons & bows (I have both on this card
Paper Take Weekly -- With a Heart
Tuesday Throwdown -- Roses are Red, Violets are Blue challenge

Two Little Words for Friends With Flair

Oh yeah! It's Friday! And time for my favorite post of the week -- Unity Friends With Flair.  This is "my post", a chance to use my favorite stamps, a chance to create what I want, with whatever theme I want.  It's "me" time!
Did any of you choose 'one little word' for a theme for 2014?  I chose 2 words, and they come with a story (as many of my FWF posts do).  Mid-December, I had terrible pain in my left shoulder.  It lasted two days (and 2 sleepless nights), got better, but then the same thing happened to my right shoulder.  I had injured the left shoulder this summer, so I thought I had re-injured it.  I chalked the right shoulder up to over use.  Three days later, my left hand swelled up and had the same terrible pain.  At that point, I freaked out and saw a doctor.  After many blood tests and a couple days of waiting (at which time, my right hand was attacked), she suspected rheumatoid arthritis (RA).  This was something I didn't want to hear.  I've worked in a nursing home for many years and have seen the results of RA.  I DON'T want this!
Since then, I've seen a rheumatologist.  And, he's confirmed the diagnosis.  It's RA.  And, this is where my two little words, and today's card comes in:

These are my two words for this year, and, I hope, for many years to come.  I can take on this chronic illness and make the most of it, looking for the joy in life, or I can let it defeat me.  I've always been a fighter.  And there are lots worse things in life I could have.  Right now, it's the newness of the diagnoses, and not knowing what lies ahead that is hard.  I've started on medication for the debilitating pain and inflammation, but it will take 2-6 months to take effect.  In the meantime, I haven't slept through an entire night since Dec. 11.  But, I will, and this will all get sorted out.  I have confidence! Some days the pain is so bad it hurts to pick up a piece of paper.  But I have confidence we will eventually find the right medicine! And fatigue?  Uff da.  I drag through my days!
Although there may be many major changes ahead for me and my husband, hopefully many things will stay the same.

I used the current sketch from the Unity Be Inspired Challenge for this card. I heat embossed the "Choose Joy" sentiment stamp (Unity/Stephanie Ackerman) and colored in the heart with a Close To My Heart Tulip marker. There is my favorite chipboard on this card -- Umwow Studios Heart Confetti. Sometimes, I just have to leave it plain, 'cause it looks perfect just the way it is.  On one of the hearts, I used some gesso, then 2 colors of Creative Inspirations Paint -- Garnet & a very small amount of Burgundy.
The cardstock base is CTMH Ruby, as is the Kraft CS.  Designer paper is Carta Bella 6x6 Wildflower. And, the twine, is, of course, Timeless Twine in Tuxedo Black.

So, 'Choose Joy' my friends!  CHOOSE JOY!

Winter Cheer for a Happy New Year -- for 3 Girl JAM

Happy Thursday, crafty friends! I'm pleased to be starting my second term for 3 Girl JAM today.  I love this team and working for Julie.  Crinkle ribbon is so versatile and FUN!  Plus, I enjoy the Flair buttons, jute, and muslin bags in the 3 Girl JAM store.
I remember almost a year ago when I first started on the 3 Girl JAM design team.  I was so scared!  I thought Julie had made a big mistake and she'd realize I was a fraud and kick me off.  I couldn't even tie a bow, for goodness sake! Thank goodness she had faith in me, because I've had soooooo much fun on this team and made some great friendships besides.
Oh? Am I supposed to post an inspirational project?  Well, let's get to it!

This little snowman, surrounded by 3 Girl JAM crinkle ribbon from the Hot & Cold Bundle, is bringing you Happy New Year's wishes.
The snowman is Snow Peep Grant (Let's Get Slushed) from Unity Stamp Company.  I colored him with Copic markers.  Papers are My Mind's Eye Hootenanny 6x6.
Need some of this fabulous crinkle ribbon? Use coupon code JO10 and get 10% off of your order at the 3 Girl JAM store!
I'm so excited to be starting another 6 months with this fabulous 3 Girl JAM team!

New Year's Advice -- for The Cutting Cafe

We're a week into 2014, and I'm still offering advice!  It's in my nature, I guess!  I'm also thrilled to be posting my first card today for my second term with The Cutting Café.  I love this team, and the wonderful cutting files and printable stamps Regina Easter designs for us to use.  This week was a "free week" -- a chance for us to use anything from The Cutting Café that we wanted.  I knew right away what I wanted to use -- this very fun cutting file:

This high heeled shoe shaped card is just too much fun! I paired it with a Unity Sentiment stamp set, "I am Woman" to offer you a little advice for the New year.  Papers are from Close To My Heart.
Here's another slightly different angle so you can see that it is truly a card:

I embellished this card with a Close To My Heart brad & bling, ribbon from 3 Girl JAM, and a feather from Darice.
Remember to visit The Cutting Café blog for inspiration, and on Thursday, a chance to win 3 free sets of your choice. Pick this one! It's a riot!

My father-in-law's birthday is today.  He is a tea drinker, so I wanted to make him a gift that reflected that.  We got him a gift certificate to the local book store, and I made this to put it in...

I found this teapot gift box file in the Silhouette online store. I used Sarita papers from Close To My Heart, and cut it out on my Cameo.  My in-laws collect art from the Southwest US, and this paper reminded me of some of the art they collect.
Here's another view of a slightly different angle:

I made him a card to match the theme.  Here it is:

This teapot shaped card is a cutting file from The Cutting Café. Ribbons on both projects are from 3 Girl JAM. The sentiment is from Unity Stamp Co., and is mounted on a piece of wood veneer, also from Unity.
How's that for a coordinated pair of gifts?
I hope you like my inspiration for the 3D challenge.  Now, go check out what the others made, and make your own 3D creation!

'Tis The Season Blog Hop

Welcome to our

We are on Day 2!

There are only a few stops on this hop each day, and you are going to love the projects you see.

I am the last stop

Here is the entire list of stops for day 2:

I thought long and hard about what to create for this hop.  I wanted something with a holiday theme, of course, something 3D (for some reason, I'm not sure why that was important to me, but it was), and I wanted it to be something I could use in the near future for a gift.  Well, on the first snowy day here in NW Wisconsin, I got my inspiration.  Make something with a snowflake theme! So, I did...

I found this snowflake gift box and matching card cutting file at The Cutting Café.  I cut them out on my Silhouette, using Echo Park papers on the card and Close To My Heart papers on the box.
Here's a view of the Snowflake box (Snowflake Kisses Box set)

And, a different angle of it so you can tell the size a little better, and see the pretty handle:

Here's a close up of the card.  It used the "Fun With Snowflakes" cutting file from The Cutting Café:

The sentiment on the card is a Unity Stamp of the Week, "Simple Snowman Joy".

I have blog candy to give away.  I have been shopping and saving for quite some time, hoping to get to 300 followers, and I am very, very close.  If I get there this weekend, I will pick two winners.  I have 6x6 papers, Unity stamps, Close To My Heart Stamps, 3 Girl JAM ribbon, rubons, embellishments, embossing folders, Pinque Peacock beauties, brads -- lots of great stuff! To be eligible, please follow my blog and leave a comment on this post.  I will pick the winner(s) early this week.

I am the last stop on the hop.  If you just happened by my blog, or if you missed any of the other stops, please visit the other stops.  Some of them have blog candy to give away, too.  Please read their instructions, as they may be different than mine.  Don't forget about yesterday's hop also.

Thank you for hopping with us!!!!

Autumn Birthday Cards

Hello, my crafty friends.  I'm posting today on the Creative Inspirations Paint blog.  I'm still new enough at this that I get excited and nervous each time I post a project!  Today, I have two birthday cards I made using Creative Inspirations Paint to share with you. They both use the same technique:

I started with a white cardstock base.  I used some Studio Calico mists to add some color splatters to the stark white.  Then, I stamped the Unity Stamp Co leaf stamps from the "Grateful Hearts" stamp set randomly on the paper.  I used Close To My Heart inks in Olive, Barn Red, Autumn Terracotta, and Goldrush.  The sentiment, from Close To My Heart, is stamped in Barn Red ink. I then chose paint colors that I thought would compliment the inks, and painted the leaves, using it more like a wash, just to get the shimmer.  I used Creative Inspirations Paint in Rustic Red (on sale!), Green Olive, Pumpkin (on sale!), and Burnt Clay (on sale!).

Here's another angle of the first card to better show the shimmer...

I placed a few sparkles from my stash on the card, too, to add a little bling.  This card was one of my husband's birthday cards last month.  He loved it!
His sisters' birthday is a couple weeks after his, and we got together to celebrate them both. Here's the card I gave to her:

I used the exact same technique on this card, only stamping the random leaves a little differently, and using pearls instead of rhinestones. Don't you love the leaves in the background?  That was our backyard about a month ago.  All the leaves are gone now. :(   Winter's coming.
Here's a view of the shimmer...

I LOVE this paint! If you haven't tried it yet, you need to treat yourself.  With the sale colors, now's the perfect time!

Gobble 'Til you Wobble!

Only 2 weeks until Thanksgiving? Where is this month going? I'm combining my Cutting Café project today with my second guest designing post for Sparkly Sweet Craft Notions. The wonderful ribbon worked brilliantly with the step card, so it was a perfect fit.
The entire Cutting Café design team is making step cards this week.  I can't wait to see what everyone else has done.  Check out The Cutting Café blog later today or Thursday -- you'll be amazed!  And, leave a comment for a chance to win 3 sets of your own.
Here's my step card, with a twist (or should I say wobble?)

There's a lot going on with this card, so I'll start with the fun ribbon. This is 3/4 " woven twill from the Sparkly Sweet Craft Notion Store.
This side step card from The Cutting Café was very fun to put together.  The turkey is part of the turkey shaped card cutting file, and the "Give Thanks" sentiment and frame are from the "Autumn Days" Printable Stamp set.
The "Gobble 'Til You Wobble" sentiment is a Unity stamp.
Now, for the "surprise.  The turkey is on an action spring, so he actually wobbles! How fun is that?!?
I tried to get him in motion, but my camera didn't capture the movement well...

You can see a little movement, but the camera "captured" the turkey far too well.  I was hoping for a little blur, but couldn't get it.
I took a picture from the side of the card so you could see the action spring:

The adhesive springs are from Close To My Heart. The designer papers are Echo Park Reflections Fall.  The card base is Kraft (Close To My Heart).
Oh, what fun I had with THIS card! Between the wonderful ribbon to work with and the very fun cutting files, I had a BLAST!

I love the new releases available from Pinque Peacock this month. You can't help but think "holiday" when you see them!  When I saw the gingerbread themed goodies, I knew I wanted to make something using them.  I love using my Silhouette, and love making gift bags and boxes, so I went on the hunt for something 3D.  Look what I found!!

I found this Gingerbread house treat box in the Silhouette Online Store.  If you'd like to make it, you'll find it HERE.  The file calls for a wreath on the front door, but why have a wreath when a Pinque Peacock red burlap 3/4" button is available? Wait until you see the back!
The beautiful ribbon is from Sparkly Sweet Craft Notions. The stamp is a Unity stamp -- Gingham Christmas Greetings (formerly Ippity). I cut the tag out using a Spellbinders die.
OK, now for the back side of the tote...
Voila!

Don't you love that fabric popper?  It looks so pretty with the Kraft paper on the box.  And contrasts so nicely with the windows and trim of the house.  Love!
Here's a close up of it...

I love those little gingerbread men in the fabric.  So festive!

A great gift box -- for The Cutting Cafe

I love making gift boxes and bags.  They are one of the favorite things I make with my diecut machines.  So, when Regina, from The Cutting Café, gave us the assignment of making a pizza box this week, I was very excited.  And, as it turned out, I needed a box for my Sister-in-law's birthday gift.  Perfect!
I set to work, picking out my papers and deciding how to embellish the box. Here's what I came up with...

The pizza box was very easy to cut out and assemble. I used Pink Paislee Prairie Hill 12x12 papers on this project.  I loved working with them -- they have a nostalgic feel to them.  I used a chipboard tag from Bazzill, covered it with designer paper, and used a Unity Stamp on it from the Sweet Celebration birthday set.  The rhinestone brad is from Making Memories, and the twine bow is Trendy Twine.
Here's a view of the inside of the box:

The bow is also from The Cutting Café.  It's called "Loopy loopy bow flower" cutting file.
I'll leave you with a close up of the bow and sentiment...

That's it for me today.  I'm off to make more pizza boxes!  I love this thing!

Best Witches -- for Creative Inspirations Paint

Happy Halloween, my crafty friends!  I'm picking up an extra post for the Creative Inspirations Paint blog.  It is pure pleasure to have an opportunity to work with these paints a little more.  And what day could be more fun to post than Halloween?
Those of you who frequent my blog and know my style know that I often make 2 similar cards using the same card base.  That's what I did today.  I cut one 8 1/2x11 piece of gray cardstock in half, made two card bases out of it, and built from there.  So, I have two similar in design, yet quite different in appearance cards to share.
Here's the first one:

I stamped my witch hat image, then painted it with the following Creative Inspirations Paints: Pumpkin, Orange, Light Purple, Royal Purple, Evergreen, and Green Olive.  I love how well the paints blend together!
In real life, the witch's hat is incredibly shimmery! I tried to get a photograph of the shimmer.  Photos just don't do these paints justice, but here's my attempt at it:

Can you see the shimmer on that hat? It's so pretty it spooks me!
Now, on to the second, similar card...

I used the same stamp for my image, the same colors of Creative Inspirations Paint (Pumpkin, Orange, Light Purple, Royal Purple, Evergreen, Green Olive), but mixed it up some, changing the look of the witch's hat.  Both hats are fussy cut, then attached with foam tape for a little 3D effect.
And, here's another view of the second card, again trying to photograph the incredible shimmer of Creative Inspirations Paint.

I love, love, love that shimmer!
The stamp set that I used on these cards is from Unity Stamp Company.  It's called "You Witch!". The papers are all from Close To My Heart.  They are some retired Halloween papers from 2012. The bling is from my stash.
Here are all the paints I used. So pretty.

Thanks for visiting today.  Have a safe, candy filled Halloween!
