I found quinces in the new greengrocer's that set up shop in our town a few months ago. So I bought four of them, two bottles of very cheap vodka, and now I'm making quince liqueur again. It turned out very well the previous time I did it! And it's dead easy (no boiling or peeling involved) so if you have quinces, this may be the way to go.
It's a nice store. They sell many types of fruit and vegetables, and also cheese, nuts, mushrooms, dried fruits and fresh herbs. There are always good specials going on and you can pack your own vegetables and fruits into plastic or paper bags, so you buy exactly what you need and there isn't a ton of packaging. It's a great addition to the town's assortiment of shops.

New Instructable!
Thursday, 15 September 2016 11:48I made an Instructable about something that's actually useful this time: a remedy for bug bites. It stops the itching almost instantly. You should try it, it's really good.
Diluted ammonia is a well known home remedy for mosquito bites, as well as bee and jellyfish stings; this is that, but combined with other good things, like alcohol, and tea tree oil. It smells a lot nicer, and works better too. Plus it's in a small bottle so you can carry it with you.

I've won a prize
Wednesday, 10 August 2016 21:45I just won a prize in a Instructables Contest with my Instructable for chilli pepper infused wodka! Okay, it's only a runner-up prize, and I've won a thermo-insulated cup and a T-shirt... it's still nice, don't you think?
Here's the intro picture I took for the Instructable. It looks kinda shiny, with the bottle and glass mirrored in the surface they're standing on; that surface is actually the stove top. It has a nice white background so it's a good spot for pictures that need to look clean and uncluttered. I added the dark gradients on the bottom and top of the picture myself.

I made a whole liter of this stuff and brought it over when I went to EMFcamp last weekend; it all went, and some people were great fans! It was a great event, by the way, and I had a whale of a time. Hacker camping events are the best.
I've published a new Instructable! Yay. It's about a hazelnut-cocoa spread that's not for the faint of heart. Check it out, if you like that kind of thing.
I made an Instructable
Tuesday, 8 October 2013 11:17A few weeks ago, there was a nice workshop in my local hackerspace: How to make your own sambal. Sambal is a hot pepper based sauce or condiment that's eaten a whole lot in Indonesia, and because of our colonial past, the Indonesian kitchen is popular here. So, many Dutch people appreciate sambal.
The workshop was a lot of fun, I made small amounts of three different kinds of sambal (plain, ginger and curry). I went on to repeat the process at home, using milder peppers this time, which resulted in a more generally usable kind of sambal. I took pictures during the process, and made this Instructable. It's getting a good number of views!
If you like hot peppers and cooking, go check it out. It's easy to make, and fun.

I made a BookCrossing-related Instructable
Friday, 13 July 2012 15:19Here it is.
Instructables is a fun website full of tutorials on how to do almost everything; from cooking to pet care to electronics to gardening. It's mostly focused on creative recycling and modifying things to match your needs. In other words, hacking.
If you're at all interested in making stuff, pretty much any kind of stuff, you might want to check it out.
(Crossposted to the local BookCrossing-comm. Sorry if you're seeing this twice.)
