Music speaks to all
It’s so dear to us
Music makes us think
So mysterious
Music is my Sanctuary, Music is my life
Music is my Sanctuary, Music is my life
I DJ’ed a lot back in my Edinburgh days, from the early 90’s through to the 2000’s. It was a mixture of laid back Sunday nighters in small bars, to Big Beat club nights pulling in up to 400 folk, to huge Edinburgh Film Festival parties. But moving on a decade, and to Orkney, in 2011 I joined Mixcloud. And so began homemade mixes. I’m a film editor so I aim for my mixes to have a narrative. This site will primarily be a home for them. Check out the menu above for all of my homemade mixes.
In May 2020 I joined Mixcloud Live and began Sunday Circle.

It’s a Sunday night vibe playing a mix of soul, jazz, funk, folk, world and anything else I feel like throwing in! As it’s live, it’s freestyle, I never know what I’m going to play before I start, I just begin the spin and away we go.
Having the chat function has meant there’s a real connection with listeners, my Sunday Circlers. What’s blown me away is the broadcast range – from local folk in Stromness and across the islands, to further afield across Scotland, England and Wales. And, as they say, it’s a small world – I have listeners in Israel, New York, Houston and even early risers in Osaka. It’s such a small, huge, beautiful thing. It’s about joining the dots, with the music and the people.
After more than 2 years, 105 shows and over 200 hours of music, I called it a day on Sunday Circle. You can still tune in to the full playlist on Spotify :
So for now you can catch up with my homemade mixes on the usual Mixcloud feed. Follow me on Mixcloud if you want to be kept up to date:
