You may have seen that AO3 recently made it possible to easily embed podfic or vid files. You still have to have them hosted somewhere but in terms of podfic, the bit that interests me, the new code creates a player intended to replace the older flash players, soon to become defunct as I gather flash is being discontinued. The code is <audio src="MP3-URL"></audio>
But it doesn't work for me, and it turns out that's as I host all my art and podfics at Mediafire. I asked the AO3 support team why the player was visible but not playing, and they said: "Thanks for asking about this issue with the audio player. Based on the error reports we've been seeing, it's due to the hosted file being inaccessible. You probably need to enable Cross-Origin Resource Sharing (CORS) on your website. Your web host's documentation or support department should be able to help - it would need to be set to a custom rule to allow archiveofourown.org or to allow "all HTTPS origins".
But I seriously doubt a cloud storage giant like Mediafire would cooperate with something like that, plus I prefer to fly under the radar with them and don't want to call attention to myself as someone using their site for fanworks, some of which are explicit.
So sadly, the new embed coding's a dud, at least for me. Anyone had a better experience? Or know any other way to embed a player that doesn't use flash? It's not a huge issue, as just having a download link for an MP3 file on the podfic post allows pads and smartphones to download and play the file anyway, but that ties up your browser and can be a bit glitchy with the streaming. It'll do, though. On PCs there's no option except to download and play using an audio programme, without some sort of streaming player.
