Frequently asked questions

How do I rotate a photo 90 degrees?

Drop the photo, then click Rotate left or Rotate right. Each click turns the image a quarter turn and the preview updates immediately. Click twice, or use the 180 button, to flip it end over end.

Can I straighten a crooked photo by a few degrees?

Yes. The angle slider covers -180 to 180 in one-degree steps, so a horizon that leans by three degrees can be corrected with a small nudge. The corners are filled rather than cropped.

Why does the image get bigger after rotating?

A rectangle turned at an angle needs a larger bounding box or the corners would be cut off. The output canvas is sized to that bounding box, so the new width and height are larger than the original at any angle that is not a multiple of 90.

Does rotating re-compress the photo?

Saving as JPEG or WebP re-encodes the pixels once. Choose PNG for a lossless file if the image will be edited again afterwards.
