Does it run the JavaScript in my HTML?

The preview renders markup and styles. Treat it as a layout check rather than a full sandbox for scripted behaviour.

Can I preview an email template?

For a rough look, yes. Email clients apply their own quirks, notably Outlook's rendering engine, so a template that looks right here still needs testing in the real clients.

Do external stylesheets load?

Links to remote assets resolve as the browser normally would. Inline your styles if you want the preview to be self-contained.

Is anything sent to a server?

No. The markup is rendered locally, so pasting an internal template does not put it anywhere you would not want it.
