Frequently asked questions

What does the density setting change?

The dot grid spacing. Coarse grids give big, punchy dots that read as a print effect; fine grids approach a normal grayscale image at a distance.

Is this a real halftone screen?

It is the same idea newspapers used: tone is represented by dot size on a regular grid. It is a raster effect rather than a print separation, so it is for looks.

Will it print well?

For a poster or zine, yes, and the coarse settings hold up better than a plain grayscale photo on cheap paper. Preview at final size before committing.

Does it work on any photo?

High contrast subjects work best. A flat, low contrast image turns into an even field of dots with little shape left.
