Delhi rain: 3 dead in Rohini building collapse; waterlogging reported in several areas
The active monsoon has unleashed widespread devastation across India, bringing heavy rainfall, flash floods, landslides and widespread disruption in several states. Maharashtra, Gujarat, Kerala, Delhi and Jammu & Kashmir are among the worst-affected regions, with emergency agencies working round the clock to rescue stranded residents and restore essential services.

One of the most critical situations has emerged in Pimpri Chinchwad, Maharashtra, where a massive mound of legacy waste collapsed onto a three-storey administrative building at a municipal waste-to-energy plant. Rescue teams, supported by the Army, NDRF, police, fire services and medical personnel, are carefully removing debris while pumping fresh air into the collapsed structure to protect those trapped from toxic gases and oxygen depletion. Officials describe the rescue mission as extremely challenging because of the unstable building and the risk of another collapse.

Heavy rainfall has also severely affected Pune, where flooding, landslides, overflowing rivers and dam water discharge have forced hundreds of families to evacuate. In Mumbai, commuters faced delays in local train services and severe traffic congestion due to renewed heavy showers and waterlogging.

Gujarat's Surat witnessed one of its worst flooding episodes after receiving exceptionally heavy rainfall within 24 hours. Thousands of people were rescued from submerged neighbourhoods, while stagnant floodwater continued to disrupt transport, businesses and daily life.

In Kerala, continuous rainfall triggered landslides and prompted authorities to issue weather warnings across several districts. Rescue teams continued searching for missing people in Wayanad, while relief camps were opened for displaced families and educational institutions remained closed in some districts.

Delhi also experienced intense rainfall that flooded roads and slowed traffic movement across the city. The IMD has issued multiple alerts warning of continued heavy rain and thunderstorms.

With weather systems remaining active, authorities across the country are maintaining high alert, strengthening rescue operations and urging residents to avoid flood-prone areas, follow official advisories and stay prepared for further monsoon-related emergencies.
