Dory
A local development runtime for Apple Silicon Macs combines Docker, Kubernetes, Linux VMs and isolated coding agent sandboxes under GPL-3.0.

Dory is a native macOS app for developers who want containers, Linux machines and coding agent environments on their own Mac. It provides a local runtime managed through both a graphical app and a CLI.
- Docker workflows: Use Docker, Compose, BuildKit and Buildx with the included engine, or connect the app to an existing Docker-compatible engine.
- Kubernetes and Linux VMs: Optional components add local k3s with a resource browser, persistent headless machines and Ubuntu, Debian or Kali desktops with separate disks and snapshots.
- Agent sandboxes: Run coding agents in dedicated Linux VMs with non-root commands and explicit limits on files, credentials, resources and lifetime; networking is disabled by default, and additional mounts default to read-only.
- Local MCP access: Let agents inspect runtime state in read-only mode while execution and sandbox changes remain blocked.
- Workload migration: Copy and verify workloads from Docker Desktop, OrbStack, Colima, Rancher Desktop or Podman while preserving the original data.
Dory requires an Apple Silicon Mac running macOS Sonoma or later. It's open source under GPL-3.0, requires no account or cloud control plane, and has no telemetry. Runtime state and workload data stay on your Mac.
Built-in Kubernetes and Linux machines require Dory's own daemon backend. Optional components can be removed without deleting workload data. An idle container engine can sleep, and reclaimable guest memory can return to macOS.
