About the Author

Kayla E. Green is an award-winning author and poet who writes to remind others—and herself—that light always prevails over darkness. When she isn’t writing, reading, or spending time with her family, she loves singing loudly and off-key to KLove Radio and pretending she’s a unicorn. Fittingly, her YA debut fantasy novel is titled The Goodness of Unicorns.

More from Kayla

Have you ever been in the car and heard just the right song at just the right moment? Or heard just the message you needed at a specific point in your life on Sunday morning like the pastor is speaking directly to you?

Throughout crafting the poems that now make-up the contents of Metamorphosis, I realized that my testimony navigating depression and anxiety is incomplete without my faith. It is the love of God that allows transformation. As such, each poem within the collection is paired with a Bible verse. No matter what we are facing in life, we can find strength in our Lord and through His Word.

Visit this slideshow and see what Bible verse awaits you today. Share how the verse resonates with you and/or suggest a worship song that it reminds you of on social media and be sure to tag me (@author.kayla.e.green on Instagram) so I can reply!

Author Interview

Describe your book in five words.

Inspirational, God-honoring, uplifting, and hopeful.

What are your hobbies?

Aside from reading and participating in book club/buddy reads, I enjoy listening to music, painting, and drawing. I also love learning new things and skills, and I am working on learning ASL (American Sign Language). I took an introductory class in college, but my goal is to become fluent.

Do you prefer traditional books, ebooks, or audiobooks?

I can’t choose, truly. I usually have one of each going every week. Audiobooks are wonderful to listen to in the car or while working on housework or walking. Ebooks are great because my ereader is easy to manage and isn’t too much when my wrists and hands are giving me trouble (I have psoriatic arthritis). But there’s something about a physical book, too. I’m so thankful for my local public library as well as bookstores/authors so I can curate a home library, too. A house needs books to truly be home in my book (pun intended) 😆

Do you have a favorite Bible verse, or is there a particular Bible story that really resonates with you?

One verse that I love, and summarizes the overarching theme of Metamorphosis, is “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will” Romans 12:2 (NIV).

If you could meet one author, living or passed, who would it be?

I would meet C.S. Lewis. His ability to craft wonderful fantasy for children that adults can also enjoy and his openness on his Christianity (and the means in which he expressed his understanding of faith and the human experience in both short stories and essays) have been a large influence on me, especially recently. I highly recommend everyone read The Screwtape Letters and Mere Christianity by Lewis. I also recommend The Mythmakers graphic novel biography on Lewis and Tolkien by John Hendrix. All such wonderful, insightful reads!

About the Author

Darlene Corbett has been serving others as a licensed psychotherapist for over thirty years.

With her wealth of experience in human behavior, she decided to write down her thoughts to inspire a larger audience. This set the stage for her book, Stop Depriving The World of You, published by Sound Wisdom in 2018.

She continued writing nonfiction until she heard God whisper again. And his call prompted her to take a risk and dip her toes into fiction. Visible, a women’s fiction about second chances, was published by WordCrafts Press in the spring of 2024, and in August, she won the 2024 Storytrade Book Awards for Christian Fiction in the Contemporary category.

And right now?

Her contemporary romance, Mesmerize, will be published in February of 2026 which has themes of a modern-day, Christian Scheherazade story.

Her writing continues with two romantic suspense novels. Enthralled, which takes place in Mykenos, has been completed but needs editing. A Midnight Call, located in a small fictional town in central Massachusetts, has almost reached the finishing line.

When not writing or seeing clients, Darlene immerses herself in a variety of novels and tries to support other authors of faith.

In addition, she loves animals with dogs being number one. Taking care of her beloved Shih Tzu, Stevie, puts a smile on her face.

Being a life-long learner, she’s attempting a second language and remains a nerd at heart. Staying fit, traveling, and connecting with her inner circle also take priority.

Darlene belongs to many organizations, including the ACFW, FHL-CW, and WFWA.

She lives in Central Massachusetts with Stevie, and remains excited about the next chapter of her life.

More from Darlene

For all my life, I’ve been in love with the oral and written word.

And I imagine the same for you.

How many people do not enjoy reading or hearing a good tale?

And doesn’t it make sense?

Each of us has a story, our own book of life. How it unfold lays between God and us.

Although every novel involves a story, I decided to highlight a therapeutic storyteller.

Why therapeutic?

Because I’m a therapist and have listened to stories throughout my life. Also, I remember the story of Scheherazade, and with faith and modernity, I wove it into my novel. The protagonist spins tales to… Well, you’ll have to read the book to find out.

I hope you become mesmerized by Mesmerize.

Author Interview

When/how did you decide to become a writer?

In 2011, with much fear, I submitted an article to my local, professional newsletter about the creative ways to use hypnosis. After they published it, I became braver and began blogging.

What is your work schedule like when you’re writing?

I see clients on Tuesday and Thursday, so it makes it difficult. I try not to miss a writing sprint on M, W, and F. Also, I try writing on Saturday or Sunday, depending what is going on in my life.

Are you a plotter or a pantser?

Pantser with a tad of plotting. I know the destination, but I make it a fun, exploratory journey on what route to take.

Do you have a favorite or special place to write?

I write down in my office area, with a big window in front of me. The view offers me scampering rabbits and chipmunks, robins, blue jays, and cardinals. Also, deer sometime frolick through my yard. My little Shih Tzu lays in his bed a few feet from me.

Describe your book in five words.

Clean, contemporary romance with a twist.

About the Author

David Reid Brown is a retired Navy Chaplain and currently serves as a high school Government, Bible, and Art teacher at Grace Christian School in Mechanicsville, VA. He has authored nine books: Spirit Soundings: A Chaplain’s Journal of Life at Sea (three volumes), Lost Summer, and Psalms from The Sea (four volumes), and a book of poetry, Sophia’s Songs. These inspirational stories were born out of his global seafaring experiences, spanning twenty-one years of peace, war, and three overseas deployments as well as his service as a Christian educator.

More from David

Did you know? The art on the front cover of my book, OPERATIONS, was designed and created by one of my Ninth Grade Art Students. Yes, it’s true. I recognized that this young artist had the technical skill and artistic flair to create the unique cover art required for this book when he was just in the sixth grade!

FOR OVER TWENTY-ONE YEARS, I have had the distinct privilege of serving thousands of sailors, Marines, and their families across the nation, upon every major ocean, as well as overseas. I am most proud to have shared a common bond of service, sacrifice, and devotion. OPERATIONS is my patriotic tribute to them.

Author Interview

Describe your book in five words.

First, thank you for allowing me to share insights on your blog.

Here are the five words:

Inspirational
Patriotic
Family-oriented
Heart-warming
Devotional

What is your work schedule like when you’re writing?

I am a teacher, and my work schedule is driven by the academic calendar. During the school year, I work between 7:30 am and 3:30 pm, Monday through Friday. This schedule relegates my writing to early mornings and weekends. However, when summer arrives, my writing schedule is unrestricted. Summer is truly the “sweet spot” for my writing.

Are you a plotter or a pantser?

This is an interesting question! I am a combination of both. Writing books always starts with a theme, vision, or burden that I receive from the Lord. It typically comes in the form of an outline, which I diagram or plot out before writing anything. There are times, though, when God places in my heart what I refer to as “fire thoughts”, things that seem random but are too “hot” not to write down in a journal. These thoughts may pertain to what I am already writing or be something completely different for later use. So, I try to remain open to both approaches in writing because that is the way God employs my gift.

Do you have a favorite or special place to write?

My dining room table between 3:30 am and 6:00 am is my favorite time and place to write. Our family used to own a beach house in the Outer Banks of North Carolina, and the dining table there was my favorite spot as well, especially during summer vacations.

Do you have a favorite Bible verse, or is there a particular Bible story that really resonates with you?

I have many favorite Bible verses, but if I had to narrow it down, there would be only two:

Psalm 90:17 – “May the favor of the Lord, our God, rest upon us. To establish the work of our hands for us—yes, establish the work of our hands.”

Ecclesiastes 3:11 – “He has made everything beautiful in its time.”

The former resonates with me because I desire to have the blessing of God over everything that I put my hands to. His favor will ensure that the work will prosper and be blessed.

The latter is a promise about the sovereign purpose and faithfulness of God. Due to the brevity of our lives, we may or may not see “the beautiful thing” he does with any pain, trauma, or wickedness. However, when we do see and recognize it, we should not hesitate to give God praise for it.

Author Interview

When/how did you decide to become a writer?

I’m one of those late bloomers. I always wanted to write a book, but life happens, kids, work, etc. In 2009 I was forced to take a leave of absence due to health issues. I clearly heard the Lord say, “Now.” I’d had an idea rolling around in my head for a book, but hearing God speak made me put my fingers on the keyboard. I now have 17 published books and I’m not done!

What would you say is your interesting writing quirk?

I have to have dead silence when I write. I even turn off our air purifier and dehumidifier. The noise irritates me.

Are you a plotter or a pantser?

Depends. When I’m writing romance or romantic suspense, I have to plot to keep the action moving. How many grenades can I toss at my main characters? That sort of thing. If I’m writing women’s fiction, I let the story carry me. Sometimes I have no idea what’s going to happen next!

Describe your book in five words.

Boy meets girl, love happens

Do you prefer traditional books, ebooks, or audiobooks?

Ebooks. Because of our limited space, I don’t have room to store books. I only carry books on craft to refer to.

If you could meet one author, living or passed, who would it be?

Rosamund Pilcher. She’s passed now, but back in the 70’s my mother and I shared all her books. The writing is certainly dated, but her descriptions make me cry.

What advice would you give to aspiring writers?

Learn the craft, keep writing, keep improving, and don’t give up. You’ll face a lot of rejection but use it as a tool to grow.

A Hundred Magical Reasons Author Interview and GIVEAWAY!

About the Book

Book: A Hundred Magical Reasons

Author: Laura DeNooyer

Genre: Biographical historical fiction, literary fiction, book club fiction

Release Date: January 7, 2025

Most fairy tales have happy endings, but is it too late for this one? After all, Mrs. Charlotte Rose Gordon, the disgruntled town recluse, is eighty-eight and has grown weary of fighting the dragons of her past—including the desire to clear her husband’s name of a 1918 crime.

Dragons of a different kind pursue Carrie Kruisselbrink.

During 1980, the summer of her private rebellion, Carrie defies parental expectations and pursues her café dream. While waiting for funding, she takes a job with Mrs. Gordon.

As Mrs. Gordon unfolds the story of her oppressive childhood and delightful friendship with The Wonderful Wizard of Oz author, L. Frank Baum, Carrie never expects to encounter her own fears and soul-searching.

In this modern-day fairy tale that weaves between 1980 and the early 1900s, Mr. Baum’s influence impacts each woman’s personal quests on a hero’s journey neither anticipates. Can Carrie and Mrs. Gordon find common ground in battling their respective dragons?

About the Author

Laura DeNooyer thrives on creativity and encouraging it in others. A Calvin College graduate, she is a teacher, wife, parent of four adult children, and an award-winning author of heart-warming historical and contemporary fiction. Her novels are perfect for fans of Patti Callahan Henry, Erin Bartels, or Amanda Cox. When she’s not writing, you’ll find her reading, walking, drinking tea with friends, or taking a road trip.

More from Laura

Smitten!

That was me—smitten—after reading a biography about L. Frank Baum, author of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz (1900). Baum was an innovative, larger-than-life personality—no surprise there, given that he created the Land of Oz.

He was also a family man with a keen understanding of children and a high regard for women. (His mother-in-law was a suffragist!) His humor and creativity gave him the capacity to bounce back from failure many times.

Having always wanted to write a novel set in the turn of the century, Baum fit perfectly into my plans.

Fun fact: The Baum family summered at the same lake where our family vacations yearly. Though we were at opposite ends of Lake Macatawa near Holland, Michigan—and opposite ends of the century—I felt a connection.

Unstoppable Imagination meets Doubt & Fear

Imagination plays a huge role in the story. My main character Janie is at odds with her rigid parents who have no use for fiction, fantasy, or fairy tales. She is only allowed to read The New England Primer, The Pilgrim’s Progress, and the Bible. Then eight-year-old Janie meets the inimitable L. Frank Baum who stretches her imagination in every way possible. This is a major tension throughout the story.

This ties to 1980, where my protagonist Carrie wants to run a literary-themed café against her parents’ wishes. They have their own goals for her. As grown-up Janie (now eighty-eight-year-old Mrs. Gordon) unveils her childhood troubles to Carrie, they both make startling discoveries.

Bonded by stories and baking Oz-inspired recipes, Carrie and Mrs. Gordon’s intergenerational friendship gradually grows and deepens—one facing fears about her future, the other living with regrets about her past.

Brains, Heart, & Courage

Whether you’re an Oz fan or not, I believe you’ll enjoy getting to know L. Frank Baum. Besides getting the facts straight, I wanted to create his essence on the page so readers experience what it was like to sit on the Baums’ Macatawa porch with him, whether running a printing press or drinking lemonade.

Baum’s stories are all about stirring the child’s imagination, and that’s a key element of my novel. Since we’re all made in the Creator’s image, everybody is creative in their own way. I hope this story inspires readers to use their own imagination to pursue dreams.

But dreams only grow in the soil of confidence. As Mrs. Gordon challenges Carrie, “Do you want to live by your passions or by your fears?” One of those fears is being yourself vs. wearing a mask.

Join the journey of two women who are hugely impacted by the wisdom, heart, and courage of the creator of Oz.

Author Interview

When/how did you decide to become a writer?

In 2nd grade, my teacher challenged us to write and illustrate our own books. I had no clue what to write about, so I rewrote “The Gingerbread Man.” Instead of chastising me for my lack of originality, Mrs. Haan challenged me to write my own ending to the story. I accepted the challenge. By the time I was done, I decided that writing my own stories was the way to go. I was unstoppable after that.

Now, as an adult, I know writing is more than just telling a tale. Besides being a creative outlet, it’s a way to re-examine life experiences and foster empathy, stretching my limits and my faith. Much like journaling does.

Furthermore, stories are a way to touch others in deep places. Blessing others this way is a huge reward.

In A Hundred Magical Reasons, I explored themes close to my heart: fostering imagination, courage to be yourself, intergenerational friendship, and the role of fathers—making this novel a great book club pick. I hope the story raises thoughtful questions and encourages pondering while also uplifting readers.

Are you a plotter or a pantser?

I used to be very organized and showed up with a plan. Nowadays, I only know the direction the story is headed but am not sure how it will get there. Ideas start percolating when I’m actually sitting down writing a scene. I see connections to other characters and situations that will increase the stakes and further the plot.

I start asking, “What if . . .?” But I also brainstorm, considering which juxtapositions of characters and situations would cause the most tension.

For example, in A Hundred Magical Reasons, I had to consider what could make a good contrast or foil for L. Frank Baum. Enter eight-year-old Janie whose rigid parents have no use for fun, frivolity, fiction, fantasy, or fairy tales. But the inimitable L. Frank Baum knows how to draw out her imagination. This is a major tension throughout the story.

From there I planned basic scenes based on his own family and career timeline and worked the story around those. The details and dialog came as I wrote the scenes.

Most of the time, I start with a premise and a couple of characters. I love the creative process. Sometimes that means putting stories together like a puzzle. Other times it means writing without a clear plan in order to discover a story.

Is there a particular literary period that you’re drawn to (Regency, Victorian, Romantic, Modernism, etc.)? Why?

I’ve always been intrigued by the turn-of-the-century. That era is full of innovations and inventions that changed our way of life. Consider the life of Laura Ingalls Wilder, spanning from 1867 to 1957. We’re all familiar with her prairie and rustic cabin days, but by the end of her life, families had access to light bulbs, electricity, telephones, phonographs, television, movie theaters, automobiles, and airplanes!

My interest in L. Frank Baum’s life dovetailed into the early 1900s when Baum spent summers at Michigan’s Macatawa Resort (1898-1910). In 1900, Baum turned 44 and published The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. His fascination with new inventions and technology is reflected in many of his children’s novels. His creativity bubbled up alongside the innovations of that time.

Describe your book in five words.

Well, this is a challenge! Not knowing if you mean five consecutive words in a phrase or five random words, I’m going to answer this twice.

Imagination. Courage. Transparency. Friendship. Home. (Related to themes)

OR . . . Baum’s significant impact through generations.

Which one of your characters speaks most to your heart? Why?

They all speak to my heart in some way, but probably Mrs. Gordon the most. At age eighty-eight, she has lived most of her life and now faces her regrets. She finally has a voice to share them; her audience is Carrie. What starts as a business arrangement ends in friendship and love.

I value intergenerational friendships, so it grieves me to see older generations forgotten or ignored, no matter the issues. In my childhood, we respected our elders. Yet the older I get, I see less regard for parents and grandparents in our culture. We all have our memories, our stories that make us who we are. We all have value. But, in general, valuing our elders is not reflected in many younger folks’ priorities.

It’s finally Mrs. Gordon’s turn to speak, to be heard, to share her heart, to impart wisdom, to shine. And to “redeem the time the locusts ate” from her life.

Blaze of Honor Author Interview and GIVEAWAY!

About the Book

Book: BLAZE OF HONOR

Author: D.M. Griffin

Genre: Biblical Fiction

Release Date: May 12, 2026

A BLAZE OF HONOR WOULD EITHER CONSUME HIM OR ILLUMINATE THE PATH TO LOVE!

Joram couldn’t pinpoint the burning conviction in his heart, the reason honoring his father felt like the only path to a life that pleased God. He remembered the unheard prayers of a five-year-old whose mother betrayed the sanctity of family and knew well the bitterness in his father’s heart. Whatever the reason, Joram, a man of few words, lived an obedient life. He adopted his father’s wishes and desires as if they were born from his own heart, and with that came his father’s simmering bitterness and ingrained distrust of women.

Driven by a desire for Joram to achieve more than a shepherd’s humble existence, his father pressured him to excel academically, tirelessly seeking the approval of powerful figures. Joram’s life took a dramatic turn when he captured the attention of Parthia’s notorious bandit leaders.

Caught in a dizzying storm of politics and family vendettas, Joram reluctantly accepts a fake marriage, meant to bring a young woman to Jerusalem so she could marry another man. Knowing how his father felt about women, a view he adopted as his own, Joram wasn’t prepared for the transformation that would take place once he began playing the role of a husband for all the wrong reasons.

The treacherous journey, marked by near-death experiences, culminated with them arriving in Jerusalem amidst the vibrant Feast of Weeks. With his knowledge of God ringing hollow as a mere religious duty, Joram divorced his wife and surrendered her to another man, determined to honor his word. But when he stumbles upon the truth and feels the burning intensity of the Holy Spirit descend in a blaze of honor that illuminates far more than he could have ever imagined, Joram has to decide if he is willing to walk the path of love.

About the Author

D.M. (Demi) Griffin is the author of several novels and has won multiple literary awards. Her novels in The Encounter Series won various Independent Author awards in the category of Religious Fiction.

She writes Christian Fantasy, Biblical, and Historical Fiction. She currently resides in Northern California with her husband of over thirty years. She truly believes that a book that sits on a shelf unread is like a planted seed that never blossoms. Nothing delights her more than sharing a story.

More from D.M.

My inspiration for writing Blaze of Honor came from a simple lyric in a song. “Be careful, little eyes, what you see.” I had the idea of writing the Spirit Ignited Series rattling around in my head for five years. During my regular Bible reading plan, inspiration sucked me into the scene in Acts 2 when Peter preaches to a crowd on the day of Pentecost. I found myself wondering about the people described as coming from all over the empire. I wondered what had brought them there, and what they had heard. How could I not be fascinated when the church grew exponentially that day? So, the idea for Spirit Ignited grew. I wanted to write four novels about four men who had been in the crowd that day.

As excited as I was to begin writing those stories, other books crept into the queue before I fully developed the characters for Spirit Ignited. I was excited when the first ideas came back to me after five long years of waiting for these men to speak up and inspire me. What was even more challenging was that the stories were begging to be written in first-person from a single perspective. That was a daunting task since I had only written dual-perspective stories up until that point. And, truth be told, first-person isn’t my favorite.

But I obliged and found myself completely captivated by these men. Surprisingly enough, I did not write Blaze of Honor first. Though it is the first to be released in the series, it was the third book I wrote in the Spirit Ignited series.

After hearing the song lyric, I started to wonder about how parents, most specifically troubled marriages, affected children. Joram, a shy character, finally found his voice in my head, and together, we explored a life of unintended scars and how they shape a boy as he becomes a man.

The story’s themes of redemption, forgiveness, and grace underscore the main takeaway: honoring God through loving others. I yearn for readers to grasp this central truth, to feel the depth in the main character’s plight. The narrative delves into the heart of devotion, exploring how easily the concept of honoring God can become contorted in the labyrinth of the mind. After completing the first draft, the realization that this story, with its raw vulnerability, could only be told in the intimate voice of the first person hit me.

I truly hope readers will get as much out of it as I did when I wrote it. Stories that transform as well as entertain are my favorite kind of stories.

Author Interview

Which author has most influenced your own writing?

Since I love to read, a lot of authors influence my writing. Some of my most recent favorites in the Biblical Fiction genre include April Gardner and Connilyn Cossette. In the fantasy genre, I am inspired by Paige Reed and J.J. Fischer. In historical romance, I like Karen Witemeyer and Gabrielle Meyer. I enjoy stories that grab with eloquent prose and descriptive scenes. I hope those traits are evident in my writing as well.

Do you ever hide things in your stories for readers to find?

Yes, I definitely hide things in my stories. Mostly, it will be a reference to something in an older series, or a cameo appearance by a character from another series. Of course, I keep it within the genre since I write in multiple genres. My Biblical Fiction characters don’t flip over into my fantasy worlds because that would just be weird!

What are your hobbies?

My hobbies, other than reading and writing, of course, include taking walks, exercising, and drawing. I used to crochet prayer shawls, but haven’t done that in a while since my fingers are tired from typing all day. I also spend a lot of time creating social media content to support other authors in their writing journeys.

Do you have a favorite Bible verse, or is there a particular Bible story that really resonates with you?

One of my favorite Bible verses is Galatians 5:25. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. I use it as an anchor verse for all my writing. I want to create clean, wholesome fiction that upholds the standards of Scripture and honors God. I believe giving God access to the imagination through wise choices in reading and watching shows keeps us in step with the Spirit.

What advice would you give to aspiring writers?

I would tell aspiring writers not to give up. Push through the quitting points. Keep at it with daily discipline that doesn’t include over-analyzing. Don’t let your own self-criticism halt your work in progress. You can’t edit what hasn’t been written.

About the Book

Book: Frogman Puck Origins: The Rising Tides

Author: Joel Chanaca

Genre: Christian Sci-Fi / Action & Adventure (Teen & Young Adult)

Release Date: September, 2025

Frogman Puck Origins: The Rising Tides

The Legends Awaken: A Hero’s Dream Quest

Embark on an exhilarating journey beneath the waves—where dreams awaken, faith is tested, and a new kind of hero begins to rise.

Frogman Puck Origins introduces readers to Puck, an ordinary boy with an extraordinary dream: to explore the hidden world beneath the surface. What begins as curiosity about mysterious scuba gear in a neighbor’s shed becomes a life-changing adventure—one that carries him from the dreamlike stillness of lily pad ponds into the awe-inspiring reality of deep underwater exploration.

As Puck learns to scuba dive, he uncovers hidden strengths, long-buried secrets, and a mission far greater than he ever imagined. With each descent, the boundary between dream and destiny blurs, drawing him into a world of courage, stewardship, teamwork, and biblical truth.

Told through a unique blend of immersive prose and cinematic illustrations, the story visually mirrors Puck’s growth—shifting from the hazy wonder of childhood imagination to vivid, hyper-realistic underwater missions that place readers right beside him.

Perfect for fans of discovery, mystery, faith-based adventure, and clean action storytelling, Frogman Puck Origins: The Rising Tides is the beginning of an illustrated hero’s journey where imagination meets purpose—and the depths hold more than secrets.

More from Joel

When I set out to write Frogman Puck Origins, I wanted to bring something genuinely new to readers, both those who read constantly and those who sometimes struggle to stay engaged. I envisioned an all-new, fully illustrated novel featuring clean, epic superheroes, told in a way that feels fresh, immersive, and meaningful.
Most superhero stories begin with accidents, mistakes, or powers gained by touching a mysterious artifact. In the world of Frogman Puck, the heroes’ origins are different. Their abilities are forged through purpose, hard work, teamwork, faith, and ingenious design. The story begins with the roots of child-like memories and grows into something much larger, showing how character is built long before power is ever used.
At its heart, Frogman Puck Origins is designed to do two things at once. It invites older readers back to the wonder, curiosity, and imagination of their youth, while encouraging younger readers to dream big, work hard, and plant good seeds that will grow into strong character. It is a story about becoming, not just becoming powerful, but becoming grounded, courageous, and faithful.
The series taps into riddles, adventure, super abilities, and deep friendships, all presented in a format unlike anything else currently on the market. Readers can expect wall-crawling, SCUBA diving, flying, underwater tunnels, octopods, secret labs, personally designed base headquarters, and fierce battles between darkness and light. Every element is layered to reward curiosity and keep pages turning.
Frogman Puck Origins is only the beginning. As the series continues, the world expands, the stakes rise, and the heroes are tested in ways that challenge not only their strength but their values and faith. It is a story built to entertain, inspire, and stay with readers long after the final page.

The Frogman Puck Series is a cinematic, faith-based adventure that grows in depth and intensity with each installment. Origins begins as a dream-driven journey into underwater exploration, where curiosity, mentorship, and imagination awaken a young hero’s calling. Resurgent accelerates into a full-scale action narrative, introducing advanced symbiotic technology, global stakes, and a coordinated enemy operating in the shadows. Reckoning brings the story to its most complex and consequential phase, revealing hidden systems beneath the surface of the world itself and challenging the heroes to confront truth, deception, and sacrifice on a global scale. Across all three books, the series blends illustrated storytelling, clean action, and biblical themes to explore stewardship, courage, faith, and what it means to answer a call—one step, one mission, and one choice at a time.

God Bless, Joel Chanaca

Author Interview

When and how did you decide to become a writer?

I did not grow up planning to be a writer.

My father actually published a children’s story during the pandemic while caring for my ninety-three-year-old grandmother. He was quarantined at home and kept asking for more books to read and write. Watching him create during that season planted something in me.

At the same time, my parents challenged me to try writing fiction. I had always been active. I was diving, surfing, training, and exploring outdoors. I was a reluctant reader who preferred action, visuals, and momentum. But I began to realize there was a gap in Christian action-adventure for families who wanted something clean, faith-centered, and cinematic.

That is when Frogman Puck Origins began to take shape.

I saw a need for Christian illustrated novels that could engage adventurous kids, especially those who struggle to sit still, while still anchoring them in Biblical worldview fiction. I wanted to build stories families could trust. Stories that modeled courage, discipline, leadership, teamwork, and faith under pressure.

It was not about becoming an author. It was about answering a need.

Describe your book in five words.

Faith forged an underwater epic adventure.

That captures the heart of Frogman Puck. It is a Christian action-adventure rooted in design, discipline, and purpose. It carries faith-based sci-fi elements, underwater exploration, strong leadership, humor, and family values, but everything is anchored in truth.

Do you ever hide things in your stories for readers to find?

Yes. Absolutely.

There are subtle and sometimes bold elements layered throughout the series. Some are visual details in the illustrated scenes. Some are symbolic names. Some are structural parallels drawn from Scripture. Others are thematic threads that reward readers who slow down and look deeper.

Sometimes it may take reading the Bible, researching a passage, or revisiting a chapter more than once to notice what is there. That is intentional.

You never know what lies beneath the surface until you dive in.

That concept mirrors both SCUBA diving and spiritual growth. On the surface, it is a clean teen fiction adventure. Beneath it, there are layers of meaning about creation, responsibility, sacrifice, and redemption.

I want readers to enjoy the action. But I also want them to discover the truth for themselves.

What are your hobbies?

Much of what I enjoy naturally flows into the books.

I serve as a game warden. Outside of writing, I enjoy SCUBA diving, boating, fishing, exploring swamps and coastal waterways, aviation training, and studying design in creation. I have trained in Christian martial arts and have always been drawn to disciplined physical activity.

Those experiences shape the realism in Frogman Puck Origins, Frogman Puck: Resurgent, and the developing Frogman Puck: Reckoning.

I believe stories should feel lived in. When underwater missions, aviation principles, or conservation themes appear in the series, they are grounded in experience. That authenticity strengthens this Christian action-adventure world and helps it resonate with both teenage boys and girls, as well as parents reading alongside them.

Do you have a favorite Bible verse, or is there a particular Bible story that really resonates with you?

Choosing one is difficult.

“It is finished” gives me chills every time. Those words carry the weight of redemption, sacrifice, and completion. Everything in history pivots on that moment.

Genesis also deeply shapes me. “In the beginning God created.” That declaration of intentional design forms the backbone of the Frogman Puck universe. We are not accidents. We are created with purpose.

The story of Job humbles me. Jonah and the great fish challenge me. Jonah did not want to do what God asked of him. Later, Christ referenced those three days as a sign. Then in the garden, Jesus prayed, “If it is possible, take this cup from me. Yet not my will, but Your will be done.” He did what was necessary, even when it meant bearing the full weight of our transgressions.

Those moments shape how I understand obedience, sacrifice, and leadership.

Even passages describing the flood, the Nephilim, Behemoth, and Leviathan stir my imagination. God speaks of creatures that people could see and observe. Today, we uncover fossils buried under layers of earth that echo descriptions in Scripture. Creation itself testifies to design and power.

Those themes fuel the epic scale found in this faith-based sci-fi adventure series. But they also remind me that truth is not fantasy. It is foundational.

I wrote Hadley the Hippo is What She Eats to provide a fun story to engage small learners. Through the hippo’s journey through the jungle where her color changes based on what she eats, pre-K and primary students can learn about both fruits and colors. But, what’s more, the back of the book contains a note to parents/teachers with activities to discuss the importance of consumption—what we listen to on the radio, watch on TV and online, and read impacts our minds and hearts. Approaching this lesson in an age-appropriate way is important for providing a foundational framework for discernment later in life.

As a former elementary school librarian and classroom teacher turned full-time mother, I know firsthand how play and learning go hand in hand. This principle applies to foundational skills for understanding biblical teachings, character development, math, literacy, and, well, a lot of things! Playing games with your learners can help reinforce that learning is fun–not only is there a game involved, but your learner will get to spend time with YOU!

As a part of the book tour, I’m so excited to share 3 learning games with you! These games are designed with minimal materials but maximum fun. PLUS, they can be modified for various age groups. Find these 3 learning games to play with littles at home here in this online slideshow:

Author Interview

Describe your book in five words.

We are what we eat.

What are your hobbies?

I love reading, going to the library with my daughter, singing loudly (and most likely off-key) to KLove Radio, recognizing people in shows my husband watches from Law and Order episodes, and talking to friends and family on the phone… Does enjoying actually talking on the phone over text messaging mean I’m old?

Do you prefer traditional books, ebooks, or audiobooks?

I usually have at least one of each format going at one time. However, since becoming a mom, audiobooks are how I do most of my reading!

Are you a plotter or a pantser?

I would say I am a hybrid of a plotter and pantser. The more I write, the more I rely on outlining before drafting. However, I have found my characters often like to make things difficult by changing the outline without consulting with me first!

What is your favorite book?

There are so many wonderful picture books! Some of my favorites are Goodnight Moon, Barnyard Dance, Brown Bear, Brown Bear, Guess How Much God Loves You, I Know The Plans, and You’re My Little Cuddlebug.

Sixteen-year-old Sam Keller has lived in foster homes and group homes most of his life and has long ago given up on the dream of a stable, forever family. Adults have always let him down, and so has God, and he has no use for either.

John and Abbie Grayson are a respected, successful couple in their fifties with two grown children. About the Author

Kimberly Banet received her bachelor’s degree from Indiana University. She started writing in 2020. Her debut novel, Just Another Home, was a 2023 ACFW Genesis Finalist.

Kimberly was married to the love of her life, Jeff, from 1988 until his passing in December, 2024. Together they raised two children, Nicole and Brandon.

Kimberly lives in beautiful Starlight, Indiana, with her two fur babies, Daisy and Winnie.

More from Kimberly

My debut novel, Just Another Home, was released in 2024. It’s about a teen in the foster care system, Sam, who is placed with a couple in their fifties, John and Abbie. Something most people don’t know about Just Another Home is that the setting of the story, Franklin, Tennessee, was not just some random town I chose for the backdrop of Sam’s story. Franklin is a place I’ve visited many times and is near and dear to my heart.

In 2015, our daughter and son-in-law moved to Franklin, a little over three hours from our home in Indiana where my husband and I have lived all our lives. We visited frequently. We loved the small-town, rural feel of Franklin, with its rolling fields and farms and the scenic beauty of the nearby Natchez Trace Parkway. It also satisfied everything we wanted in a small city with its unique shops, boutiques and locally-owned restaurants on Main Street and nearby Cool Springs.

My favorite things about Franklin, though, were the great family weekends we spent there. The memories of one weekend in particular always makes me smile. We attended the Dickens of a Christmas Festival on the square in downtown Franklin. It was just one of the many festivals they have there, but the one I love the most.

It was a blustery, cold day for Middle Tennessee. The high was only 30 degrees and snow flurries were flying. With coffee in hand, we braved the downtown streets and met all our favorite Dickens characters—Ebenezer Scrooge, Jacob Marley, and Tiny Tim, among others. There were vendor booths, and a giant, beautifully lit Christmas tree in the square. It was a beautiful, Christmas-like day with our whole family together in the same place at the same time. When we got too cold to walk anymore, we ducked into a pizzeria to have lunch and warm up. Then we finished the day at our favorite local bookstore there, Landmark. This mother’s heart was full.

Does all of this sound familiar? If you’ve read Just Another Home, it does, because this exact story is played out as Sam attends the Dickens Festival with his foster family. It’s the first time he is genuinely happy since he can remember. He can enjoy the day with them without having to fight for survival or worry about what tomorrow brings. For once he is free and his heart is not troubled.

Kind of like this momma’s heart, having her whole family in the same place at the same time.

Author Interview

What would you say is your interesting writing quirk?

Maybe not really a quirk, but when I started writing my debut novel, I didn’t have a working computer. Our laptop broke. It was 2020 and I was laid off due to covid and didn’t want to spend extra money on a new laptop, so I wrote the first 50,000 words of Just Another Home on my cell phone. I don’t recommend writing this way lol.

Are you a plotter or a pantser?

I’m mostly a pantser. I have ideas swirling in my head, but the story mostly comes together as I’m writing.

Which one of your characters speaks most to your heart?

Most people assume it’s the mother, Abbie. But it’s actually the boy, Sam. Why? SPOILER ALERT: During the course of three novels, I have put poor Sam through so much. But even through the hardest times, he perseveres, finds his faith, and continues to push forward and strengthen family bonds, even with family members who have hurt him.

Do you have a favorite Bible verse, or is there a particular Bible story that really resonates with you?

My favorite Bible story is in John 21. After Peter and some of the disciples fished, they ate breakfast with Jesus.  When they finished eating, Jesus asked Peter, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” Jesus asked him this three times, and when Peter replied yes each time, Jesus replied, “Feed my sheep.” Peter was hurt that Jesus asked him this three times, but it was symbolic of the three times Peter denied Jesus before He was crucified. If Jesus can forgive Peter for his denial and make him leader of the early church, He can still restore us and use us even if we’ve been through periods of unbelief or denial.

What advice would you give to aspiring writers?

Read in the genre you wish to write, read books on the writing craft, and find critique partners or enter contests for feedback. Most of all, don’t ever give up. My first book was published when I was 58 years old, and I just signed a contract for my 4th. You’re never too old!
