Prytanée, Levasseur-Dangeville Organ (1640, 1772) The organ case was made in 1638 by Pierre Frileux and Pierre Cornet. In 1640, Ambroise Levasseur was commissioned to build an organ to occupy that lavishly decorated case. In addition to his own work, he used some preexisting ranks and organ parts of unknown origin. The exact stop list of the Levasseur organ is unknown.Jean Dangeville arrived in December 1772 and lived in the college for six months while working on the organ. He added a second Trompette to the manual and added the echo division among other work. As the result, the instrument then had 30 stops on 4 manuals and pedal.During 19th century, the instrument underwent various alterations. The complete restoration of the instrument finally occured in 1992-1996. Organbuilders Benoist and Sarelot scrupulously returned the instrument into its baroque state. About 1/3 of the pipes are original, dating from the 17th century.

Prytanée, 1640/1772 [Hauptwerk]

The two Spanish instruments presented in this sample set are part of the collection of Francis Chapelet at Montpon-Ménestérol. Both organs are placed in the Auditorium, which Chapelet built in the garden of his house.The organ with the green paint comes from the former monastery of Mondoñedo in Galicia. It was built by an anonymous organ builder at the end of 17th century. It has been restored by Pierre Chéron in 1977. All the stops of the single manual are divided between middle c/c#. The pedal is permanently coupled to the lowest octave of the manual. The instrument has a short octave, which was made chromatic in the sample set. The Hauptwerk software is able to emulate the short octave, if desired.The instrument with the brown facade was saved by Francis Chapelet from a ruinous church in Castilia. Chapelet bought the organ, and one week after it was moved out, the church's vault collapsed. It was an empty organ case—only the front pipes were preserved and one of the windchests. The front carving bears the date 1736. Gerhard Grenzing restored the instrument in 1978 and enlarged it to allow for a wider repertoire. The organ has two manuals with a chromatic compass, and a full pedal of 30 keys.

Chapelet Spanish Collection, 18th c. [Hauptwerk]

Rotterdam - Laurenskerk, Transeptorgel, Marcussen & Son, 1959 The smaller and the older brother of the main rear gallery organ (available for Hauptwerk as well) is located in the Transept of the same St. Laurentis church in Rotterdam (Netherlands) and it is a top example of the European organbuilding of the mid twentieth century, in the years following the 2nd World War. Originally, the case belonged to a Henrick Niehoff organ (1539-1540), but that instrument was out of use for a long time. The Marcussen organbuilding company filled this case with a 3 manual instrument. The main organ case houses a Hoofdwerk and a Pedaal and a tiny Borstwerk underneath. A smaller Rugwerk case was added to the balustrade of the balcony. The lowest octave of the Spitsgedekt 16' is located in a small room behind the organ. The organ has 31 speaking stops, divided into four divisions: Rugwerk, Hoofdwerk, Borstwerk and Pedaal. It is the last work of Sybrand Zachariassen, the leader of the Marcussen company at that time, and it is usually praised as his greatest work. The special feature of the instrument is the horizontal Regaal 16' sticking out of the organ case under the door enclosing the Borstwerk. The door can be opened or closed by a pedal, adding a "swell" effect to the Borstwerk.
