What is your novel about?

It’s a collection of five short love stories, each one built on a different trope; knight and princess, witch and assassin, jester and noblewoman… you name it. But here’s the twist: they’re all narrated by Cupid himself.

He guides you through every tale, sharp-tongued and mischievous, until the very last story, when the spotlight turns on him, and suddenly the god of love has to face his own.

What inspired you to write your book?

Love stories have always fascinated me especially the messy ones, the tragic ones, the ones that refuse to fit into the perfect fairytale mould (you could probably figure also out that shrek was my favourite movie growing up). I wanted to play with different tropes we all know and love… but told through the voice of someone who sees every kind of love. Who better than Cupid?

Which character do you secretly love the most?

Accepted Answer

That’s like asking a parent to choose a favourite child. (But between us: the knight. He broods beautifully.)

Do all the stories connect, or can they stand alone?

Accepted Answer

Each story has its own arc, its own lovers, its own heartbreaks. But read them all, and you’ll start to notice threads weaving them together and little easter eggs you would have overseen if you weren't paying attention. Threads that tug tighter when Cupid finally steps into the spotlight.

How long did it take you to write?

Accepted Answer

The idea first came to me in 2021, but I didn’t actually start writing until about two years ago. About a year and a half ago, I wrote about half, but ended up deleting my entire draft (I’m a terrible perfectionist) and I hated every word. But I started again, and this time I kept going. It took me roughly 450 days of writing (and rewriting, and deleting, and rewriting again) to finally finish the draft you see now.

If Cupid could speak directly to the reader, what would he say?

Oh, so you’ve decided to pick up a book about love? Brave of you. Let me warn you though. Love isn’t all roses and poetry. It’s messy, inconvenient, and occasionally tragic. But it’s also the only thing worth ruining yourself for. So go on, turn the page. Just don’t say I didn’t warn you.

If you could be a character who would you be?

I think I’d be the princess who falls in love with her knight. I like to think I’m easygoing (most of the time), but when it comes to the things I love, I fight fiercely. There’s something delicious about being underestimated; soft enough to be charming yet strong enough to be resilient when it matters.
