Email your MP in NSW | Enable victim-survivors to pre-record their testimony
Too many victim-survivors in New South Wales are forced to recount some of the most painful moments of their lives within a public courtroom, sometimes in front of the person who harmed them. This process is completely out of touch with the mounting evidence that shows that for many victim-survivors a better option is to pre-record their testimony. This means they can share their story in a private, secure setting, away from the intimidating atmosphere of the courtroom. Can you join me in emailing your NSW representative asking them to amend legislation to enable better access to pre-recorded testimony?

The South Australian Royal Commission into Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence has released its findings - and they are damning. Right now, victim-survivors across South Australia are left to endure agonising delays, forced to travel very long distances to access care after reporting sexual assault, including access to forensic medical examinations. These examinations collect evidence, support the victim-survivor’s account of what has taken place, and can help identify the offender. The Commission has made several practical and important recommendations for how to ensure faster access to this care. Members of the SA Government will be paying close attention right now to what they’re hearing from their communities about this report. Can you email your SA representative and make sure they act to ensure faster support for victim-survivors of sexual assault?

The path to justice shouldn’t lead to further harm. For victim-survivors of sexual assault, however, seeking recourse through the criminal legal system often means being resubjected to denial of agency and control.
