What is Common Thread?

Common Thread is a national team that connects people to movements and unites those movements to build real power. We work with diverse groups, learn their needs, and share ideas, tools, and strategies they can adapt to fit their communities. From small town volunteers to large national coalitions, we help local groups plug into bigger campaigns, develop new community systems, and exchange support. We value interdependence without sacrificing individual independence. Together, we strengthen movements by taking action steps side by side.

Currently, we partner with The Sovereign Sanctuary, Make Media Matter, Money Out Of Politics, Fight Against Fascism, BlackoutTheSystem, The Take It Back Movement, & we're constantly growing. We aim to create a network with a wide range of justice-driven organizations, local groups, and national movements focused developing grassroots organizers, activist collectives, and independent creators.

Do groups have to follow your advice?

No. We offer suggestions and ideas, but groups decide what works best for them. We respect each group’s independence and style.

How are you different than other movement hubs?

Unlike some hubs that try to control or direct groups, we act as advisors and connectors. We share strategies but don’t force anyone to follow them, helping maintain each group’s independence while building collective power.

We don’t take on volunteers directly within Common Thread because our main goal is to help you find the group or movement that best matches your passions and dreams. Instead of joining us, we connect you with organizations where your skills and energy can have the biggest impact.
