Operated by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, this helpline is available 24/7/365 to provide crisis counseling at no cost for people experiencing emotional distress related to any natural or human-caused disaster (including mass shootings).

Call or text 988 to connect with a crisis counselor. The 988 Lifeline is a national network of local crisis centers that provides free and confidential emotional support to people in suicidal crisis or emotional distress 24/7/365 in the United States.

We’ve pulled together a list of therapists on Zencare who are eager to help and are offering pro bono (free) or reduced rate sessions to those affected by events at Brown University.

[We have received reports not recommending to use Counslr, the mental health app, as some have indicated the app does not provide proper service or counseling support. However, it is still listed as a resource if people need.] Our hearts are with the Brown University community following the recent tragic shooting. In response, to help support Brown students, Counslr is donating unlimited mental health support via live texting sessions with licensed counselors who are available 24/7. This will be available at no cost to every Brown student until May 31, 2026. Support is private, discreet, and available anytime, day or night. Getting started is easy: students simply download the Counslr app, select "Brown University" as the organization they belong to, and then sign up using their @brown.edu email address.
