WhAM: the Whale Acoustics Model with Orr Paradise
Join Orr Paradise as he introduces Project CETI’s WhAM , a pioneering acoustic model advancing the study of sperm whale communication. This lecture explores a transformer-based audio-to-audio system capable of synthesizing and analyzing sperm whale codas—the distinctive click patterns whales use

2026 Forum | Sun Valley Forum
Across four days at the historic Sun Valley Resort, the Forum unites storytellers, scientists, investors, Indigenous leaders, policy shapers, philanthropists, and youth advocates to explore humanity’s most urgent frontiers. Here, we reclaim the climate narrative for a fractured world, showing how nature’s intelligence supplies the solutions for people, communities and the planet.

TED Talk
Animals are communicating -- but what are they saying? And can we talk back? Marine biologist David Gruber introduces Project CETI: a team of scientists, linguists and AI specialists hoping to decode sperm whale language. Using noninvasive robots and a machine-learning algorithm to collect and analyze millions of sperm whale vocalizations known as coda, the team aims to demystify the communication structures and dialects of these majestic creatures -- and possibly even crack the interspecies communication code. (This ambitious plan is a part of the Audacious Project, TED's initiative to inspire and fund global change.)
