A Village Green (Commons Act) application is a legal process under the Commons Act 2006 that allows local people to register land as a town or village green. To succeed, applicants must show that the land has been used “as of right” (without force, secrecy, or permission) for lawful sports and pastimes by a significant number of local inhabitants for at least 20 years. If registered, the land gains strong legal protection, preventing development and safeguarding it for community use.
