A wadi is a native ecosystem rich in biodiversity, vital to arid and semi-arid regions. It helps recharge underground aquifers and supports both wildlife and human communities. However, wadis are highly sensitive to climate change, with rising temperatures and shifting rainfall patterns threatening their delicate balance. Wadi’s work centers on restoring these ecosystems and engaging local communities who have long lived in harmony with them. Starting in 2016 with a nursery in Sabha, Al-Mafraq, Wadi became a registered NGO in 2018. Today, it manages five native-plant nurseries across Jordan and restores diverse ecosystems rangelands, forests, and wadis empowering communities to lead conservation efforts and draw on their deep knowledge of the land.
