Can Paternal Metformin Use Cause Birth Defects?

Peter Attia on a recent study that shows paternal metformin usage may cause birth defects:

Adult males diagnosed with type 2 diabetes keep getting younger and younger which leads to more and more males reproducing while on metformin. To me this stresses two things - we really don't know the long-term effects of many of the prescription drugs being handed out like candy. Second and more importantly it stresses the need for our healthcare industry and culture at large to highlight proper diet and exercise.
