Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

Do you think Jeff Fisher is really rooting for the Rams in the Super Bowl? I'm guessing he's secretly rooting for the Patriots but would never publicly say so... Belichick the great (and this was from when he was going for 5 Super Bowls - now he's going for his 6th!)... Used Sushi would be a good name for a band... Ever see those World's Strongest Man competitions where they have huge men running 100-yard dashes carrying hundreds of pounds? Wouldn't one of those guys make a good short yardage running back in the NFL? Assuming they could pass the steroids drug testing (which granted is a big assumption)... Cool - Neil Gaiman reading Edgar Allan Poe's The Raven... Entropy and the Arrow of Time are two iron laws of physics and Tom Brady is proving to be the exception that proves the rule for both of them... You know those black lights that show how disgusting a hotel room could be when it comes to human "fluids"? Imagine back in the day if you could have ran a black light over the tux you rented for the prom or your wedding...

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

I've long said that Condoleezza Rice would make an excellent NFL Commissioner (a big improvement on joke currently holding the office)... The Kansas City Chiefs last night (as played by Glenn Close)... One of the biggest political / football "what ifs" of history is if there was no World War II there was a good chance that Dwight Eisenhower would have been made the head football coach at West Point... An update on NASA's Mars InSight lander (which is due to land on the red planet next week)... I wonder if Jeff Fisher sat at home last night thinking to himself, "There's no way one of my defenses would give up that many points!"... True US history - in the early 1900's there was a prostitute in Chicago named Suzy Poon Tang. She was so good in bed that her name became slang for - well you know... "We live two lives. The second one begins when we realize we only have one life to live." - Steven Sotloff...

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

The simple solution to the snowflakes at Holy Cross having an issue with the Crusader mascot is to hold an Internet poll for a replacement. They totally deserve Jesuit McJesuitface...  Heh heh... In the articles following the death of Stephen Hawking it was noted by many that in 1979 he was made the Lucasian Professor of Mathematics at Cambridge and that the post was once held by Sir Isaac Newton. Almost no one noted that post was also held by Paul Dirac, Nobel Prize winner, one of the founders of quantum mechanics and one of the most under-appreciated geniuses of the 20th century... Heh heh... Great advice: "Stay away from negative people. They have a problem for every solution." - Albert Einstein... On social media, privacy is no longer a personal choice...Still can't believe Jeff Fisher hasn't gotten another NFL head coaching job yet...

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

I'm pissed off about the new Tax Bill. Pissed off that no Senator or Congressman took the opportunity to slip in language to end Daylight Savings when they had the opportunity. Pissed off!... Heh heh... FACT - none of the six QB's selected to the Pro Bowl defeated Blake Bortles this season. Also FACT - Donald Trump has not been defeated in the Octogon by any other President living or dead... I don't expect Meryl Streep to answer this question. But it's a very valid question especially given her relationship with Harvey Weinstein... Funny how you don't hear about closing Guantanamo Bay as a campaign issue any more isn't it?... Good argument for Mickey Loomis as NFL Executive of the Year. Although Les Snead hired Sean McVay as head coach of the Rams so there's that... Jeff Fisher is said to be "eyeing" several NFL coaching jobs. On a related note - I'm "eyeing" several Victoria Secrets models. The mutual interest in both cases should be similar...

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

Watched UFC 200 last night. What a waste of time. Pretty weak card. I tapped out after the first round of the Daniel Cormier fight to go listen to a band instead... Heh heh - I should have posted this yesterday... Just to get this out there and get ahead of the story - I have no idea how those illegal substances got into my system. It might have been those supplements...  Heh heh... The NBA's biggest nightmare has to be a PED that makes you grow taller... So very sad... Word is that Kevin Durant was coming to the Celtics until Curt Schilling got involved... Heh heh... How would history have been different if England came in on the side of the South during the Civil War with the caveat that the Southern States return to being part of Great Britain... How awesome is this!...

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

Did Gus Johnson say something about Phil Simms' kid? That's the only thing that makes sense for CBS Sports not bringing him back... What bothered you more - learning there was no Easter Bunny or learning that Eric Estrada's first name is actually Henry?... I checked my American College Dictionary and "physicality" is not a word. I wish basketball announcers would stop using it... Heh heh - it's funny because I know a guy who did the same thing in college... Illinois University must be really proud of Rashard Mendenhall highlighting the education he received during his four years there... Beer is an excellent source of selenium (SE) and chromium (CR). The things you learn when you sit next to a chemist at a bar... Teddy Bruschi and Jeff Fisher to scale Mount Kilimanjaro - very Heminwayesque.

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

What happens when a Black Bear runs into a cow? (Amazing pictures)... I'm looking forward to the Charlie Sheen anti-drug public service announcements. You know they are only a few weeks away from being made... The Men's and Women's winners at the Australian Open each get $2.2 million mean while Erik Seidel just got $2.5 mil for one day's work playing poker at the $250,000 buy in at the Aussie Millions... Mike Lombardi has a good look at why Jeff Fisher's time had come in Tennessee. I especially agree with this quote: "[Vince] Young's lack of leadership, work ethic and commitment to the team is why he is not coming back, not Fisher"... Tweet of the Day - @pourmecoffee: Mubarak on Internet connectivity: Probably your router; try turning it off and back on again... Wade Boggs for his career hit .369 at Fenway and just .307 on road yet people always point out Jim Rice's Fenway splits. Oh and overall Boggs had just a .781 OPS and just a 82 OPS+ for his career on the road. Don't get me going on Wade Boggs... 10 strange beer names and their stories... So turns out Bernie Madoff is going to be to the Wilpons and the Mets what Michael Jackson was to the Sullivans and the Patriots... Never noticed it before but Captain Crunch has crazy eyes. Just left Charlie Sheen's house kind of crazy eyes... I'm guessing Cromartie didn't put aside any game checks like NFLPA suggested. No wonder he's so uptight... Maybe it's the name "Wade" - Wade Boggs, Ed Wade, Wade Phillips - not a guy in the bunch I like...

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

I wonder if Jeremiah Masoli had not had to transfer from Oregon and he had led the team to an unbeaten season - would the Heisman voting have been close with Cam Newton? You have to think Masoli would have at least been in the discussion... Last night's 30 for 30 on SMU getting the death penalty was fascinating. One thing they did not touch on though was the fact that the Booster (Sherwood Blount) who really killed SMU football was Craig James' agent. I have no respect for Craig James whatsoever... Is it me or is Jeff Fisher starting to give off Tom Landry in 1987 type vibes?... How great would it be if Cliff Lee signs with the Rangers and Andy Pettitte decides to retire for real... Here's a bit of history you never hear mentioned - in 1911 the Kentucky Derby banned black jockeys after they won 15 of first 28 Derbies... Here's the answer to a little thing that had bugged me. If Marlin is still the plural of Marlin (i.e "I caught several marlin") - then why do they call them the Marlins? It turns out that Marlins is used unless a specific number is denoted... A jumper cable walks into a bar. The bartender says, 'I'll serve you, but don't start anything'
