P&P as a series of video blogs. I've only made it to #5, but I'm laughing my ass off here.

JMS has posted on his Facebook page that Michael O'Hare, our valiant Commander Sinclair, has passed beyond the rim.

"I regret that I must convey the sad news that Michael O'Hare passed away today. He suffered a heart attack on Sunday and was in a coma until his passing this afternoon. This is a terrible loss for all B5 fans and everyone involved with the show wishes to convey their condolences to the O'Hare family. He was an amazing man."

I could NOT stop laughing. Tony takes the team on the Ultimate Road Trip. Complete with a wine list.

Now what?

It's my 21st wedding anniversary. My husband and I planned to do dinner and a movie to celebrate.

So last night, before I went to bed, I bought two tickets to the 7:30 this evening show of The Dark Knight Rises.

At this point, as Ghod is my witness, I have no idea what to do.

...or at least my brother is.

Friday, my brother went into the ER for what my mom described as "some sort of boil on his backside". It was painful and inflamed, and the folks at the hospital thought it was a big enough deal to admit him. They operated on the "boil". He was released this evening.

As he was released, his doctor came by his bed and told him exactly what had happened to him. (Why this explanation was not made until he was released is beyond me, but I digress.) Apparently, my brother presented with one of the worst cases of necrotizing flesh the doctor had ever seen. They had to excise a large portion of his butt to remove it all. He's got at least a 30-60 day recovery ahead of him.

My brother is presently unemployed, and lives with my mom. Mom is on Social Security, and takes care of my step-dad, who is bedridden with MS. Brother has no insurance, and no savings. But the total bill for his hospitalization was ZERO. Zilch. Apparently some part of the Affordable Care Act is responsible for this blessing. Don't ask me which part, I don't know. Not sure I care.

My brother came closer than I like to think to dying at the age of 50, eaten alive by some damned superbug. Thank you President Obama, for saving my brother's life.

Well, now that I have a piece of art for the SGA Reverse Big Bang (got my first choice, cool!), now I have to find 10,000 words about it that don't suck. On a deadline. Tell me again why I signed up for this? Sigh.

After more than a year of not being able to think of a single thing to write, I've signed up to write 10,000 words.

Here's hoping there's SOMETHING behind that dam. And whichever picture I choose is the dynamite.

It's been a tough year for critters at Chez Laz. We lost Kethry to old age last New Year's Eve, and our little dog Scully to a traffic accident mid-October. The day before Halloween, we found out our senior grey kitty Moondust had cancer.

The doctor called it "moderately aggressive" and took a chunk out of her back. But he didn't get it all, and he knew that and told us that it was quite likely that it had invaded her spine and possibly her lungs. We decided against chemo and radiation - she's 13 years old and has never had a lot of weight on her.

Well, the "moderately aggressive" phrase was full of shit, because it came roaring back with a vengeance. Huge lumps on her shoulders and back, even more weight loss, evident pain walking. She lost interest in eating a few days ago. She can't hardly move or lift her head.

Mr Laz is on his way to the vet right now, to put an end to her suffering.

She was a beautiful fluffy grey baby, probably with an angora in the family tree somewhere. Tiny, she was the perfect happy lap kitty, preferring her Daddy's lap. She often curled up on the bed with us at night, but she was definitely Daddy's girl.

Goodbye, little grey baby.

In the past two years, I've met a lot of writers - Allen Steele, Rob Sawyer, Jo Fletcher, John deChancie, Harry Turtledove (actually, I've known Harry for a while), and scads of others that I ran into while feeding them at World Fantasy.

I'm making this list, not to name-drop, but to make this statement. Happy Birthday to one of the best writers I know - [personal profile] lanning!

When I was working in the dealer's room at a WorldCon, a lovely white-haired lady in a mobi wheeled up and asked if we had any Stargate novelizations. My fellow bookseller quickly informed me that the nice white-haired lady was none other than Anne McCaffrey, the author of the Pern books and the first woman to win both the Hugo and the Nebula awards. We had several of the Stargate books she wanted, and she bought them all. Then she offered to sign any of her books that we had on hand, an offer we quickly took her up on. She was gracious and sweet, smiling at the world.

The world is a poorer place now that the Dragonlady is gone.

It was a very good, and a very bad, weekend.

The very good? On Saturday night, Mr Laz and I attended a party celebrating the 39th birthday of the Star Trek Association for Revival - San Diego. STAR turned into the major science fiction club in the area and has been going ever since. Mr Laz and I met through STAR, at a Bjo Trimble lecture. So it was a great evening - good food, good people, good conversation.

The very bad. While we were gone, somehow our little dog got out of the back yard and was hit by a car. Some good Samaritan who saw the accident picked her up and ran her to the emergency vet, but she was already gone when she got there. They called and left a message on our answering machine which was, of course, time-stamped. We left the house at 5:30, patted the dogs on the head over the gate, and went to dinner. The time stamp on the message from the vet was 6:45.

We have no idea how she got out of the yard. We've left her and her big brother out there hundreds of times, no problems. We checked the fence next morning - no holes, no digging, the gates closed and locked.

We may never know what happened. But a million blessings on the kind person who picked up a dying animal and tried to save them. If they hadn't done that, we might never have known what happened to our girl.

She was only 11, and a little dog. She had at least another five or ten years in her. She was annoying, noisy, loving, excitable, adorable.

I'm going to miss my noisy baby.

Oh, behave!

Me, behave? Seriously? As a child I saw Tarzan almost naked, Cinderella arrived home after midnight, Pinocchio told lies, Aladdin was a thief, Batman drove over 200 miles an hour, Snow White lived in a house with 7 men, Popeye smoked a pipe and had tattoos, Pac Man ran around to digital music while eating pills that enhanced his performance, and Shaggy and Scooby were mystery solving hippies that always had the munchies. The fault is not mine! If you had this childhood and loved it...REPOST
