Friday

Woke way early again after not getting to bed until 2330. Very annoying, and tiring. rested until the puppy got us out of bed, which was earlier than usual

Both kids home sick again today. :S I think we'll be looking at immunology testing, because they have been sick far too often these last 5 months.

Fired up ACNH; spent some time playing with some of the new features.
Went for an SDW with GB and the puppy, and a game of fetch after
Got F meds and tea and other stuff
Breakfasted

Played more ACNH
Played spades Blood tourney
Attended acupuncture, which was good
ACNL
Watched Bridgerton with F
Dinner of leftovers (in my case, pizza)
Went down a rabbit hole of finding videos on sewing machine repair for my vintage Singer Genie, because I think that the feed dogs might be worn out, but maybe, they just need realigning.
Watched a couple of episodes of Starfleet Academy, which feels a lot like a teen show, but it has enough of the adult instructors in there, that I think it will be watchable for us older folk, too.
Sliced the bread and put it into the freezer
Went to bed far too late.

Headache much of the day, probably barometric changes. Hot flashes late in the evening. Again more tired than my usual.

JotD: none

"Watched" F playing BG3, and finally finished the darn on a sock
Ate dinner, while watching Charlotte (and more episodes into the evening_)
Played ACNH

Hot flash late in the evening again. :/ and Too Tired!

I always hated the term "New Year's Resolution," especially the way we think of it here. And the word "goal" isn't quite what I want this year either. Not being able to fulfill a resolution or a goal is often perceived as failure. I don't really think that I want to set myself up for failure if I can't achieve a resolution or a goal. Proposal seems to fit the bill, I think. To me, if a proposal doesn't work out, or can't be sustained, well, it happens.

Anyway, in 2026, I propose to:

Wear jewelry more. I have a lot of jewelry, and when I went out, I tended to wear jewelry. I don't go out much now, so I don't usually put on any jewelry. I have a LOT of jewelry, and it should be worn! And maybe it will help my mood at home. At the least, I need to find silver or gold post studs to wear as everyday in the ear piercings currently unoccupied.

Continue to make things frequently. I'm not sure if I've been less depressed because I've been able to make things because my brain is working better, or if I'm able to make things because I'm less depressed because my brain is working better. Whatever. I've made more things this year since I got medicated for the CFS, in part because my brain is working better. I was even able to finish some small needlepoint and cross stitch projects, which I could not do last year.

Redeem gift cards. I started to do this a few years ago. I redeemed some, but not all. It's time to get things before the companies won't honor the cards.

Respond to others' posts more often. I don't often have much to comment, except maybe "me too!" which is why I kinda like the 'like' button on tumblr, an "I read your post" indicator when I don't have a comment. Or sometimes, I just don't have the spoons, and I mean to come back later and that never happens.

Post to DW more I post on a near-daily basis over on tumblr, and not so much on DW. I post on tumblr because for me, it seem more conducive to the short form bullet-point format that I use to track my days. I track my days, because if I don't, I don't remember doing anything, and thinking that I haven't done things contributes to depression. So I write it down, in bullet points. Sometimes, I have thoughts, but mostly, it's a list. I'm trying to decide if I want do a daily "crosspost" cut and paste from tumblr to DW, or if I want do a weekly post with links back to tumblr, or if I want to do a major highlights post using tumblr posts as reference. If you have an opinion, please let me know!

I thought that I had one more thing to propose, but it currently escapes me, so there might be an Edited To Add later.

ETA:
Ah ha! Someone else's post on something similar reminded me!

Finish 26 craft projects in '26 This is largely directed toward finishing my pile of WIPs; I know that I have so many things to finish! Knitting baby hats and mending do NOT count.

Hi all!

October will be here in 2 DAYS! Since 2008, October for me has been National Craft Making Month, or NaCraMaMo for short. NaCraMaMo started as a community on LJ, and I started a new [community profile] nacramamo community on DreamWidth when I moved here in 2017.

In short, during National Craft Making Month in October, you work on a craft every day for a month and post pictures of your work daily in [community profile] nacramamo. [community profile] nacramamo is very free-form; you can work on the same project every day or work on different projects every day. Crafting is also very loosely defined; it's basically anything that you do with your hands that results in a tangible object. For example, I count baking as crafting, but I don't count making dinner as crafting (but you might!)

A lot of people use [community profile] nacramamo as a jumpstart for Halloween projects and Winter holiday gift making.

I'd love to have you join me, giving it your best shot.
ladythmpr: (Art)
I totally forgot to post here that I was again doing the National Craft Making Month Challenge. You can read all about the stuff I did over in [community profile] nacramamo .

Here's a wrap up of my crafting month:

Things washed: 12 skeins of yarn, 4 cross-stitch projects

Brown sugar batches: 2

Jewelry repair: 1

Baking sessions: 5

Socks darned: 1

Baby hats knitted: 5

Skeins of yarn prepped for washing: 4

Center pull balls of yarn made: 9

Axolatl toys made: 1

Those numbers look pretty good to me!

My household family has a tradition of going to the beach to watch the last sunset of the year. Yesterday, at the time we would have left, it was still raining at the beach, the cloud cover was total, and the wind was blowing. In addition there was a lot of flooding, we didn't know exactly where the flooding might be, and we'd heard more emergency sirens in my neighborhood in one day than we had in a month, AND we were kinda tired from dealing with our own stint of flooding (we think that one of our downspouts that comes into the house has a crack in a pipe that doesn't leak until the pipe has more water flowing through it in a day than we've seen in years).

ANYWAY, we stayed home, watched Strange World (please see it, if you can, it has wonderful representation and not so subtle messages, and great animation, and was NOT promoted AT ALL), and, during the movie, I made a center-pull yarn cake (I originally typed yake) from a #6 bulky blanket yarn that I picked up a thrift store (that I had already been washed and balled, but cakes are so much nice to deal with!) using a DIY nostepinne. Thank you YT videos!

[ID: a very large yarn cake made from grey and white yarn, with a DIY nostepinne made from a heavy duty paper core. End ID]

For the rest of the evening, we dinked around doing our own stuff (I folded some of the many now-clean towels used to sop up the flood waters, played ACNH and YPP, and watched a dinosaur documentary), before coming back together at midnight to toast the new year with rose sparkling apple cider. The weather had cleared completely, and we were able to see the city fireworks from our bedroom window! Then we shoved the children into bed, and we followed soon after.

To make up for raining out the last sunset of 2022, Mother Nature blessed us with a nearly clear first sunrise of 2023!

The southern view from my bedroom window:

Today is a New Year, according the the calendar. May it be better for us all.

Moved!

My household moved yesterday! It's been a tiring couple of days, even though I did none of the heavy lifting.

Having the movers pack for you has its pros and cons. Pro: They get it done a LOT faster than you can (there's no nostalgia factor). Con: They pack and label by room, and do not inventory the contents of the box (though I think you can add that on), so, unless you are VERY organized before the move (we *aren't*), you have no idea what is in a box until you unpack. However, that might actually get us to unpack faster, so we can actually find things.

11 cups of cooked tomatoes, 2 cups cubed mangoes, and 3 pounds of cremini mushrooms, processed and in the freezer. Chicken carcass in the slow cooker to make stock. I am exhausted, but ACCOMPLISHED!!
ladythmpr: (crash)
(This is a very different departure from what I generally do, but the days are running together more than usual. And "everyone" says that we are living through a historic event, blah blah blah. Look for backdated previous weeks' entries.)

A couple of thoughts...

* Teachers deserve million dollar salaries.
* Vote in November like your life depended on it, because it just might.

Going to try this again, or I just don't remember what I do. A combination of too much reading net, and not much liking writing, and being too tired at the end of the day.

I didn't quite make a resolution to read more books in 2019, but I really wanted to get back to reading more books. I even started a spreadsheet to keep track of my reading, which I managed to keep for all of two books. My library keeps a record of my checked-out materials, but only of physical media, not electronic media. I did find the toggle to turn on history for my most used library service for ebooks.

So, this list is cobbled together from my library history, stuff I had in my personal ereader, info in ADE, and undeleted (but expired) ebooks on my computer. It's probably not complete, but the list is considerably longer than I expected. Books listed are in no particular order.

Or, at least, not here.

I kind of lost September.

I posted to [community profile] nacramamoin October for National Craft Making Month.

I posted more in general to my Tumblr account, and almost every day in November during National Clean Yo Home month.

December was its usual busy month; but by being the closest in the rear view mirror, I have better memory of it. The holidays were low key, and cozy, and there was a trip to Canada to visit the kids' relatives and various other friends. Gluten free high tea was incredible!

Here's to more posting in the new year.

I did a lot of specific spot unfucking this past weekend; those little places I look at every SINGLE day, and mostly ignore. NONE of these little unfuckings took more than 15 minutes. Thanks, lying brain that tells me it'll take too long to unfuck these places!

The Final five days of my month-long challenge!

We went away for Spring Break to see the snow! (The kids don’t remember the only other time they’ve seen snow, as they were only 2). I like looking at snow, but I don’t like being in snow for long periods of time, as it’s cold, so I spent a lot of time in the cabin sorting pictures for my mom , watching Netflix, and working on latch hook.

Day 28

20190328

Day 29

20190328

Day 30

One of my kids was recreating a project she saw on youtube: an idyllic beach scene, and I was tasked with making the palm trees because I had the glue gun. :)

20190330

Day 31 (last day!)

20190331

The challenge month is done! And I only missed about 4 days, and those were due to illness. I feel very accomplished.

Even though the month didn’t go as craftingly as I planned (2+ weeks of illness takes its toll) I did craft almost every day. Here’s to not getting so bogged down or distracted (I’m talking too much unnecessary Internet time here) again that I forget how much I enjoy the process of creation on a near-daily basis.

20190317

And then, I either relapsed, or came down with another throat/lung thing, and if I got anything more done than the necessary it was a win. I probably worked more on the latch hook project than I took pictures, but honestly, I can’t remember.
