Apr. 18th, 2007 01:45 pmI have been quite distracted recently because I am just starting to get into my thesis. This tends to make me a bit other-worldly and forgetful. However, I should probably write up here about some Tv shows.
First, Ugly Betty -
Second, Dr Who -
First, Ugly Betty -
this week's episode was cute and fun. Though I am really beginning to hate Walter, Betty's boyfriend. The strange thing is I am not sure if the scriptwriters want me to hate him or not. They seem to be setting him up as a sort of everyman who will keep betty grounded but, honestly he looks more like a total dickhead who is holding her back. In the scene in the restaurant where the concierge lady is refusing to seat them and Betty gets all haughty and says "I'm from Mode - MODE" I was all supportive and 'yay Betty is standing up for herself'. But Walter was clearly uncomfortable. He didn't like new assertive Betty. The rest of the episode seemed to support his position, which roughly translates as "we should avoid these posh people and their hangouts because they are not like us and they are total wankers." and that is actually a position that does have its merits - those people were total wankers and probably should be avoided but I still like assertive Betty and would like her to continue to grow in this way.
Second, Dr Who -
I liked this week's episode. Not with the same passion that I adored last week but it was good fun. I liked Ardal O'Hanlon as the cat man - he was funny though it took me a moment longer than I think it should have to identify his voice. I liked the little old married ladies. I found the whole idea of the neverending traffic jam suitably creepy. I did think the face of Bo's secret was a bit of an anti-climax - though I suppose the doctor didn't think so. I am actually largely unspoiled for the rest of the season but I strongly, strongly suspect that Saxon is the Master. I mean they are not being terribly subtle with the hint dropping.
