The state of TV watching

katesnotesI am not going to comment on all the TV I am watching - just two shows - Stargate Universe and Eastwick.
First SGU - It's not that bad. Frankly Atlantis was rubbish and I am not unhappy that they canceled it - the only good thing about it was McKay, the Wraith were incredibly boring bad guys and they never did enough with the city concept.
There are problems with SGU - it doesn't seem to have the courage of its convictions with the isolation stuff. So far its science fiction conceits can be guessed from the adverts let alone actually watching the episodes - I mean the whole heading for the sun thing was clearly going to be energy gathering - there was no tension there.
I read someone on LJ or DW somewhere who remarked that the SG creators were never actually very high quality on the scripting and concept department and that they were trying to make a high quality show and that was one of the big problems instead of the silly fun of SG1 or SGA it we are getting failed drama. But I am prepared to give them a bit more rope on this - the concept is interesting, like they are attempting to do atlantis right.
SOme of the characters are good too particularly RUsh. I kinda love him - I have been conditioned to love Robbie Carlyle since the mid nineties (Hamish Macbeth and Priest) and if Begbie (Trainspotting) and Albie (Cracker) can't put me off him there is no way that Rush can. ANd in any case Rush is usually right - I hate it when characters who are actually correct are ignored because they aren't polite about it. Its one of the many reasons I can't watch old Trek - SPock was always right and the others ignored him cos he wasn't all sentimental like that idiot racist Bones.
So to Conclude SGU - I am still giving it a chance.
ANd now Eastwick. I LOVE THIS SHOW . I do not understand why it hasn't got massive buzz. It is about women - who aren't young - being wonderful and powerful. It has Paul Gross. Rebecca Romjin isn't even thin. I have only seen two episodes but my god the wonderfullness so far has to be seen to be believed. I hope they don't cancel it. I am considering casting spells to protect it and I don't actually believe in supernatural shit.
