I don't have a great grasp of just how fucked up this is, but I know it's very.
Here are some gathered links on the subject:
LJ's creator jumps ship. Bye, Brad.
Though it's fandom_wank, a great 'splainin post is HERE.
But the most comprehensive one is HERE.
Me? I'm not leaving LJ yet. But I will NOT be giving them any more of my money. My main other location is at Journalfen (the JF is MUCH more fannish, slashy etc, so if that's not your thing, don't bother), but I'm also squatting at GreatestJournal and InsaneJournal.
What you need to know about JournalFen: there is no open registration. I have a permanent account, so if you think you'd like a fannish journal there, please let me know and I'll request one for you. All I need is the following info: requested journal name, alternate journal name (in case your first choice is taken), email addy, age (they are an over 18 site).
Eventually, I may post over at GJ or IJ, but I'm not sure yet. I'm not extremely familiar with either of them or their policies. I've dealt personally with the mods/owners of JF, and I am so pleased with how REAL and NICE they are! They work their asses off to keep that site running and they deserve our business. For further, better arguments, see
nardasarmy's post HERE.
Some of you may be wondering, "HOW DO I SAVE MY JOURNAL OMG I DON'T WANT IT TO BE BAHLEETED!!!" A great program is ljarchive. I LOVE it and use it for all of my journals, fandom or no. A great How-To is located HERE, posted by
elke_tanzer, but created by the wonderful
rahalia_cat who has already fled for greener, better pastures.
I know I have a lot of friends here who are not on any of the other journaling services. So for now, I will still be posting here. But when my paid account expires (not til next June, argh), I will NOT be renewing. And soon, I may set up some RSS feeds, so I don't have to constantly cross-post between here and JournalFen.
Whatever happens, I will always keep you all posted.
Much love.
