Another closure lining machine off our floor in Verona, WI. This cell (CAP5-7) lines and inspects caps across six lanes before they move downstream to packout. Inline detection runs on Keyence photoelectric sensors and vision, verifying liner presence and cap position before anything ships. Closure lining and stacking has been part of our work since our CapTech days, and it's still one of the areas we get the most calls about. We recently purchased a new Image Dimension Measurement System to assist with our product inspections before they shipped out to customers! This is the Keyence series IM-X, which has capabilities for high precision measurement for up to 1000 parts at once! For Torr Scientific, the system is particularly useful for inspecting precision components used in vacuum applications. We can create custom programs to measure and compare the values for specified sections of a component against nominal values and with specified tolerances across 2D dimensions and non-contact height measurements. This machine can then generate detailed reports for our team regarding these measurements and if the part passes through inspection. There are various setting for the lighting and cameras, including back-lighting which works much like a shadowgraph for the most accurate 2-dimensional measurement. For the high accuracy edge detection, the machine contains high precision camera, covering a small surface area, and the lighting can switch from white to green. This improves performance because the wavelength for green is useful for providing high brightness contrast. Laser light can also be used to calculate the depth, calculated based on wavelength from the reflections. Follow KEYENCE Microscopy for engineering stories a few hundred microns wide. This past month, the team looked into connector recesses without opening them, walked the wall of a plated through-hole, kept its bearings on a high-density board, told foreign particles from growing whiskers, read the character of a mold surface, followed beach marks across a fatigue fracture, cleared reflections off a glass bottle, and identified plating layers element by element. One area we've been heavily focused on is 3D vision-guided robotics for intelligent machine tending. Our latest development platform combines an ABB IRB 140 with a #KeyenceCorporation RB800 3D Vision System, communicating through a high-speed socket messaging interface to execute deterministic path planning algorithms.
