This journal is strictly friends-only. If you're looking for fic, please skip along to [livejournal.com profile] tristesses.

Should you be interested in adding me, please comment so I'll know you're someone to be friended back!

It's Kink Bingo time again! This is my second favorite challenge of the year, after Yuletide. It's amazing how much insight I can get into a character or pairing by figuring out how they'd approach a kink or scenario (see: the first several Spock/Uhura fics I wrote).

Card and brainstorming under cut, both blatantly copypasta'd from my fic journal )

And now, two questions:

1) Anybody planning to participate in [livejournal.com profile] rarepairfest? If so, what fandoms/pairings have you signed up for? I'm still contemplating signing up, myself.

2) I'm thinking about moving all my journaling back to [personal profile] tristesses (while still crossposting to LJ, of course); I rarely write about my personal life here, and when I do I lock and filter it, so using two journals is a little bulky. I'm just worried about annoying people who originally friended me for my fic. What do you guys think about authors who use their writing journals for their (erratically-posted) RL and brainstorming posts?

I just finished (minus a few objectively terrible ones). I've written 75 fics over the past two and a half years, which actually doesn't seem like all that much. It's been interesting seeing how my interests have shifted, since I started with my most recent posts and went backwards. Apparently I was really into non-con in 2009; everything I wrote (mostly Batman and a little Harry Potter) was centered around those themes. It's something I'm not particularly into now, though I did reread those fics and was impressed with myself for writing them - not that I'm vain or anything. Anyway, it's nice to have a masterpost of everything that's so manageable. Have I mentioned I really like AO3?

Except for their importing system. That sucks.

Things have been exciting in my fannish life lately! And by exciting, I mean I'm reading a lot, and also writing a little bit, but that is a huge improvement over aimlessly surfing tumblr for hours and staring at a blank document, willing a clever story to appear on the screen.

1) [community profile] where_no_woman is having a femslash/queer gen-themed summer fic exchange! This thing was tailor-made for me, I swear. Any female-identified character from all the Trek canons can be written about and/or slashed, and since the crowd at w_n_w is generally really creative and talented, I'm pretty certain it's going to be awesome. (This is a not-so-subtle nudge that you should sign up, if femslash and/or queer women is your thing.)

2) So, I finished A Feast for Crows. And OH MY GOD I'M SO GLAD THE NEXT BOOK COMES OUT IN JULY even if I'll probably have to wait six years for the next next book (too lazy to look up titles; I know, I know, that's incredibly lazy). I have so many feelings about this series (to start: I love Sansa! And Cersei! And their multitude of flaws! And also Dany! Yet the fandom seems to hate them! You suck, fandom-at-large), and no one to share them with! So I've been babbling about them to my mother, who has at least read the books, though she's not the fannish sort at all and so tends to side-eye my lightning-quick obsessive capability. Still, by the time the next book comes out I will have an internet space with which to talk about it! Not quite related, but why is it that I always ship things with either tinhat fans or baby's-first-fandom type people? I should stop shipping het. Geez, self. (P.S. Not likely to happen.)

3) Lady Gaga's new album comes out Monday, and me being me, I downloaded the low-quality leak to make sure I wanted to buy it. It's amazing. Seriously, you guys. The singles all uniformly sucked, with the exception of Judas, but I see why she released those songs first; their Disney cheese is more crowd-pleasing, true, but it's made up for by the rest of the album, which is a lot grittier and darker than I expected. See: Bloody Mary and Schiße. Both are fucking fantastic. And I'm so happy it's so good, because I was really afraid it would be...well, like Hair and Born This Way. But it's not, and I love it, and do you know how hard it is for me to not be a Gaga stan? I have a kneejerk reaction whenever anyone criticizes her where I'm like HDU, SHE IS THE FLAWLESS HBIC and etcetera, but then I remind myself that I'm not a denizen of ONTD and a lot of critique is valid. Still. This album fucking rocks.

4) It snowed yesterday. (Weather is always on-subject.) Usually I'm the one to point out how not all of Arizona is a desert, but really, nature? Snow in May?

GOD I FORGOT HOW MUCH I SHIPPED JANEWAY/SEVEN. Let me tell you how much: A WHOLE LOT. Seven of Nine, please marry me if you won't have Janeway Also, apparently Tuvok/Neelix is a popular pairing? I guess that's...interesting, though Neelix is basically my dad at his most annoying turned into a hedgehog alien so I cannot imagine anything romantic with him at all.

Yeah, so, Voyager rewatch, obviously. Except it's less a rewatch than skipping around watching episodes I loved during the wee hours of the morning when I can't sleep. Hello, insomnia!

It does make me want to write Vulcans again. I should write a T'Pring fic set in the AOS timeline.

I kind of want writing inspiration, so here are two memes about characters. Any fandom I've written in, plus Fringe and VOY (obviously).

Tell me a pairing, and I will tell you:

1. When or if I started shipping them:
2. What I think their challenge is:
3. What makes me happy about them:
4. What makes me sad about them:
5. What moment I wish had never happened:
6. Who I'd be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other:
7. My happily ever after for them:

Alternately, the "Give me a character and I will tell you six facts from my headcanon about them" meme. Same fandoms as above.

I just finished and posted my Yuletide story, and now I think I'm going to fall over and sleep for hours and wake up around 3 p.m. on the 24th so my grandmother doesn't get mad at me for missing Christmas dinner.

I think it's a sign that school curricula should be revised when writing fanfic is more difficult than finals. Assuming I did well on my finals, that is.

house colors.

a Hogwarts AU prompt meme

Because I want to see Uhura and Spock bickering about Ancient Runes and McCoy as a NEWT student who has to tutor fifth years, one of whom is Kirk (who is obnoxious and he doesn't have the patience for Potions, dammit), and Gaila and Christine ditch class and have adventures, then have to cram all night for their test the next day! And maybe there are Romulans! (Maybe the Romulan Commander is in Slytherin with Spock and everyone wonders why they're so tense and competitive because no one knows about the handsex!) Maybe there are too many exclamation points.

Can you tell I'm dying for a Star Trek/HP fusion?

Two of my teachers cancelled class today to go wait in line around three p.m. Go teachers.

Really now

So far seven people I went to high school with are pregnant and/or married. Seven! Out of the eighty-odd people I know on Facebook, which is just a small fraction of my graduating class. WE ARE NINETEEN YEARS OLD, HOW ANYONE COULD HAVE THE GUTS/RESPONSIBILITY TO HAVE A BABY IS BEYOND ME.

As for the meme: every person got at least one vote, but the majority was for Rosario (?!?), so she's been voted off. Again, I am really surprised at you guys! It's Rosario Dawson. I thought everyone loved her.

Day seven: black and white )

Mostly from the Awesome Ladies Ficathon (although I haven't gone through them all, yet!), with a few other pieces thrown in. I'd have waited until I finished reading through everything, but I am trying to write Tharkay/Granby for the Porn Battle right after finishing up an Trek fic where Uhura and Gaila fight Klingons and slave traders til the death, so my mind is filled with violence and angst where there should be porn and angst. Therefore, you guys get recs. I need something to clear my head. Linking to loads of stories by hand does that for me. (I suck at HTML forever.)

I have a job interview tomorrow.

Recs from the following fandoms: Doctor Who, Glee, pop star RPF, Scooby Doo, Star Trek VOY )

Oh, and day 18 of the music meme. )

A quick question - would any of you recognize the word "moggy" as slang to mean an alley cat? I've never heard of it until now, but I want to know if it's used in any regional dialects in the USA.
joyeuses: A comic-style image of cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova (Default)
I really, really like the Eighth Doctor. Yeah, I said it. I blame the velvet coat. And romantic subplot aside, the 1996 movie was actually not that bad! I've certainly sat through worse, and enjoyed them. Then again, I have no taste when it comes to this show, so!

Incidentally, a question: I keep trying to upload Russian songs into my iTunes library, but no matter what I label them, the song titles come out like "Ëåòÿùàÿ" and such. I'm confused because 1) the songs have romanized titles, not Cyrillic, so the system shouldn't have a problem, and 2) I have songs in my library that are in Cyrillic and there isn't a problem with that, so wtf is going on with my computer. Any ideas?

Anyway, here's one of those thirty-day memes, this one about music (appropriately enough), ganked from [personal profile] timeasmymeasure. Although I have no idea if I'll be able to do it in the next week, what with the being in the forest and probably not around an internet connection.

Day one: Your current favorite song )

I have officially completed my bingo. The fact that I managed to do so actually astounds me, since when I got my card I was feeling so unproductive and not remotely creative, but hey. I'm pleased that I a) wrote in a new fandom, and b) wrote more HP fic (yay!).

Now, onto the extras. Situational humiliation/obedience/sensory deprivation/temperature play postage stamp, anyone? The scene's in my head, I just need to find characters that fit the shadow-faced people acting it out in my head.

This almost makes up for the fact that my car is continuing to slowly decay from the inside out, no matter how many times I take it in.

(Is Dreamwidth fucking up terribly for anyone else, or is that just me?)

Also, a rec!

Dexterity, by leupagus, screamlet, and waldorph. Amanda Grayson, Winona Macawi (eventually Kirk), misc. others. PG-13. Detailing one of Amanda Grayson's first diplomatic assignments, which happens to be on the USS Kelvin.

It is seriously fucking hilarous, and has excellent characterization, too! Go read and enjoy.

ohhhhh shit

My external hard drive just crashed. I can't find a way to bring it back. Do you know what that means? It means I've just lost two term papers, a ten minute long Powerpoint presentation, and the essay portion of my German final. When do I have to turn all of this in? Nine a.m. tomorrow.

...

...brb quietly dying in a puddle of failure and broken USB cables.

I seriously do not know what I'm going to do now. Time to call my teachers and hope they check their messages tomorrow.

...fuck.

About how absolutely fucked up this bill is, and how ashamed I am to live in a state where racial and ethnic profiling is endorsed by law.

I am just. No words right now.

At least people are protesting, and vehemently. Hopefully the barrage of voices and letters will make those in power (I'm looking at you, Jan Brewer) think again and repeal the bill.
