Things have been exciting in my fannish life lately! And by exciting, I mean I'm reading a lot, and also writing a little bit, but that is a huge improvement over aimlessly surfing tumblr for hours and staring at a blank document, willing a clever story to appear on the screen.
1)
where_no_woman is having a femslash/queer gen-themed
summer fic exchange! This thing was tailor-made for me, I swear. Any female-identified character from all the Trek canons can be written about and/or slashed, and since the crowd at w_n_w is generally really creative and talented, I'm pretty certain it's going to be awesome. (This is a not-so-subtle nudge that you should sign up, if femslash and/or queer women is your thing.)
2) So, I finished
A Feast for Crows. And OH MY GOD I'M SO GLAD THE NEXT BOOK COMES OUT IN JULY even if I'll probably have to wait six years for the next next book (too lazy to look up titles; I know, I know, that's incredibly lazy). I have so many
feelings about this series (to start: I love Sansa! And Cersei! And their multitude of flaws! And also Dany! Yet the fandom seems to hate them! You suck, fandom-at-large), and no one to share them with! So I've been babbling about them to my mother, who has at least read the books, though she's not the fannish sort at all and so tends to side-eye my lightning-quick obsessive capability. Still, by the time the next book comes out I will have an internet space with which to talk about it!
Not quite related, but why is it that I always ship things with either tinhat fans or baby's-first-fandom type people? I should stop shipping het. Geez, self. (P.S. Not likely to happen.)3) Lady Gaga's new album comes out Monday, and me being me, I downloaded the low-quality leak to make sure I wanted to buy it. It's amazing. Seriously, you guys. The singles all uniformly sucked, with the exception of Judas, but I see why she released those songs first; their Disney cheese is more crowd-pleasing, true, but it's made up for by the rest of the album, which is a lot grittier and darker than I expected. See: Bloody Mary and Schiße. Both are fucking fantastic. And I'm so happy it's so good, because I was really afraid it would be...well, like Hair and Born This Way. But it's not, and I love it, and do you know how hard it is for me to not be a Gaga stan? I have a kneejerk reaction whenever anyone criticizes her where I'm like HDU, SHE IS THE FLAWLESS HBIC and etcetera, but then I remind myself that I'm not a denizen of ONTD and a lot of critique is valid. Still. This album fucking
rocks.
4) It snowed yesterday. (Weather is always on-subject.) Usually I'm the one to point out how not all of Arizona is a desert, but really, nature? Snow in May?
