SoCS: Blushing, Not Caring (so much), and Dogs

Today’s prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “blush.” Use as a noun, use it as a verb, use it any way you’d like. Enjoy!

It’s hard to hide a blush when you have pale skin. My big sister used to say, ” Your freckles are fading.” Being at an age of single digits, I didn’t know what she meant at first. Then she told me I was blushing. Who remembers why? I have no idea.

Blushing is an honest response. Its involuntary nature makes it almost impossible to control. But nothing is impossible. One could attempt to move into Vulcan mode to prevent blushing. But why bother? Just blush on. We are human, after all.

I do not care if I blush. Have you seen the Black woman on Facebook or YouTube who shares lists of things she does not care about? Her name is Melani. I think she’s hilarious, because for most of my life, I’ve cared too much about too many things. I still do, and I’d rather not care so much about things that don’t matter. I’m not sharing a link. You can look her up, or not. I do not care. But she’s started the “We Do Not Care Club” originally for women going through perimenopause and menopause. She reads additions to the club’s list with a deadpan tone which makes it even funnier.

I do care about dogs. Dogs don’t blush. There is no need. They are free to be themselves if they are loved well. They might hang their head if they’re caught having chewed up something like a pillow or a sock, but that would be their blush. Then they move on, unabashed.

A couple days ago, I redirected Marley from barking at deer. I had seen them first and was miraculously able to get my phone out to take a picture before he started barking which moved the deer in the other direction

Marley wanted so badly to chase them, but eventually accepted that this is not acceptable. He forgot about the deer when playing with his ball.
