Bellowing got me up here

Welcome to Haiku Fridays with J-Dub. Each week, I’ll post a haiku and a photo to spark reflection, emotion, or imagination.

Your challenge is simple: write your own haiku inspired by it—or on any theme that moves you—and share it in the comments.

Short, simple, powerful haiku—tiny poems that carry a big wallop. Capture a moment, a feeling, a memory—whatever comes through in 11 (3-5-3) or 17 (5-7-5) syllables. There’s no pressure, no judging, just a space to create and share.

This is about voice, reflection, and the quiet power of small poems.

Let the games continue.

years given into your hands
I was cut open

my children still wait
his branch missing from the page
does he see it too

should I even ask
maybe this is all there is
silence answers me

Thursday Thoughts with Haiku ~ 12/12/24

I’m thinking I should write more poetry because doing so helps me center myself. In the same way music helps lift my mood. I need to start using all the tools in my self-help toolkit. Any of you who have been around the blog awhile know I always feel the need to explain what I’m doing. Here we go again with “Another lame attempt at poetry.” There are “rules” I loosely follow. I call this one dog’s haircut. Don’t ask why …

Broken to pieces

I have not learned my lesson

To expect nothing

Again and again

I hope for a miracle

Of being let in

5/7/5 x 2

Pony would call me on the lack of juxtaposition in this haiku. I can hear his baritone voice, “Mom it’s not really haiku without that.” I’d banter back & say, “broken to pieces is a contrast to hope for a miracle. And that my dear one is juxtaposed.” He as a purist would disagree but we’d both be right.

If I tell you what got me spun up this time, you’d laugh. A dog’s haircut! LOL. Freaking ridiculous how sensitive I am. But they’re my feelings dammit. I get to be ridiculous. Still I know that I overreacted as per my usual sensitive soul. I’m over it. I have “bigger fish to fry” as they say. Ugh! It’s always something. Today’s something is we will get the care plan for B’s mom this evening. Wish us luck.

As always, more to come.
