a few non-pointery things!
Mar. 24th, 2018 05:37 pm- My little town had a March For Our Lives event! B and I were recruited into helping with traffic safety so we wore city-provided neon green vests and first stood, then walked alongside the marchers, making sure that everyone stayed on the sidewalk and that cars didn't hit anyone. We had over 1300 people and the kids spoke with passion and heart, including some that had come up from Aztec which is 45 minutes from here (and a sports rival). Here's a photo of the gathering afterward:

- Last night we watched John Carter which was ridiculous in so many ways. Mostly we watched it because it was filmed largely in our Utah stomping grounds, and it was fun to recognize e.g. Shiprock and Lake Powell. It was impossible to watch CiarĂ¡n Hinds and James Purefoy in breastplates and greaves without having flashbacks to Rome. Also, the Martian dog-equivalent was my favorite character.
- I have been reading fic for my comment bingo card! So far I have crossed out seven squares. One of them is "the first fic you read in a fandom", which actually is the first fic in its fandom, at least on AO3, and it's awesome and I want to recommend it: A Scrap of Velvet by
scioscribe, which is for Cuckoo Song by Frances Hardinge, and if you're familiar with the book you should go read the fic! It's post-canon and reads like canon, with Trista's discomfort with her own body, the complex relationships among the sisters (new and old,) and the weirdness of the world of the Besiders.
