Surrey is not just participating in the future of health innovation. It is leading it💡 We were incredibly proud to have our Chief Business Officer, Andrea Wharram, represent mlHealth 360 at the Mayor's Forum on Health Care and Innovation. During the "Building a Health Innovation Ecosystem" panel, Andrea highlighted why our region is uniquely positioned for healthtech. Surrey's diverse, high-volume patient population and expanding infrastructure 𝗼𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝗜. At mlHealth 360, we actively contribute to this ecosystem by building 𝗵𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻-𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝗔𝗜, that turns the complexity of radiology into clear, actionable insights for local clinicians. To capitalize on this momentum, Andrea emphasized that innovation requires connective tissue. We need shared data infrastructure, rigorous validation pathways, and health authorities 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗽 𝘂𝗽 𝗮𝘀 𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘆 𝗮𝗱𝗼𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀. Regulation and innovation are not mutually exclusive. By working together to safely pilot technology locally, 𝘄𝗲 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗯𝗮𝘀𝗲 needed to scale globally. It was an honour to represent Surrey Hospitals Foundation and moderate today’s panel on Building a Health Innovation Ecosystem at the Mayor’s Forum on Health Care and Innovation in Surrey. The forum made clear that Surrey is not only well positioned to shape the future of health care, it is actively building the partnerships needed to do so. Participants aligned around a shared goal: strengthening collaboration between health care providers, researchers, educators, industry leaders, government, and community organizations to accelerate innovation and improve patient outcomes and care. Across the day’s discussions on Expanding Access to Care Through City Leadership, Building a Health Innovation Ecosystem, and Advancing Clinical Research and Trials, as well as the keynote address by Ryan C.N. D'Arcy, several key priorities emerged. There was strong agreement on the need to expand access to care, embed research into and across our entire system, increase opportunities for clinical research and trials in Surrey, support the commercialization and adoption of health innovations, and create stronger connections between sectors to attract investment, talent, and new solutions for patients. I was privileged to moderate a discussion with Kirk Fisher (Lark Group), Alice Wong (McKesson Canada), @Paul Adams(KPU Applied Genomics Centre), and Andrea Wharram (mlHealth360) on how partnerships can accelerate innovation and strengthen patient care. The panel highlighted practical ways organizations can work together to move promising ideas into real-world health solutions and ensure innovation delivers measurable benefits for patients and communities. The Surrey Hospitals Health & Research Network is a strong example of this collaborative approach. By bringing together health care, research, education, industry, and philanthropy, the network is helping advance research, support innovation, and expand access to leading-edge care closer to home. Thank you to Mayor Brenda Locke and the City of Surrey and Invest Surrey for convening this important forum, along with all the speakers and participants whose insights helped advance a shared vision for Surrey as a leading centre for health innovation and collaboration. The momentum generated today reflects a city ready to turn ideas into action, expanding access to care, accelerating research, attracting investment, and delivering better outcomes for patients. Surrey is not just participating in the future of health innovation; it is helping lead it.

It’s hard to overstate how exciting Midjourney’s ultrasonic CT announcement is for anyone working in this field. Completely fired up about it. A low cost, radiation free, full body 3D scan in under 60 seconds with incredible soft tissue resolution is a massive win for patient care. And it’s game changing when you think about using the same foundational tech to focus ultrasound to ablate tissue or stimulate nerves non-invasively! At mlHealth 360, we spend every single day developing AI solutions to optimize clinical decision making and improve patient outcomes, and seeing imaging world undergo such a massive parallel evolution is incredibly motivating.
