Succumbing to One’s Surroundings

I was riding the bus yesterday going home, like every afternoon. Full as it were, I had a nice seat to myself watching people crowded inside. Some knew each other and were conversing, others mere strangers were just looking around, at each other or just looking outside. Urban Decay II – The Amphitheater by Lucianus Mauricius

The Amphitheater….

This socialist era amphitheater was build in a park in an area outside the capital together with an artificial lake. It’s been years since any government agency has done anything to restore and preserve this place and so it’s now just a ghost of that era long gone. As you walk in it you have an eerie sensation you’re being watched, perhaps by many people who passed by this place (before it was built) towards their execution. It is said that the surrounding areas have many mass graves yet to be discovered of people who were executed by the regime during the mass purging of 1944-1049 as communists were trying to get rid of any opposition to the than fragile People’s Assembly (first parliament after the war) and National Liberation Front later to be named the Laborer’s Socialist Party of Albania(PPSH) until 1989.
