The 30-second version, with sound.
Four steps, and the first one is a single click in your menu bar.
Press play on a project. The timer survives quits, restarts and sleep.
Rates, currency and payment terms per client. Budgets per project.
Pick a client and a period. Rounding, tax and numbering are done for you.
Letter or A4, with your logo and your own templates. Add fixed fees, a discount or a PO number, preview every page, then email it.
Add fixed fees or expenses, a discount and a PO number, and watch the PDF update as you type. Mark it sent, then paid. Overdue invoices flag themselves.
The menu bar panel shows what's running, today's total and your recent projects. On a MacBook with a notch, the timer sits right beside it.
Each client shows its unbilled hours and their value, with a button that turns them into an invoice.
Save templates with your own title, accent color, font, columns, terms and footer. Give each client its own, and sent invoices keep the look they went out with.
The small things that save an evening at the end of every month.
Round each entry up to 1, 6 or 15 minutes.
Call it VAT, GST or tax, with a default per client.
Each client bills in its own currency.

Sold through polar.sh. The key arrives by email.
Signed and notarized by Apple, so it opens like any other Mac app.
Open HourSlip.dmg and drag HourSlip into Applications.
Launch HourSlip from Applications. It lives in your menu bar, not the Dock.
Click the clock in your menu bar, or beside the notch, and press play on a project.
The same HourSlip, in your system tray. Backups move between Mac, Windows and Linux.
Run HourSlip-Setup.exe. The beta isn't signed with a Windows certificate yet, so SmartScreen may say “Windows protected your PC”: choose More info › Run anyway.
Make it executable with chmod +x HourSlip.AppImage, then run it. It updates itself.
Install with sudo apt install ./hourslip.deb. On GNOME, turn on the AppIndicator extension to see the tray icon.

Read the guide →In HourSlip's sandboxed container on your Mac, or in HourSlip's data folder on Windows and Linux. HourSlip never sends your data anywhere. It only goes online to check your Pro license key with polar.sh and to look for updates on this site. It keeps daily backups for 14 days, and Settings can export a full JSON backup.
Only on your computer, and only a little. To ask about idle time and suggest projects, HourSlip notes when you're at the keyboard and which app is in front. It never records your screen, what you type or window titles. That log stays on your computer for 30 days, is never sent anywhere or included in backups, and Settings → Permissions turns it off or deletes it.
After 10 hours HourSlip offers to stop it 1, 2, 4 or 8 hours after it started. If your Mac sleeps for more than 10 minutes, it asks whether to keep that time.
Yes. Each client has its own currency, rate, payment terms and default tax. One invoice uses one currency.
Yes. Settings imports Toggl Track detailed reports and HourSlip's own CSV, and creates any clients and projects that are missing. The free version imports and restores one client; Pro has no limit.
No. Pro is a single $29 purchase through polar.sh. It unlocks unlimited clients, invoices without the footer and CSV export. Paste the key from your purchase email into the upgrade sheet in HourSlip. One key works on one computer at a time, and you can move it from Settings.
Yes. On the Mac, the disk image and the app are signed with a Developer ID and notarized by Apple, so macOS opens them without warnings. The Windows and Linux builds are made automatically on GitHub's build servers from the same source; Windows shows a SmartScreen prompt the first time because the beta isn't signed with a paid Windows certificate. Updates are checked with their own signature either way.
Yes. HourSlip for Windows and Linux lives in the system tray, keeps the same clients, invoices, templates and PDF layout as the Mac app, and reads Mac backups, so you can move your data between computers. A Pro key works on any of them, one computer at a time.
A Mac with macOS 14 Sonoma or later (Apple silicon or Intel), a 64-bit PC with Windows 10 or 11, or a 64-bit Linux desktop.
Free while in beta. Nothing to sign up for.
