Back on my Heartstopper bullshit!
Aug. 7th, 2023 09:51 pmHeartstopper S2 dropped last Thursday. I marathoned the whole thing in one day (half before lunch, half after) with a friend who was visiting from out of town (...bless my indulgent non-fannish friends), texted about it with Heartstopper-loving friends including
kouredios, and have now watched it again a few eps at a time over the last few days.
I was excited for the new season because I had leftover vid ideas that needed additional source, and I had good reason to think S2 would provide the visuals I needed. And I was right! I was so, so right! Which is exciting! Did I make shrieking noises whenever a clip I could use showed up on screen? I sure did!
I had also forgotten what it's like to be this deeply into a show AND ALSO in vidding mode, which is that EVERY song with a remotely appropriate sound pings as a potential vid. This used to happen so often that I got accustomed to the false positives -- I just let them wash over me, and eventually most of them slipped away and a few would stick. But I've gotten out of the habit, and now it's overwhelming! (Not bad, to be clear. But definitely overwhelming.) It doesn't help that there's been a bunch of Heartstopper-appropriate music on my radar in the last year, so the wave washing over me at the moment is... large.
In fact, a bunch of bands I love ended up on the S2 soundtrack -- including Hatchie, whom I vidded for Heartstopper a year ago. That was another shrieking moment, for sure; the song started and I was like WAIT WHAT I KNOW THIS SONG I LOVE THIS SONG I VIDDED THIS ARTIST FOR THIS SHOW AAAAAAAAAAH. Like that. It was super validating. :D
Anyway! Hi, it's early August which means shit is about to get wild at work and yet here I am thinking about vidsongs and adorable fictional teenagers in love and it is simultaneously distracting me in ways that are likely to become problematic AND improving my life by like 200%. Also, it's five years since the final VividCon and I still miss it, and if you're reading this and thinking "Aww, VividCon!" then I miss you too. ♥
