Blog worth reading.

WATCH.

(Just ONE HUGE reason WHY I'm not a fan of him. Just one.)

I saw this on my dad's blog and had to share it. It made me sick to watch it. HOW is this not murder?! How? How can ANYONE do such a thing to such a pure, heavenly being? It just isn't right.

Now...If you have 5 minutes, I highly suggest you read this talk given by Elder Russel M. Nelson on abortion. It's SUCH a great talk....
(with added commentary by me.)

"As I begin, let me apologize to readers for the use of terms that are not pleasant. The nature of the war to which I’m referring requires such clarity of communication.

As sons and daughters of God, we cherish life as a gift from Him. His eternal plan provides opportunities for His children to obtain physical bodies, to gain earthly experiences, and to realize their divine destinies as heirs of eternal life.1

Death Rates from Wars ( CHECK THIS OUT)

With that understanding and reverence for life, we deplore the loss of life associated with warfare. The data are appalling. In World War I, more than 8 million military fatalities occurred. In World War II, more than 22 million servicemen and women died.2 Together, these two wars, covering portions of 14 years, cost the lives of at least 30 million soldiers worldwide. That figure does not include the millions of civilian casualties.

These data, however, are dwarfed by the toll of another war that claims more casualties annually than did World War I and World War II combined. Worldwide reports indicate that more than 40 million abortions are performed per year.
(Can you BELIEVE that? Sickening isn't it?)

This war called abortion is a war on the defenseless and the voiceless. It is a war on the unborn. This war is being waged globally. Ironically, civilized societies that have generally placed safeguards on human life have now passed laws that sanction this practice.

Divine Doctrine

This matters greatly to us because the Lord has repeatedly declared this divine imperative: “Thou shalt not kill.”4 Then He added, “Nor do anything like unto it.”5 Even before the fulness of the gospel was restored, enlightened individuals understood the sanctity of human life. John Calvin, a sixteenth-century reformer, wrote, “If it seems more horrible to kill a man in his own house than in a field, … it ought surely to be deemed more atrocious to destroy a fÅ“tus in the womb before it has come to light.”

Man-made rules have now legalized that which has been forbidden by God from the dawn of time! Human reasoning has twisted and transformed absolute truth into sound-bite slogans that promote a practice that is consummately wrong.

Special Concerns

Concern for the health of the mother is a vital one. But circumstances in which the termination of pregnancy is necessary to save the life of the mother are very rare, particularly where modern medical care is available. Another concern applies to pregnancies resulting from rape or incest. This tragedy is compounded because an innocent woman’s freedom of choice was denied. In these circumstances, abortion is sometimes considered advisable to preserve the physical and mental health of the mother. Abortions for these reasons are also rare.

Some argue for abortion because of fear that a child may have a congenital malformation. Surely the harmful effects of certain infectious or toxic agents in the first trimester of pregnancy are real, but caution is needed in considering the termination of a pregnancy. Life has great value for all, including those born with disabilities. Furthermore, the outcome may not be as serious as postulated.

I remember well a couple who endured such an experience. The woman was only 21 years old at the time—a beautiful and devoted wife. In her first trimester, she contracted German measles. Abortion was advised because the developing baby would almost surely be damaged. Some members of her family, out of loving concern, applied additional pressure for an abortion. Devotedly, the couple consulted their bishop. He referred them to their stake president, who, after listening to their concern, counseled them not to terminate the life of this baby, even though the child would likely have a problem. He quoted this scripture:

“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

“In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”7

They chose to follow that counsel and allowed their child to be born—a beautiful little girl, normal in every respect, except for total hearing loss. After their daughter’s evaluation at a school for the deaf, the parents were advised that this child had the intellect of a genius. She attended a major university on a scholarship. Now some 40 years later, she enjoys a wonderful life.

To deny life to an individual because of a possible handicap is a very serious matter. Policy consistent with that logic would dictate that those already living with such deficiencies should likewise be terminated. One more step in that tragic train of thought would lead to the conclusion that those who are either infirm or inconvenient should also be eliminated. Such irreverence for life would be totally unthinkable!

Abortion on Demand

Relatively few abortions are performed for the special circumstances to which I have referred. Most abortions are performed on demand to deal with unwanted pregnancies. These abortions are simply a form of birth control.

Elective abortion has been legalized in many countries on the premise that a woman is free to choose what she does with her own body. To an extent this is true for each of us, male or female. We are free to think. We are free to plan. And we are free to do. But once an action has been taken, we are never free from its consequences.

To understand this concept more clearly, we can learn from the astronaut. Anytime during selection or preparation, he or she is free to withdraw from the program. But once the spacecraft has lifted off, the astronaut is bound to the consequences of the previous choice to make the journey.

So it is with people who choose to embark on a journey that leads to parenthood. They have freedom of choice—to begin or not to begin that course. When conception does occur, that choice has already been made.

Yes, a woman is free to choose what she will do with her body. Whether her choice leads to an astronaut’s mission or to a baby, her choice to begin the journey binds her to the consequences of that choice. She cannot “unchoose.”

When the controversies about abortion are debated, “individual right of choice” is invoked as though it were the one supreme virtue. That could only be true if but one person were involved. The rights of any one individual do not allow the rights of another individual to be abused. In or out of marriage, abortion is not solely an individual matter. Terminating the life of a developing baby involves two individuals with separate bodies, brains, and hearts. A woman’s choice for her own body does not include the right to deprive her baby of life—and a lifetime of choices that her child would make.

As Latter-day Saints, we should stand up for choice—the right choice—not simply for choice as a method.

Nearly all legislation pertaining to abortion considers the duration of gestation. The human mind has presumed to determine when “meaningful life” begins. In the course of my studies as a medical doctor, I learned that a new life begins when two special cells unite to become one cell, bringing together 23 chromosomes from the father and 23 from the mother. These chromosomes contain thousands of genes. In a marvelous process involving a combination of genetic coding by which all the basic human characteristics of the unborn person are established, a new DNA complex is formed. A continuum of growth results in a new human being. Approximately 22 days after the two cells have united, a little heart begins to beat. At 26 days the circulation of blood begins.10 To legislate when a developing life is considered “meaningful” is presumptive and quite arbitrary, in my opinion.

Abortion has been legalized by governing entities without regard for God and His commandments. Scriptures state repeatedly that people will prosper only if they obey the commandments of God. (A simple warning) Individuals will prosper only when they walk in faith and obedience to God, who said:

“I, the Lord, … built the earth, my very handiwork; and all things therein are mine.

“And it is my purpose to provide. …

“But it must needs be done in mine own way. …

“For the earth is full, and there is enough and to spare.”12

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has consistently opposed the practice of abortion. (and Obama is FOR it.) More than a century ago, the First Presidency wrote, “We again take this opportunity of warning the Latter-day Saints against those … practices of foeticide and infanticide.”

Early in his presidency President Spencer W. Kimball (1895–1985) said: “We have repeatedly affirmed the position of the Church in unalterably opposing all abortions, except in two rare instances: When conception is the result of forcible rape and when competent medical counsel indicates that a mother’s health would otherwise be seriously jeopardized.” Current policy now includes two other exceptions—incest and if the baby cannot survive beyond birth, as determined by competent medical counsel. Even these exceptions do not justify abortion automatically. It “should be considered only after the persons responsible have consulted with their bishops and received divine confirmation through prayer.”

Adoption

Why destroy a life that could bring great joy to others? (Couldn't have said it better myself.) There are better ways of dealing with an unwanted pregnancy. When a life is created by sinful behavior, the best way to begin personal repentance is to preserve the life of that child. To add another serious sin to a serious sin already committed only compounds the grief. Adoption is a wonderful alternative to abortion. Both the baby and the adoptive parents can be greatly blessed by the adoption of that baby into a home where the child will be lovingly nurtured and where the blessings of the gospel will be available.

Repentance Is Possible

Is there any hope for the person who has participated in the act of abortion? Is there any hope for those who have so sinned and who now suffer heartbreak? The answer is yes! “As far as has been revealed, a person may repent and be forgiven for the sin of abortion.”16 We know the Lord will help all who are truly repentant.17

Life is precious! No one can cuddle an innocent infant, look into those beautiful eyes, feel the little fingers, and kiss that baby’s cheek without a deepening reverence for life and for our Creator. Life comes from life. It is no accident. It is a gift from God. Innocent life is not sent by Him to be destroyed. (Powerful). It is given by Him and is naturally to be taken by Him alone. I testify that life is eternal as He is eternal.

Adoption—A Loving Decision That Blesses the Child

“We … express our support of unwed parents who place their children for adoption in stable homes with a mother and a father. We also express our support of the married mothers and fathers who adopt these children.

“Children are entitled to the blessing of being reared in a stable family environment where father and mother honor marital vows. Having a secure, nurturing, and consistent relationship with both a father and a mother is essential to a child’s well-being. When choosing adoption, unwed parents grant their children this most important blessing. Adoption is an unselfish, loving decision that blesses the child, birth parents, and adoptive parents in this life and throughout the eternities. We commend all those who strengthen children and families by promoting adoption.”

First Presidency statement, Oct. 4, 2006.

Amen Elder Nelson. Amen.
(kinda scary that Obama believes the complete opposite of this talk.)

Tonight

You know... to be honest... I'm not really THAT excited about this season on American Idol. Last season was one of my favorites by FAR. Maybe I'll like it more once they narrow it down to the best singers. I also haven't been blown away by that many singers this season. Most of them haven't impressed me. One of my favorites though would have to be Megan.

She looked absolutely STUNNING last night and I just think she's so beautiful. I also really like her unique voice. I hope she makes it through tonight.

Nathaniel, Nathaniel, Nathaniel.
I have never seen a boy wear a headband before, but whatever.
Nor have I ever seen a boy cry so much on national television.
He's very entertaining to watch, nonetheless.

Danny.
I really like this guy. He has "raw natural talent." He can SING.  He deserves to go far.

Norman Gentle
I'm not really sure what to think of him, but I give him props for being funny.
Good for him for making it this far.
I'd be his friend. He's funny.

Allison
ok, NOT a fan of her style... or her red hair....
but I thought she did an EXCELLENT job last night.
That girl CAN SING. She really can.
Probably one of the best performances I've seen all season.
(Also, not pictured: Kris Allen. I really liked his performance last night too.)
Step back Paula and Kara. I should be a judge on American Idol. :)
David Archuleta is coming to Salt Lake in March.
Please wish me luck asking  Nick to go to his concert with me.
I highly doubt this will happen.
Sigh.

resemblance

Last night on American Idol, Paula Abdul reminded me and Ashley of a Shih tzu.
Just saying.

Chef Heather

Ok, so this picture doesn't do justice.
I know it's not Saint Patrick's day or anything, but it's ALMOST March, and I'm seriously loving the weather outside... I'm in the mood for corned beef and cabbage.
If you've never had this meal before, it's delish.
It's simmering right now as we speak and boy does our house smell good!
( My personal favorite is the cabbage and carrots. If you season it right, they're SO good.)
We are also having red potatoes and lemonade.
I'm feeding 5 other mouths tonight ( I love that CJ and Ashley live in Provo)
We LOVE guests.
While eating this delicious meal tonight, we will be watching American Idol.
YES!

ps. I am SO excited spring is coming! Seriously.

Here is the Recipe:
(Upon Katherine's request)

* get yourself a bag of "Corned Beef" from Costco. ( It's in a bag, but it looks like a pot roast or something.)
* Put corned beef in a large pot, cover beef in water, add the seasoning package the beef comes with, bring it to a boil.
* After corned beef has boiled, lower heat to a simmer. Let beef simmer for 3-4 hours. ( you want the meat tender. The slower it cooks, the better.)
( Also, I chopped 1 yellow onion and threw it in the pot to add flavor.)
* about 45 minutes before you eat... chop up your cabbage ( however you like it... its best to chop it like you were eating a salad.) Then chop up 2-3 carrots ( in slices.)
* Put all these together in a large pan on the stove. Season with Veggie seasoning OR salt, pepper and a little garlic seasoning. ADD BUTTER. It's adds a lot of taste.
*Cook on Low-Medium heat until the cabbage and carrots are tender.
*Also, get about 8-10 red potatoes.
*You can either boil these and season them or cook them in the oven.
This is how I'm doing them:
*Slice each potato ( you know, there should be around 5 or 6 slices per potato)
*Get out a large "cookie" sheet. cover with a thin layer of Olive oil.
*cover pan with potato slices, then season with salt, pepper, garlic seasoning, and a little basil.
Let bake in oven for about 30-40 min.
They should be a little crunchy.
Good luck, Kat face!

I'm trying to be like Jesus

I love, love President Hinckley. I LOVE this story. It really touched my heart. I hope it touched yours.

Today I watched the new movie about Gordon B Hinckley on DVD. WOW. I really enjoyed that. One of the things that touched me when I watched that movie was how loving his mother was. Ada Bitner. I loved that she was ALWAYS teaching her boys. She taught him by example. She loved to read and always read with Gordon. ( I believe this is very important.) I want to read with my children too. I LOVED books when I was a child... I hope mine do too. The thing I loved MOST about his mother though, was that when Gordon would get into trouble, she would teach him and ALWAYS say... " Would Jesus do that?" I decided today that I will ALWAYS use that in our house hold. Our motto will be " I'm trying to be like Jesus," and really work on that. :) I love this gospel!

again

We painted pottery... AGAIN.
I'm telling you, I love it. I wasn't kidding. My mom has been in town for the past week so we went along with Holly, Ali, Ashley and Lance. (Nick was at home studying because he has midterms all next week.) I'm so proud of him for being so responsible. I could tell he wanted to come... ( didn't you guys see the post a while back of the goblet he painted?) He's a natural at this stuff, but he couldn't come. I painted a pie pan this time. I love painting because it's so relaxing and I get to be creative. So much fun.

fresh!

There's NOTHING better than FRESH fruits and vegetables. When I was little, my dad always had a veggie garden. It was SO much fun. I always loved to go outside and help dad water it and plant seeds and pick the fresh foods. It seriously was really fun. I am SO excited spring is coming so I can start on our garden! I want to grow fresh tomatoes, broccoli, zucchini, squash, corn, lettuce, onions, cucumbers, lots and lots of herbs and maybe even some strawberries! Oh i'm SO excited I can hardly wait! How cool will that be to  just go outside and pick it all and use it for dinners! It will be something really fun for Nick and I do to together. I'll keep y'all posted!

For EVER, There has only been In-N-Outs in California, a couple in Vegas, maybe in Arizona, and one in St. George, Utah. I heard on the news today that In-N-Out will be opening a joint here in the Salt Lake Valley ( Draper) ... which is ONLY 20 min away from us. They also have plans to open In-N-Outs in Layton and OREM. ( That's where we live!) What wonderful news! Looks like I'm gonna have to start using my Golds Gym pass once again. haha.
I'd like a #2, no onions, with a chocolate shake please.

VERY touching...

“If I Had My Child To Raise Over Again”

If I had my child to raise over again.
I’d build self-esteem first and the “rest” later.
I’d finger paint with them more, and “point-the-finger” less
I would do less “correcting” and more “connecting”
I’d take my eyes off my watch, and watch more with my eyes
I would care to know less, and know to care more
I’d take them on more hikes and fly with them more kites
I’d stop playing seriously and start serious play
I’d run through more fields and point out more stars
I’d do more hugging and less tugging
I’d compliment much more and comment much less
I would be firm less often and affirm much more.
I’d ponder less about the love of power
....and more about the power of love.
Diane Loomans

I hope I'm THAT kind of a mom.

( a story my dad showed me. Thanks dad, for all you do. You're the best. Love you!)

party in the libary

You know those people you hear about that go to the library to  pick up on guys? or girls?( does that really happen? really?)
Well... we marrieds LOVE to go to the library to find our dear married friends there too.
This all started about a month ago when Nick would randomly see Steven or Melinda in the library. They always sat at different tables... and then finally started to sit together at the SAME table... EVERY day. Luckily, I usually have a lot of homework, and I'm always So excited to go to BYU to sit by Nick and study. Well, NOW, we get to sit by Steven and Melinda too. They're a lot of fun. Especially when Melinda sneezes.... or when Steven takes a nap on the soft chairs behind us. ( were there for HOURS.) We also enjoy it because we trade snacks with each other. For example, I'll bring cheeze its and string cheese... and they'll bring swedish fish, pop tarts, or great harvest bread. I'll occasionally bring suckers or reeces. They have been very helpful because when I can't be there, and I can't get ahold of Nick... I know I can text Steven or Melinda and they will get ahold of him for me. :) Surprisingly, we still get a lot of studying done. We always look for excuses to hang out with those guys, and what's more perfect than hanging out at the BYU library.? Haha. I love it cause when I talk to Steven or Melinda, they always say " Ok, see you at the Library tomorrow!" or " Are you gonna be at the Library?" Or my favorite is when I get e-mails from Melinda that say, " Heather, are you coming to the Library today? Steven or Nick isn't here... and there are 3 empty chairs by me and I look like a loser! Are you coming?!" ( haha. She's obviously kidding. She makes me laugh.)
SO, yes... I've known Steven and Melinda for quite some time now, but we have now become permanent library buddies. I've loved it too because they have gotten to know Nick and we all have become good friends. So hurry up you single friends of ours! Get married... and come join us in the library! It's a party.
I documented our library experience for you. Don't worry, I turned the flash off. :)

it's coming

SPRING is coming... I can feel it in the air.
This morning I woke up to birds chirping by my window. It's been SO long sense I've heard that lovely sound.
It's coming guys.
Snow is only good for ONE thing... snowboarding... and I've only been once this season. :(
Go away snow!
I'm dreaming of volleyball and bonfires up the canyon... and riding my bike around town while eating an ice cream cone.
It just won't come fast enough...

Festival of Colors 2009

Last year, we went to the Festival Of Colors in Spanish Fork. It was an absolute riot. We had a blast. You better BELIEVE I'm going again.... I'm excited to bring my dear husband along this time. It's coming up next month, (March 28th) so mark your calendars.

Here's what it's about:

"In India Holi announces the arrival of spring and the passing of winter. It is a festival that breathes an atmosphere of social merriment. People bury their hatchets with a warm embrace and throw their worries to the wind. Every nook and corner presents a typically colorful sight. Young and old alike are covered with colors (red, green, yellow, blue, black and silver). People in small groups are seen singing, dancing and throwing colors on each other.

There will be musical interludes, the lighting of a bonfire, burning of an effigy, and the throwing of dry colors on friends and foe alike. The dry powders supplied by the temple are non stain, but still guests are cautioned not to wear their “Saturday Best.”

I really think they love the fact that half of Brigham Young University  shows up to this event every year. I just love to go because I can REALLY practice my photography skills and get some awesome shots of all the rediculously colored, bright people everywhere. I don't know about all the "throwing my worries into the wind" by throwing dyed flour orediel... but it's a lot of fun nonetheless.

Here's some pictures from last March:

hearts and arrows

I hope everyone had a wonderful valentines day. Nick is SO dang cute! Seriously. Single girls out there.... my best advise to you would be to find someone like my husband. I woke up this morning to a delicious breakfast he made for me. Wait- it gets better. He dyed everything PINK. Isn't that cute? We had pink pancakes and pink scrambled eggs and strawberry milk. Very cute of him. He also surprised me a with a beautiful necklace. I LOVE it. Especially because HE picked it out. It meant a lot to me. We spent the whole day together just hanging out. It was nice because we rarely get to do that. We then went out with the missionaries for an hour.. We've been working with this beautiful family, and were super excited because they're progressing! They're coming to church tomorrow and we are thrilled. After that, Nick took me to the Tango House. ( A nice little Argentine joint.) That was cute of him too. To top the night off, he knew I have been wanting to see He's Just Not That Into You.... so he got tickets ahead of time. I was so excited to see it...... and I was disappointed, actually. It was really raunchy and I HATE how the world views marriage and how they take it so lightly. I HATE adultery and how it goes on so much in the world. This movie had A LOT of that. I also can't believe how movies now days causally say the F word, show nudity, and have lots of inappropriate scenes. VERY unnessesary. What ever happened to good wholesome movies like Anne of Green Gables or The Sound of Music? I'd watch those ANY day over most movies they're making now. PG-13 movies should really be rated R now days. Seriously. It scares me for when I have kids. I just had a gross feeling through out the movie He's Just Not That Into You. If you want to see it... don't.

If you want LOVE ADVISE.... just watch this. I love Jeffery R. Holland.

We love...

...to play games!
That's right. If we're not studying, we find ourselves playing games... especially on the weekends... and we never get sick of it! Some of our favorites lately have been:
Rook, Monopoly, Dominos, Catch Phrase, Signs, Nerts, and Hoopla.
Try em out! You'll get hooked too.
I love games.

He's finally moving up here!

CHRISTIAN JAMES COSLETT

I can't believe the day is finally here. My little brother, CJ, graduated high school a bit early, and he's finally moving up to Utah! He and my mom are driving ( as we speak) from Texas to Provo. I seriously can't believe he's already 18 and about to leave for his mission in a few months! So crazy! Ashley and I couldn't be more thrilled to have our little brother up here with us! I bet my parent's can't believe they only have one more kid left at home ( Celeste is already a sophomore in high school.) My little brother and sister are growing up like crazy! This post is dedicated to my dear brother, Christian James. Let's look at a few pictures, shall we?

( He's mostly excited to come to Utah to snowboard with Dave. Haha... this picture cracks me up.... we were at thanksgiving point looking at the pretty gardens... and of course, the boys can't just be normal... the had to push each other on the wheel chair going as fast as they could down the path ways...)

( ahhh... my bike. I can't WAIT to ride it.)

( I'm REALLY gonna miss watching him play. He's played since he was 6 years old... hopefully he'll play in college too.)

( HOME in Texas)

( the younger years. Mom, why did you dress me in that awful dress and over sized bow? Also, dad is gangsta.)

( the siblings)

Welcome to college life, CJ!
Love you.

can't decide

I have to take something back I got for Christmas... and I need to decided between these two dresses! I can't seem to decide! I'm leaning more towards the quarter length one... but the other one is darling! Which one do y'all like best?

( ps- don't worry, there will be something underneath the dress to cover up a bit. :)
