    This support group is for children who are coping with the diagnosis of a loved one with cancer. The group will focus on exploring different feelings and on developing strategies to cope with them.

    The series runs in person,  weekly for 6 sessions, beginning on Monday, January 26.

    Children between the ages of 6-8 are welcome.

    This 8 session, in-person, weekly support group is for adults who have lost a loved one to cancer.  The group will provide both educational and emotional support through reflection and group discussions.

    It is available for those who have been bereaved for at least three months.

    This support group offers support for the caregiver as they care for their loved ones. Caregivers will develop a wealth of self-care tools to reduce personal stress, change negative self-talk, communicate their needs to family members and healthcare providers, deal with difficult feelings and make tough caregiver decisions.

    Walk Club Series

    Hearth Place is happy to be offering a Walk Club Series on an indoor track in the community, for a 13-week series beginning on Wednesday, February 4th, from 10 - 11:00am.

    Walking has long been known to be a beneficial activity for both physical and emotional health. The social aspect of joining others for a walk is also important, to say nothing of the positive effects on our bodies.

    We are delighted to be able to bring this to our members throughout the winter, so that you can walk safely and in a comfortable environment.

    Walk Club is not a drop-in group; advance registration is required and a waiver must be signed.

    This program provides patients with metastatic cancer the opportunity to meet with other metastatic cancer patients. In a supportive and non-threatening setting, sessions focus on discussion and sharing of feelings and concerns regarding unique issues that can be triggered by this diagnosis. Through participation in this program patients may find comfort and reassurance and improve their ability to cope with the roller-coaster of emotions and re-entry into the medical system.

    This group meets weekly on Wednesdays, from 12:30-2:30pm.

    Healing Journey Level 3: Steps Toward Spiritual Healing

    This nine session program furthers your healing journey by teaching you the basics of spiritual connection.  Questions considered include “Who am I, really?” and “How can I find meaning in my life’s circumstances?”.  Meditation, journaling, thought watching and self-reflection are all examined as avenues to inner peace.

    Prerequisite: Healing Journey Levels 1 and 2.  Repeat participants are welcome!

Yoga mats, blocks and other equipment are provided.

    This 8-week exercise program is designed to help you regain and maintain your range of motion, build core strength and enhance physical fitness. All routines taught in Do It With Ease are designed for those who have had cancer surgery, node dissection, radiation, chemotherapy, or who deal with cancer-related chronic fatigue. Designed and led by a physiotherapist.

    Note that an Exercise Consent Form, signed by a doctor or nurse practitioner, must be provided prior to the start of the series for all participants.

    Learn to manage the appearance-related impact of cancer treatment at this in-person workshop.  Join a supportive community in a small-group format to learn make-up tips, hair alternatives, skin care practices and cosmetic hygiene.

    Workshops are run on the 3rd Tuesday morning of the month, except for December, which is on the 2nd Tuesday.

    The benefits of pole-walking for the lymphedema community have been recently highlighted in research studies. In this 7-week series, we will learn about these benefits, and how to be properly fitted for walking poles. We will learn how to use them as we walk together in the Oshawa community.
