Poem
Julie’s Cafe by Goff James
Castle door ancient creaks.
Stone walls whisper tales untold.
Museum grand, paintings and antiques.
As one deeper dives, a softer scene unfolds.
Beyond the foyer’s echoing space,
Nestled rearward, hid from sight.
Julie’s Café, a welcoming place.
A pleasant haven bright.
Warmth swoons from the open door.
A place to rest, a tranquil shore.
I follow the sound, a tapestry spun,
A joyous song, a gentle hum,
Fragments of voices, laughter, fun,
A mushrooming, harmonious sum.
Blurred notes that rise and softly bend,
Playful whimsies, taking flight,
Muted whispers, sweetly blend,
Spilling out, into the light.
The corridor narrows, draws me near,
Then the scent…a symphony clear.
Coffee’s deep, dark, rich allure,
Freshly baked scones golden beam,
Cakes filled with promises, pure,
Strawberry jam and clotted cream
Sandwiches, cheese and ham, made to greet.
Toast and beans, jacket potatoes, piping glow,
Salads on china plates laid out neat.
Soup steaming warmly a comfort to know,
Lollipops, ice creams, bubble gums and sweets
Lemonades and many other children’s treats.
A fresh scone purchased and a coffee small.
Then, off with my coat and hat from the day.
In a corner anew, I settle and sprawl
And share in the chatter where leisure holds sway.
