Description
Summary
- 2016 edition used in HES
- UK specific modifications of WHO 2016 edition
- Edition created in 2016 available on TRUD, but no updates since
- Updates published in NCCS documents and a graphical browser is available
- Subset of WHO 2019 used in ONS Deaths (we believe, but may have/be moving to ICD 11?)
- 2019 is most recent edition loaded into OpenCodelists
- There are meaningful differences between 2016 and 2019
- One user reports upload of codelist containing 2016 codes gets rejected
- Upload of codelists for GBD project affected
- There may be under-ascertainment in EHR analyses if codelists created using 2019 edition are used against datasets coded using 2016 edition
What did you do and what did you expect to happen?
As a researcher, I want to be able to use the correct release/edition of ICD 10 for the datasets I'm using in my study.
Impact of the bug
- Current ICD 10 codelists (n~=1300) may be missing codes that are present in 2016 edition but not 2019 which results in under-ascertainment when used against HES datasets. Conversely, codes included in codelists that are present in 2019 edition but not 2016 edition will never match data in HES.
- Users cannot upload codelists that contain codes present in ICD 10 2016 but not ICD 2019
