In the latest edition of Raffles 1887, Jonathan Della Lunga, Bar Manager at Le Royal Monceau - Raffles Paris, considers the question through the Swimming Pool cocktail, his newest creation inspired by the hotel’s 23 metre indoor pool and David Hockney’s celebrated Californian pool paintings. This creative concoction combines Macallan 12 Years Old with kumquat cordial and toasted pine nut orgeat, before milk punch clarification creates its crystal clear finish. Even the bespoke glass takes its form from the pool itself. Part of the hotel’s Room of Vision menu, Swimming Pool joins eight cocktails inspired by distinctive spaces throughout Le Royal Monceau. A new chapter at Raffles Hotel Singapore is taking shape one frame at a time. We are delighted to welcome acclaimed Singaporean graphic novelist, author and artist Sean Lam as the fifth Writer in Residence of the Raffles Writer’s Residency programme, bringing a new visual dimension to a programme celebrating contemporary literary voices since 2019. Created during his residency, Raffles Hotel: The Grande Dame and the Waving Blade transports readers to Singapore in 1902, bringing the hotel’s kitchens, stables, verandahs and halls to life through vivid illustration and historical research.
