[PRESS] AT THE BOUNDARIES OF WAKEFULNESS AND DREAMING 🧠 Recent research suggests that dream-like mental experiences can emerge while the brain is still in a waking state, blurring the conventional boundaries between conscious thought and oneiric activity. 📰 In an article published by ZME Science, Delphine Oudiette, co-lead of the “DreamTeam” team at the Paris Brain Institute, presents findings from a study exploring the mental states that arise during sleep onset. Based on recordings of brain activity and subjective reports collected at the transition into sleep, the work highlights the coexistence of wake-like thinking and dream-like experiences. 💡 These findings open new perspectives for understanding the mechanisms of sleep, consciousness, and certain clinical conditions such as insomnia. 👉 Read the full article: https://lnkd.in/ebZrmxmY #Neuroscience #Research

📅 3rd Symposium: Connection Between Physics and Metabolism in Brain Functions 🧠⚛️ 👉 Register now and join us in Barcelona! https://lnkd.in/eHjZrgZ5 In a joint initiative between Barcelona Children's Hospital Sant Joan de Déu and the Institut du Cerveau – Paris Brain Institute, Drs A. Garcia-Cazorla and Fanny Mochel invite you to Barcelona 🇪🇸—a city that has, over recent decades, established itself as one of Europe’s leading hubs for science, biotechnology and health. Previous editions have explored topics ranging from mechanotransduction—the mechanical forces shaping brain development—to the physics of neurotransmission, spatial mechanotranscriptomics and, ultimately, a pioneering vision of mechanomedicine. This year's symposium will continue to push the boundaries, exploring how physical principles underpin brain metabolism and function. 📅 9 October 2026 📍 Barcelona, Spain 🎓 Travel Scholarships Available This year, eligible participants have the opportunity to apply for a travel scholarship. A limited number of scholarships are available and include: • Economy-class return travel • One night's accommodation (up to four-star standard), subject to travel itinerary and transport availability 📩 To apply, please send your CV and a motivation letter to neurometab.bio.master@gmail.com ⏳ Application deadline: Sunday, 23 August 2026, 23:59 CEST (Spanish time) https://lnkd.in/ertWKYfZ A. [PRESS] JUST A FEW BRAIN CELLS CAN CAUSE EPILEPSY: MOSAICISM! 🧬 Our cells do not always share exactly the same genetic information. This phenomenon, known as mosaicism, occurs when genetic mutations are present in only a small proportion of cells. In the brain, these cellular differences can sometimes contribute to the development of certain forms of epilepsy. 🎥 In a video published by Epilepsy Sparks, Dr. Stéphanie Baulac, head of the « MOSAIC team » at the Paris Brain Institute, explains how genetic mosaicism can affect only a limited number of brain cells and lead to focal cortical dysplasia (FCD), a form of epilepsy caused by abnormal development of the cerebral cortex. By studying these genetic variations, her research is helping to improve our understanding of the mechanisms underlying epilepsy and could contribute to the development of more targeted therapeutic approaches in the future. 👉 Discover the video: https://lnkd.in/eeiwHg68 #Neuroscience #Research

[PRESS] REDEFINING UNDERREPRESENTATION IN GLOBAL NEUROSCIENCE 🧠 Building a more diverse scientific community requires looking beyond demographic categories alone. Structural barriers—such as limited mobility, language, unequal access to research funding or being the first in a family to pursue higher education—can also shape researchers' careers and opportunities. 🎙️ In an article published by The Transmitter, Violetta Zujovic, co-head of the « MIND » team at the Paris Brain Institute and member of the ALBA Network, explores why underrepresentation in neuroscience should be understood not only through demographic characteristics, but also through the structural barriers that can shape scientific careers. 👉 Read the full article: https://lnkd.in/dMp6WEJY #Neuroscience #Research
