Can a country reduce its dependence on oil... only to become dependent on AI? The Gulf states are investing massively in artificial intelligence, cloud computing and data centres to prepare for the post-oil era. But here's the paradox: As economies become more digital, they may reduce one form of dependency while creating entirely new ones. Dependence on foreign semiconductors. Dependence on global cloud providers. Dependence on highly specialised talent. Dependence on critical digital infrastructure. Today, data centres, subsea cables and cloud networks are becoming just as strategic as ports, pipelines and power grids. And unlike traditional infrastructure, digital dependencies can be harder to see until they become a vulnerability. For businesses, this raises an important question: When assessing country risk, should digital infrastructure now be considered as strategically important as energy infrastructure? The Gulf's AI ambitions offer a fascinating case study of how economic diversification is evolving and how risk itself is changing. 💬 What's your view? What do you see as the biggest long-term risk for countries racing to become AI hubs: technology dependence, talent shortages, resource constraints, cybersecurity, or something else? Are US tariffs becoming the new normal for global trade? Many businesses were expecting the end of temporary US tariffs to bring some relief. Instead, Washington has introduced new duties of 10% to 12.5% on 60 countries, covering 99% of US goods imports. The change is not just about tariffs themselves. It's about what it signals: trade measures that were initially presented as temporary are evolving into a more durable framework. And with new investigations already targeting sectors such as aerospace, drones, robotics, medical equipment and critical minerals, uncertainty remains a key business challenge. As Marcos CARIAS, PhD, North America Economist at Coface, notes: "The risk of US tariffs remains high, even when a measure is due to expire." For exporters, manufacturers and supply chain leaders, tariff developments are no longer just a policy issue. They increasingly influence sourcing decisions, investment plans and risk management strategies. What impact do you think prolonged tariff uncertainty has on business decision-making? Do companies adapt and move on, or does this environment slow investment and growth? 👉 Read our analysis: https://lnkd.in/eNzsSSr7

𝐂𝐨𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐇𝟏‑𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐬 Coface confirms its strong start to the year, reporting net income of €107.8m and an annualised RoATE of 10.9%.   📊 Turnover reached €939.3m, up +0.8% at constant FX and perimeter, supported by resilient client activity (+1.5%) despite a challenging economic environment. 🤝 Client retention remained at a high level of 93.6%, while pricing was slightly negative at -1.3% in a still competitive market. 🧩 Non-insurance activities grew +8.8% to €88.6m, driven by Information Services (+12.0% at constant FX, +19.1% including Cedar Rose), Debt Collection (+31.6%) and Factoring (+3.5%). 🛡️ Profitability remained robust with a net combined ratio of 71.3%, while the net loss ratio improved to 37.4%, down 2.7 percentage points year-on-year.   𝐇𝐚𝐥𝐟𝐰𝐚𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐢𝐭𝐬 𝐏𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐜 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐧, 𝐂𝐨𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐡𝐚𝐬 𝐚𝐥𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐲 𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐝 𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐨𝐟 𝐢𝐭𝐬 𝐦𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐮𝐦-𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐦 𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐭𝐬.   Building on this strong performance, the Group has decided to prioritise long-term growth in Information Services and continued investment over its initial objective of a 50bps contribution from Business Information to RoATE by 2027.   This strategic choice reflects Coface's conviction that accelerating investment today will create greater value over the long term. To maintain its commitment to shareholder returns, the Group intends to compensate for this change through an enhanced 2027 distribution policy, representing approximately four additional payout points, equivalent to the value that would have been delivered by the original 50bps objective.   Full report here: https://lnkd.in/eMhiPq7F

Energy is reshuffling the deck in South-East Asia. In its latest Risk Review, Coface has downgraded the risk assessment for five economies in the region: Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Vietnam and Cambodia. The reason: the energy shock originating in the Middle East. Rising transport and production costs, persistent inflation, pressure on margins, weakened currencies and tighter financing conditions: the business environment is becoming increasingly complex. South-East Asia retains strong assets, but external risks are weighing more heavily on the region’s outlook. The lull in geopolitical tensions masks a more critical reality: the economic shock is well and truly underway. In the video from our latest Risk Review, Jean-Christophe Caffet, Chief Economist at Coface, shares his analysis and puts into perspective the early warning signs that are already reshaping the business environment. In just a few minutes, this presentation provides a clear overview to help you make decisions: 📍A global economy that is holding up… but clearly slowing down, with forecasts revised downward 📍Supply chains under strain once again, weighing on costs, lead times, and margins 📍a shock spreading across all regions, with impacts now being felt by businesses A useful overview—but one that’s intentionally incomplete. Because today, understanding isn’t enough: you have to anticipate and make quick decisions. 👉 To go further and analyze country and sector trends in detail: https://ow.ly/SAt850Zg77o

Shorter payment terms. More late payments. That’s the paradox Latin American companies are facing right now. In a tougher economic environment, businesses are tightening credit to protect cash. Yet nearly 8 out of 10 companies still report payment delays. 👉 Average payment terms are shrinking (56 days) 👉 Delays are becoming more frequent 👉 Cash flow pressure is rising across the region What does it tell us?
