Fandom: Due South
Characters/Pairings: Benton Fraser/Ray Kowalski
Rating: Explicit
Length: 8k

Speranza
Theme: Secret Identities, Fandom Classics
Summary: "I adjusted my itinerary with the hope of perhaps catching Ray Vecchio. Or the person we have come to call Ray Vecchio. Who is not that person," I said, pointing toward the door. "That person," I added acidly, "calls me 'sweetie.'"
Reccer's Notes: A true classic of Due South fandom, this fic takes the premise of the opening episode of Season Three (Fraser returns to Chicago to discover that his partner has been replaced by a stranger whom everyone else insists is his partner while his partner has gone undercover with the mob) and runs in a very different direction. I loved the eventual consummation of Fraser and RayK's star-crossed love, of course, but the true heart of the fic lies in the community network that Fraser has built up over the years in Chicago: all the people he's helped, who are in turn eager to help him when he needs them. It's a really lovely story.
