Extras sold with the ticket

Extras are a paid feature.

An extra is something you sell with the ticket rather than as one: a glass of champagne on arrival, a parking space, a programme, a seat at the dinner after. It has a price and a stock of its own, and it is added to the same bill.

Making one

Name and Description are what the customer reads. Keep the description short — it is shown under the name and cut to two lines.

Picture is optional and comes from the media library.

Price is per one of them. An extra is not taxed differently from the ticket it is sold beside; your tax rules apply to the whole order.

Where it is offered

Offered on takes events, categories, or nothing at all.

  • Leave both empty and the extra is on sale on every event. That is what a parking space usually wants to be.
  • Name events, and it is offered on those.
  • Name categories, and it is offered on every event filed under them.

How many there are

Two limits, and you may set either, both, or neither.

Limit per date : A capacity. Fifty parking spaces tonight, and fifty again tomorrow. Counted separately for each date of a series.

Limit in total : An inventory. Two hundred programmes printed once, which run out for good across every date and every event.

Set both and whichever runs out first is the one that binds.

Nothing is stored as a counter. What is left is worked out from the bookings that sold it, so a cancelled booking hands its stock back without anyone remembering to, and two numbers can never drift apart.

How many one booking may take

Least per booking and Most per booking bound a single order.

A least of 1 or more makes the extra required: the step says so, and a booking that leaves it out is refused. Use it for a dinner every guest is expected to attend.

Leave the least at 0 and the extra is optional.

What the customer sees

A step of its own in the booking form, between the tickets and their details. Each extra is a row: picture, name, price, and a stepper. A row that has run out says Sold out; one that is nearly gone says how many are left.

The number in the box is already capped by the stock, so the form cannot offer what the booking would then refuse.

Taking one at the desk

Editing a booking in the admin, the Extras tab offers the same list, with what the booking already holds already chosen. The stock it is holding is credited back to it, so a booking that took the last two can still be saved.

Where they turn up afterwards

  • On the order, as their own lines
  • On the invoice
  • In the booking's Extras tab
  • In emails, through the {{extras_list}} and {{extras_total}} keywords
