Milestone: We're connected to Sydney's water supply! A major milestone has been reached on the Prospect Pre-Treatment Plant project, with the successful completion of a complex 'cut-in' connecting the new pre-treatment plant to the existing Prospect Water Filtration Plant, which supplies drinking water to around 85 per cent of Sydney's population. The work involved carefully cutting into a live, critical water main and installing a new connection, all while ensuring uninterrupted water supply to the community. Once operational in late 2027, the new plant will strengthen the resilience and performance of Sydney's drinking water system, helping respond to increasingly challenging raw water conditions caused by extreme weather, including storms, droughts and bushfires in the Warragamba Dam catchment and surrounding areas. This complex work was delivered safely and successfully by the SUEZ ACCIONA Joint Venture, in close collaboration with Sydney Water, WaterNSW, and Prospect Water Partnership. #ACCIONAteam #BusinessAsUnusual #SustainableInfrastructure

Watch us close the lid on a 4-million-litre tank The SUEZ-ACCIONA Joint Venture has reached a key milestone in the delivery of Sydney Water’s Prospect Pre-treatment Plant, successfully installing the dome lid on the first of two thickened sludge tanks. Together, the two tanks will provide a total storage capacity of 8,000 cubic metres of thickened sludge removed from Sydney’s raw water supply through the new treatment process. This additional capacity strengthens the plants resilience, providing up to five days of storage during periods when sludge disposal sites are not accessible. The installation marks another important step in delivering this critical infrastructure project and reflects the careful planning, collaboration and expertise of teams across the site. Delivered safely and efficiently, this complex heavy lift showcases the strong coordination and commitment of everyone involved. Hay un niño en Bilbao que ya no tiene miedo cuando llueve. Su padre, Javier Carmona Zabalo, dirige el saneamiento de la ciudad. En el colegio, cuando salían las inundaciones que veían en las noticias, el niño aprendió a responder: "Yo estoy tranquilo, porque mi padre trabaja para que la ciudad no se inunde". Esa frase cuenta, mejor que cualquier dato, lo que hemos intentado explicar durante los últimos meses. Bajo Bilbao hay 740 kilómetros de red de saneamiento, buena parte con más de un siglo de historia, en un valle cerrado donde el mar, la lluvia y la ría se lo ponen difícil. Hoy esa red ya no reacciona: se anticipa. Un gemelo digital construido sobre la tecnología de Autodesk Water Infrastructure —InfoWorks ICM e ICMLive—, operado por ACCIONA e impulsado por el Ayuntamiento de Bilbao, permite prever el comportamiento del agua con hasta 24 horas de antelación. 350.000 personas viven un poco más seguras gracias a algo que casi nunca verán.
