Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) provide energy efficiency information and specifications, such as floor area and materials used, for a dwelling. Official EPCs can be downloaded from the Scottish EPC Register. See further information about EPCs on the Scottish Government website.
The source data for this service has been downloaded from data.gov.scot. The service contains data for certificates from start of record (Q1 2008) to Q2 2026.
The dataset contains two UPRNs (unique property reference numbers). A 10-digit identifier generated by Scottish Energy Performance Certificate Register and a 9-12-digit identifier generated by local authorities and recorded by the One Scotland Gazetteer. If using any of these, see which fields these map to for each endpoint in documentation.
Note: Certificates are only valid for 10 years. To check validity compare inspection date field (e.g. inspection-field) with today's date.
The /ew-compatible endpoint aims to mimic the now old England and Wales API for domestic EPC certificate search. See the API documentation for the transformations.
We are currently creating a relatively interoperable API for the new England and Wales API, so watch this space. This will surface more information from Scottish EPCs that the current API had to drop to enable interoperation.
The whole transformed dataset can be downloaded in CSV format following the link below (note: use your API key to authenticate):
This service also provides statistics endpoints for numeric values at various H3 resolutions. These enable visually answering questions such as:
See the map on the Example page for answers to these questions.
H3 indexing required enriching the EPC data with National Statistics Postcode Lookup (May 2026) for the UK data from the Office for National Statistics.
This service can be used by obtaining an API key and following the guidance in documentation. By using the service you agree to the terms and conditions.
