Etymology

From Byzantine Greek σπέρνω, from Ancient Greek σπείρω (speírō) with metaplasm in the pattern of φέρω (phérō) > φέρνω (férno), or σύρω (súrō) > σέρνω (sérno, drag).[1][2]
