No problem as things stand - I had no particular intention to use any of the other synopses (some of them written by me, BTW!), and I imagine that Kleinzach would want to get the permission of the author if/when any such occasion arises. As for OTRS, I know less than nothing about it - could you make any necessary links, perhaps in collaboration with User:Moonriddengirl. Best. --GuillaumeTell 13:50, 9 July 2009 (UTC)

Is a cleanup possible?
Hi, Shoemaker. I was wondering if it was possible to clean up the sound on , or even if it was worth it. It's the only known episode to survive of a radio show from the 30s, and it has fallen into the public domain. The accompanying article is an FA, and I'd like this file to be, too. Also, would it stand a chance of being promoted at WP:FSC, cleaned or "dirty"? Thanks, Matthewedwards : Chat 04:39, 10 July 2009 (UTC)
- OK, thanks. There's no hugh rush so if you have other commitments it can wait. Matthewedwards : Chat 04:49, 10 July 2009 (UTC)
I have another Q on something unrelated. When a composer has written/recorded/published a piece of music before 1923, and then it has been re-recorded/reinterpreted/covered after 1923, is that recording copyrightable or is it PD because it's all about the state of the original work? Matthewedwards : Chat 04:52, 10 July 2009 (UTC)

Since you're a major contributor to it, thought you should know there has been talkpage talk of formally proposing it be made policy. So if you have any final edits or comments, now would be a good time. --Cybercobra (talk) 06:59, 14 July 2009 (UTC)

WikiCup participates in the Wikipedia:The Great Wikipedia Dramaout
Hello all, iMatthew here. I just wanted to let you know about "The Great Wikipedia Dramaout" which starts this Saturday. The goal of the Dramaout is to spend five days working on improving articles and abstaining from any of Wikipedia's drama. I don't think that any of you will have a problem focusing on articles for five days, because of course, any work you get done during the Dramaout will count towards your score in the WikiCup. Details are on the page; hope to see you all signing up! :) iMatthew talk at 00:27, 17 July 2009 (UTC)

Mannatech Article
Hello Shoemaker's Holiday, just wanted to touch base with you. I have reverted your edit you made today to the Mannatech article; for some reason you had removed a few months of edits including a major clean-up and improvement I and others have been working on (adding the company logo, organizing all the public scrutiny into separate sub-sections, etc). FYI, I am not affiliated with Mannatech at all. Let's talk if you have any objections to my revert. Have a good day.prhartcom (talk) 12:03, 19 July 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks for your reponse (on my page); I definately know what you mean about this article; I have seen many attempts to add marketing content. I keep an eye on it frequently for that reason. I have, I believe, improved it quite a bit in the last few months so I do appreciate it if we talk before you remove any of those improvements. Have a good day.prhartcom (talk) 12:40, 19 July 2009 (UTC)

Re: ANI post
If you refuse to withdraw a harmful accusation when only oversighters can see the full truth of the matter, I believe that this is necessary. Wikipedia:Administrators'_noticeboard/Incidents#User:Stephen_Bain —Preceding unsigned comment added by Shoemaker's Holiday (talk • contribs)
- The page is merely deleted, not oversighted, any administrator can view the revisions. As for the amendment request, you will have to await the other arbitrators' views if mine do not suit. --bainer (talk) 14:00, 23 July 2009 (UTC)
- No, some of the revisions - including most of the outing of me - was oversighted, before the deletion of the page was considered. If you're basing your accusation on the events on the post-oversighting page, then you are not really looking into the situation. Shoemaker's Holiday (talk) 14:41, 23 July 2009 (UTC)
- I have blocked Arion 3x3 (talk · contribs) indefinitely as an emergency measure, after what I deemed to be his attempted outing of another editor at the current arbitration he is involved in. I was approached privately by both Filll and Durova, who noticed it, 'and decided it was worthy of oversight. In my opinion, whether or not his hunch is correct (which I cannot confirm) the fact that he was trying to out the real name of someone who had explicitly left the project due to the publicity of his real name is troubling. Sorry if this all sounds cryptic, but it's hard to say much, given the circumstances. I would like us to have a discussion now whether the indefinite block should be made permanent, or how to react. Dmcdevit·t 03:31, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
- Shoemaker's Holiday (talk) 14:50, 23 July 2009 (UTC)
- Three edits were oversighted, two made by User:Arion 3x3 and one by another uninvolved user whose edit contained the same contents as those two. Your edits, the ones we are talking about, were not oversighted but deleted, and can be viewed by any administrator. --bainer (talk) 15:14, 23 July 2009 (UTC)
- We are not just talking about mine, since you are making the accusation that I am mostly, or equally at fault for outing, when mine was accidental and non-identifying, and theirs was an edit warred harassment campaign. Shoemaker's Holiday (talk) 15:31, 23 July 2009 (UTC)

If you're talking about the passage I removed as unsourced but subsequently replaced and added the correct supporting ref, the page linked to in the ref was evidently the wrong one and didn't support the statement, although it was from the same collection of documents. I really don't think the voting rules should be changed back and forth just because there are changes in the number of reviewer visits from time to time. Better would be to drum up support for more reviewers. What about a template that displays links to the nomination sections, which people could then put on their talk page (and those of the relevant WikiProjects)?
The voting rules, I believe, should not include the obvious vote of the nominator (or worse, joint nominators). Tony (talk) 01:08, 23 August 2009 (UTC)
FPC Closures
Hey, thanks for the Parliament House closing. Just thought I'd give you a heads up. Not sure what technique you're using but if you've got some shortcut worked out just watch for errors. For the record, I've corrected the message on my userpage (which I successfully botched three times, thus my increasingly frustrated edit summaries!), updated the version in the article to the promoted version, and added the FP tag to the image page. Cheers, --jjron (talk) 13:11, 23 August 2009 (UTC)
- Yeah, I know how errors can sneak through, I think the most (in terms of promoted) that I ever tried in one hit was five cos you just start losing track of them all. And it takes me ages, especially if doing a few, cos I keep going back and checking and checking to try to make sure I've got it right. Anyway, just letting you know, cos though I can fix the mistakes, some that didn't know may be baffled by what had happened. --jjron (talk) 13:23, 23 August 2009 (UTC)
- Don't really mind either, but I think most closers have credited it as John O'Neill in the FP Gallery, I guess MER-C would have promoted most of mine and pretty sure that's what he did. May be hard for you to remember cos I'm not doing that much image work of my own atm, at least not in terms of FP stuff, so it may be a long time between drinks. Yeah, I never did anything like that re the word processor or anything, but did work out some 'quicker' ways of processing them - I think you have to or you'd go mad, it can easily take an hour for a single promotion the first time you do it just following the standard procedure! There's no way you'd keep that up. And as you say, those complexities with edits, multiple editors, co-nominators, etc, can all throw an extra spanner in the works, it's very easy to miss something. --jjron (talk) 13:53, 23 August 2009 (UTC)
- About thirty - that seems a lot! Must have been ones that credited me as editor and that as well. As long as it links back to my userpage I guess is the main thing, people can make their own way from there. I was thinking most were in as John O'Neill, but perhaps I had seen some credited as that and it had just stuck in my memory. I know you've said you use a different name on Commons, but didn't know you didn't like to be credited as SMH. How come you stick with it? --jjron (talk) 15:25, 23 August 2009 (UTC)
- Yeah, that's quite a story. I spose I can understand you using a pseudonym, though you're still making yourself quite traceable. I usually just try to avoid too much dispute (in fact that's the first time I'd ever looked at an arbcom page). Nonetheless I tend to stick to the pseudonyms too, but it was kind of an accident that my real name got into the image page template, but once it was there for a while I just left it. Actually was just wondering recently what happened to that Adam... guy, then got to thinking hang on, I think it might be SMH (as you know I don't bother with Commons FPC or anything like that, so hadn't clicked from that). You must have disappeared for a while completely perhaps (?), though I was also off for several months in early 2007 so I could have lost track then if it was round then you swapped over. --jjron (talk) 13:58, 24 August 2009 (UTC)
- Fair enough, that's all pretty drastic. I reckon I'd take a very long wikibreak if I got mixed up in something like that. Altercations here can certainly throw you in real life at times, but that's terrible that you got so stressed by it that it had that big an impact on your RL. --jjron (talk) 07:08, 28 August 2009 (UTC)

Navy Band
I saw you reverted your edit. I was looking around, for example here as well as here. They claim that use is restricted, "The recordings on this page are approved by the Department of Defense for use in public service broadcasting, recruiting, educational activities, troop morale, and retention. Recordings are NOT for sale and are to be used only within the scope of these official Department of Defense activities." But copyright law says otherwise, unless I am greatly mistaken. What would be the proper route to clarify this. Should we contact the band and ask for permission? Or try to start a discussion on enwiki or commons? Or just upload them, tag them, and wait for someone to object? Thatcher 14:29, 26 August 2009 (UTC)

If you guys want to de-FA it, I'm not going to oppose it. If nothing else, it does have current problems. It'd be a shame, though, if everyone just delisted it and then moved on. PA and AAAS
My understanding is that Margaret Mead, president of the AAAS, campaigned for the inclusion of the PA in 1969. The PA met all the requirements, was in good standing, and was accepted. Wheeler was there on the Board of the AAAS, voted against it, but was in the minority. A decade later he was to give a talk on quantum measurement and was pissed to find that he had to share the podium with a couple of parapsychologists, fearing "guilt by association". Afterwards he wrote a letter to the director of the AAAS asking that a panel be formed to review the PA's affiliation and eliminate it as "a consequence of the permissiveness of the Vietnam era". There are no details that I've read concerning Meade's efforts at inclusion, or the response to Wheeler's letter for exclusion, but his request was obviously denied. PA remains associated. No panel was ever created. Wheeler's beef was that his work on quantum measurement had been quoted earlier (not sure by whom) as supporting the paranormal, prior to the 1969 inclusion. He took offense to being portrayed as a supporter because some of his colleagues thought he had gone off the deep end. That's what the issue was. He didn't want to be associated with parapsychologists. Anything else would be speculation on my part. I didn't read the books. I read the excerpts. --Nealparr (talk to me) 15:16, 7 September 2009 (UTC)
- The most oft quoted portion of the speech that Mead gave to the AAAS in favor of parapsychology is...
- "The whole history of scientific advance is full of scientists investigating phenomena that the establishment did not believe were there".
- I'm sure there's a source for that speech somewhere. I believe that quote would be excellent for the article. Excellent because whether or not critics agree with the validity of the research, I'm sure most of them would agree that it explains the persistence of parapsychology. At the least, I think they would agree with this, and then begrudge it in the next breath. --Nealparr (talk to me) 17:39, 7 September 2009 (UTC)
- Well, I'm definitely not here to get involved in all of that : ) After about a year away from Wikipedia, I noticed the article was under FAR and thought I'd take a few minutes to clean it up here and there. I'm definitely on the outside of commitment in doing anything noteworthy or productive with Wikipedia. Not that I have anything against Wikipedia, but my biggest complaint has always run along the lines of "Lots of readers. Too many editors. Too few writers." If I saw more people writing content rather than just editing it, I'd probably help out more. --Nealparr (talk to me) 18:38, 7 September 2009 (UTC)
- And that is why I don't participate at Wikipedia very much anymore. Simple comments about policy, trying to be fair on topics, turn into editors who know nothing about me accusing me of guilt by association, as if I'm here to promote the topic instead of write well-written articles about it. Then I'm forced to defend my reputation as a neutral editor, just because I choose to participate in a controversial article. Life is way too short for all that drama. It's really not worth participating. --Nealparr (talk to me) 04:09, 13 September 2009 (UTC)

Heya pal,
I noticed that you participated at Wikipedia:Featured_sound_candidates/Livery_Stable_Blues. Since your support vote, an edited version of the file that removes hiss from the from file, has be suggested as an altenate version. Please return to the the FSC to see whether or not you support the editted version or not. Seddσn talk|WikimediaUK 01:08, 15 September 2009 (UTC)
RE: Ethical Conundrum
I'd have to discuss it with iMatt next time I'm on IRC. I would be fine with 3 myself. Although in another sense that could encourage people to contribute to FSC I think in the short term tempers may flair if you take credit for all of them. As I say, I'll ask iMatt. Crown Fountain FAC 4
At Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Crown Fountain/archive4, we have been asked to clip an .ogg file from 50 to approximately 10 seconds. I do not know anything about .ogg files and am unsure if my co-author knows how to edit them either. Are you willing and able to edit such a file type? Curious
Hi Shoemaker, just out of curiosity: what is so wrong with NagasakibombEdit.jpeg? (I saw your edit to Pacific War go by on Recent changes.) I've looked and looked but I can't see any differences--maybe, if you have a moment, you can tell me what to look for. Thanks! Drmies (talk) 18:27, 22 September 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks for your response--I'm glad we have experts on board. Drmies (talk) 18:36, 22 September 2009 (UTC)
What the editor did with the Nagasaki photo was simply to try to "clean up" this quite-large photo of various "stuff" that was on the print, or the scan, or whatever it was. I thought maybe someone had painted a face on it or something, from the reaction to it. Whether such cleanup is "appropriate" or not, I'm not sure, but it doesn't seem to be significantly different. →Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots 23:38, 22 September 2009 (UTC)
- As I said there, the attempts at colour matching where edits were made are often poor, hence changing the shape of the clouds in quite a lot of places in obviously unnecessary ways. Every discussion of imagerestoration I've ever seen has warned against that. Shoemaker's Holiday Over 206 FCs served 01:25, 23 September 2009 (UTC)
- I don't see where it changes the picture to where it makes any difference. But I understand the argument. It's a touchy area. If he had limited his cleanup to removing stuff that was obviously not part of the photo, he might have been better off. →Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots 01:31, 23 September 2009 (UTC)

RE
"The vacancy was due to ODB and Deaner arguing over who was the rightful champion, since Deaner gained the pinfall in the tag team match which won ODB the championship. TNA authority figure Mick Foley vacated the championship because of this situation.[4]" That should cover the info in the DYK and the Impact report from the reliable PWTorch should cover them arguing over it and the title being vacated as well.--WillC 19:58, 29 September 2009 (UTC)
- "Some kid's morning TV show interrupted Impact. There was a goofy Southern truck driver and his blond girlfriend. There was a guy wearing a George Washington wig and a gigantic toddler in a mask with a sparkly baseball bat. One gave another a gift of groceries. The gigantic toddler said "I love to eat." The host with big round bulging eyes (he might have hosted "Blues Clues" once) tried to keep everyone from acting too rowdy. The blond woman played with balloons in her shirt. The truck driver showed off pictures of celebrities on a pedestal such as Mike Tyson and Chuck Norris. In the end, Mick Foley held up the TNA Knockouts Title and said ODB will fight Deaner at a future date. Borash asked Foley if he's okay. Foley said sometimes you have to take a step back and regroup, and then when it's time to act, act with vengeance. Borash asked what he's up to. Foley said time will tell. " I guess Wade Keller decided to be a little funny when he wrote his report. I can change the ref to one more serious if you wish?--WillC 20:17, 29 September 2009 (UTC)
- Well I got maybe one or two more reports from PWTorch I can change to, one from Slam Sports, and one from WrestleView. Which one would you prefer?--WillC 20:31, 29 September 2009 (UTC)
- Done, changed to one from WrestleView, showing ODB saying she should be champ because it is a women's title, while Deaner saying he should because he has "knocked people out". Dumb storyline at the time, but was used to put more focus on crowning the new TNA Knockout Tag Team Champions.--WillC 22:29, 29 September 2009 (UTC)

Does this mean that you and I are going to be permanently tied on 1 FLC close each?! I closed one "back in the the old days..." when there were no FLC directors/delegates, and someone moaned. AfD nomination of List of scientists opposing the mainstream scientific assessment of global warming
An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is List of scientists opposing the mainstream scientific assessment of global warming. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Wikipedia:Notability and "What Wikipedia is not").
Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of scientists opposing the mainstream scientific assessment of global warming (3rd nomination). Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).
You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.
Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 01:08, 23 October 2009 (UTC)

Oversight
Arbcom has ruled in the past that private correspondence posted without the permission of all parties is removeable. Further, such correspondence may be inherently copyrighted, falling under "Removal of copyright infringement". I suggest you contact Mike Godwin for further details. -- Avi (talk) 19:48, 28 October 2009 (UTC)
- I apologize if you think I was engaged in pomposity. However, I do believe that your closeness to this issue and the reaction it is causing in you is not allowing you to accept that even as stated, oversight was appropriate due to potential copyright violations and ArbCom's previous rulings that personal communications posted without the consent of all parties is removeable. Perhaps you are correct that the wikipage is outdated and needs clarification. I will bring this up to ArbCom and the Oversight list. Thank you! -- Avi (talk) 20:07, 28 October 2009 (UTC)

A heads-up
There's been a spate of anon edits to articles frequented by Rodgarton. The IPs are in the 120.1x.xxx.xxx range. I suspect these are Rodgarton himself, even though several of them appear to be attempts to remove material added by Rodgarton. In his sole edit, anon-ip editor 120.18.109.108 identifies himself as Rodgarton. --Rrburke(talk) 18:25, 1 November 2009 (UTC)

If you don't mind me asking, why did you withdraw from the Wikicup? It seems like you might have won a trophy if you stayed in. Nezzadar [SPEAK] 05:37, 4 November 2009 (UTC)
Can you provide an update on your progress with this image? If you cannot finish your edit within a week or so, I'd like to close this nom. You could then re-nominate whenever your edit is ready. I don't mean to rush you. I just like to get these suspended noms out of the way. Thanks. Makeemlighter (talk) 03:15, 5 November 2009 (UTC)

Sounds in a Table
Hey SH, I was wondering if you could help me out. I'm looking for a way to get sounds into tables. I've made an example at User:Jujutacular/Sandbox, but I can't get it to look how I'd like it. If at all possible, I would like the sound to not take up too much room vertically, but still be playable without navigating away from the page. Do you know of anything I could do? Jujutacular T · C 00:52, 9 November 2009 (UTC)
- Nevermind, I think I've got a good solution there now. Let me know if you think there's a better method though. Jujutacular T · C 02:01, 9 November 2009 (UTC)

Copyright question
Hi, you're pretty knowledgable with sound recordings so I'm assuming you'll be able to answer my question. I'm thinking of uploading some of my files to Wikipedia or Commons, but I'm not sure how they stand with regards to copyright law. In particular I'm wondering if sounds published and copyrighted before 1923 are in the public domain, as it is with print sources. It would make sense that sound recordings be included here as well, but it appears that some lawyers think otherwise, with different provisions for sound recordings such as those stated on this page. What is Wikipedia's practice for uploading pre-1923 sound files? If they are restricted, how do you go about finding recordings that are in the public domain, since you have a lot to your credit? Any help is appreciated. ThemFromSpace 20:09, 23 November 2009 (UTC)

2010 WikiCup Signups Reconfirmation!
To ensure that everyone who signed up is still committed to participating in the 2010 WikiCup, it is required that you remove your name from this list! By removing your name, you are not removing yourself from the WikiCup. This is simply a way for the judges to take note of who has not yet reconfirmed their participation. If you have not removed your name from that list by December 30th, 2009 (by 23:59 (UTC)) then your name will be removed from the WikiCup.
It's worth noting the rules have changed, likely after you signed up. The changes made thus far are:
- Mainspace and/or portal edits will not be awarded points at all.
- Did you know? articles (which were worth 5 points last year) will now be worth 10 points.
- Good articles (which were worth 30 points last year) will now be worth 40 points.
- Valued pictures will be now awarded points, however the amount (5 or 10 points) is still being discussed.
- Featured lists (which were worth 30 points last year) will now be worth 40 points.
- Featured portals (which were worth 25 points last year) will now be worth 35 points.
- Featured articles (which were worth 50 points last year) will now be worth 100 points.
- Featured topics (which were worth 10 points per article last year) will now be worth 15 points per any article in the topic that you were a major contributor to.
- Good topics (which were worth 5 points per article last year) will now be worth 10 points per any article in the topic that you were a major contributor to.
- In the news will still be awarded points, however the amount (5 or 10 points) is still being discussed.
If you have any final concerns about the WikiCup's rules and regulations, please ask them now, before the Cup begins to avoid last minute problems. You may come to the WikiCup's talk page, or any of the judge's user talk pages. We're looking forwards to a great 2010 WikiCup! On behalf of the WikiCup judges, iMatthew talk at 03:46, 5 December 2009 (UTC)

Last chance to confirm your WikiCup participation!
Hi Shoemaker's Holiday! This is the last message that will go out to remind you that in order to participate in the 2010 WikiCup, you MUST remove your name from this list! Again, the reason for this reconfirmation is to ensure you've looked over the updated point values (which were different at the time you signed up) and to ensure that you are still interested in competing! If you don't have time to participate or no longer wish to, ignore this message and leave your name on the list. All names on the list will be removed from the contestants list before the Cup starts. Cheers! iMatthew talk at 14:29, 26 December 2009 (UTC)

hope you're good
sorry to read of all the shenanigans - regardless of how you're feeling about Durova, this project, or interest rates and the global economic outlook - I hope you're good. I posted at your arb case request what I thought would be a good outcome, which would be apologies from R for oversighting something (which kind of just escalated matters) and an apology from Durova for being agressive and rude in that chat - regardless of context I think that would be a good thing. It's pretty vacuous advice in many ways - but try and chill a bit if you're feeling heated about all this - it'll come out in the wash in the end.... Privatemusings (talk) 22:10, 9 March 2010 (UTC)

Request reason:
Change
{{unblock}}
to {{unblock | reason=your reason here ~~~~}}
Notes:
- In some cases, you may not in fact be blocked, or your block has already expired. Please check the list of active blocks. If no block is listed, then you have been autoblocked by the automated anti-vandalism systems. Please remove this request and follow these instructions instead for quick attention by an administrator.
- Please read our guide to appealing blocks to make sure that your unblock request will help your case. You may change your request at any time.
If you ask the blocking administrator to comment on this request, replace this template with the following, replacing "blocking administrator" with the name of the blocking admin:
{{Unblock on hold |1=blocking administrator |2=original unblock reason |3 = ~~~~}}
If you decline the unblock request, replace this template with the following code, substituting {{subst:Decline reason here}}
with a specific rationale. Leaving the decline reason unchanged will result in display of a default reason, explaining why the request was declined.
{{unblock reviewed |1=original unblock reason |decline = {{subst:Decline reason here}} ~~~~}}
If you accept the unblock request, replace this template with the following, substituting Accept reason here
with your rationale:
{{unblock reviewed |1=original unblock reason |accept = accept reason here ~~~~}}
- Your comment made snide remarks about the "original restoration".
- It has not escaped the Committee's notice that you uploaded that file to Commons after the Wikipedia ban was in place. Again, we cannot stop you from pursuing these disputes on Commons, but that you have elected to do so does not give you immunity when you decide to re-import those disputes here.
- You were blocked for your activities on Wikipedia, not your activities on Commons.
- I did note the block on your talk page. You promptly removed the notice. Steve Smith (talk) 20:45, 31 March 2010 (UTC)
- It is impossible to discuss why paper was cloned in at the top without mentioning the restoration crops very tightly in that area. That's basic discussion. You specifically excluded Commons, don't try to drag it back in, after excluding it. Shoemaker's Holiday talk 20:48, 31 March 2010 (UTC)
