So, who invented the first veggie burger? I can recall hearing of tofu burgers as early as the 1970s. They were mentioned in "Ruthless People." Morningstar Farms might be added to the list of popular vburgs. Flatulence concerns are not addressed, lol. This page could be linked from "soybean" or "borborygmus." Oppose though it is called "veggie burger", many of these burgers are not actually made of vegetables, rather it is made from vegetative matter and fungi, a "vegetarian burger" for vegetarians. "vegetative" and "vegetarian" is not the same as "vegetable", so the proposed name is wrong and misleading -- 65.92.246.142 (talk) 04:40, 29 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose. They're called "veggie burgers". I don't think I've ever seen or heard "vegetable burger". I have seen "vegetarian burger", which I assume is the origin of the name "veggie burger". -:I think the article focuses too heavily on the idea of veggie burgers being a 'substitute' for meat burgers, when many varieties (particularly 'spicy bean burgers') have their own distinctive taste. I am not vegetarian but will sometimes have a veggie burger (or any other 'vegetarian' option for that matter) simply because it's what I want to have.

-I've tasted dozens of veggie burgers, and the one that most resembles beef (as far as I can remember the taste of beef) is/was made by Bird's Eye, but only in the UK. The Veggie Burger available in MacDonald's in the UK is also pretty meat-like. Wordwide, Linda McCartney veggie burgers (and even more so, sausages) are perhaps the best choice for somebody looking for a meat-like burger experience. However, I think that one should consider that a beefburger has its own taste, just a chicken burger has its own taste, so there's nothing wrong with a veggie burger having its own taste. And there are hundreds of styles of veggie burgers, each with a different taste and texture. A veggie burger is an alternative, not always just a 1 for 1 substitute for a beefburger.
