The 2025 FIA Formula 3 Championship is a planned motor racing championship for Formula 3 cars sanctioned by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA). The championship is the sixteenth season of Formula 3 racing and the seventh season run under the FIA Formula 3 Championship moniker. It is an open-wheel racing category serving as the third tier of formula racing in the FIA Global Pathway. The category will be run in support of selected rounds of the 2025 FIA Formula One World Championship. As the championship is a spec series, all teams and drivers competing in the championship will run the same car.
Prema Racing will enter the season as the reigning Team's Champions having secured their title in the penultimate race of the 2024 in Spa-Francorchamps.
2025 will see the introduction of a new Dallara-built chassis, with the championship retiring the Dallara F3 2019 it had used since its inaugural season in 2019.

editThe following teams are scheduled to compete in the 2025 FIA Formula 3 Championship.[1] As the championship is a spec series, all teams compete with an identical Dallara-built chassis with an engine developed by Mecachrome.[2] All teams will compete with tyres supplied by Pirelli.

Team changes
editAfter 15 years of competition in FIA F3 and its predecessor GP3, Jenzer Motorsport will depart the championship to focus on its Formula 4 efforts.[8] As a result, DAMS Lucas Oil will take over their spot as the series' tenth team, returning to the third tier of FIA-sanctioned formula racing for the first time since the 2017 GP3 Series.[9]
Driver changes
editPrema Racing have an all new-lineup as all three of their drivers graduated to Formula 2: 2024 runner-up Gabriele Minì stayed with Prema, Red Bull junior Arvid Lindblad moved to Campos Racing and Ferrari junior Dino Beganovic joined Hitech Pulse-Eight.[10][11][12] Two McLaren juniors will graduate from the Formula Regional European Championship to the series in Ugo Ugochukwu and Brando Badoer, while Prema's final seat will be taken by Noel León, who departs Van Amersfoort Racing after coming tenth with the team in 2024.[13][14][15]
Trident also took on three new drivers as reigning champion Leonardo Fornaroli and Sami Meguetounif moved up to Formula 2, with Fornaroli joining Invicta Racing and Meguetounif staying with Trident, and Santiago Ramos departed the team.[16][17] The team recruited Charlie Wurz, who came 22nd with Jenzer Motorsport in his debut Formula 3 season.[18] Trident's lineup will be completed by two drivers stepping up from FRECA in reigning series champion Rafael Câmara, who drove for Prema, and rookie champion Noah Strømsted, who came sixth driving for RPM and made a one-off FIA F3 appearance in 2024 with Campos Racing.[19][20]
ART Grand Prix saw Nikola Tsolov and Christian Mansell leave the team, with the former moving over to Campos Racing and the latter graduating to Formula 2 with Rodin Motorsport.[21][22] To replace them, it signed the drivers that came second and third in FRECA in 2024: James Wharton, who drove for Prema and made his FIA F3 debut when he substituted for Martinius Stenshorne at Hitech Pulse-Eight, and Ferrari junior Tuukka Taponen, who drove for R-ace GP and already substituted at ART for Tsolov for a round in 2024.[23][24]
Campos Racing signed two drivers switching from other teams to replace Oliver Goethe and Sebastián Montoya as both graduated to Formula 2 with MP Motorsport and Prema Racing respectively.[25][26] Tasanapol Inthraphuvasak, who leaves AIX Racing after coming 24th with the team in his debut season, returns to the team he drove for in Eurocup-3 in 2023, while Nikola Tsolov ended his second F3 season with ART Grand Prix in eleventh and returns to the team with whom he won the 2022 Spanish F4 title.[27][22]
Hitech Pulse-Eight promoted Luke Browning to its Formula 2 outfit and saw Cian Shields depart the team.[28] It promoted one driver from their GB3 outfit, with Gerrard Xie graduating to FIA F3 after coming seventh with the team in 2024, and hired one driver from a rival team, with Joshua Dufek departing AIX Racing after finishing his debut season in 28th.[29][30]
MP Motorsport will also have two new drivers following the departures of Alex Dunne and Kacper Sztuka. To replace them, they promoted Bruno del Pino from their Eurocup-3 outfit, where he was the rookie champion in 2023, and signed Williams Academy driver Alessandro Giusti, who steps up from FRECA after coming fourth in 2024 with ART Grand Prix.[31][32]
Noel León and Tommy Smith left Van Amersfoort Racing, with León moving to Prema and Smith departing the series after two seasons to compete in Indy NXT with HMD Motorsports.[15][33] 2023 Spanish F4 champion Théophile Naël will join the team after coming ninth in FRECA with Saintéloc Racing.[34]
Rodin Motorsport also took on two new drivers as Piotr Wiśnicki and Joseph Loake left the team. It promoted reigning GB3 Champion Louis Sharp from its outfit in that championship and signed 2024 Formula Regional Oceania Champion Roman Bilinski, who has been competing with Trident in FRECA for the past three years.[35][36]
AIX Racing saw Inthraphuvasak and Dufek move to Campos Racing and Hitech Pulse-Eight, respectively.[27][30] The team signed 2024 Eurocup-3 champion Javier Sagrera to fill one of these seats.[37]
New team DAMS Lucas Oil signed Matías Zagazeta, who embarks on his second season in the championship after coming 25th with Jenzer Motorsport in 2024.[38] Alpine Academy driver Nicola Lacorte will also join the team, graduating from FRECA after coming 21st with Trident there in 2024.[39]
Two of the three drivers that competed for the departing Jenzer Motorsport team joined other FIA F3 teams, with Wurz joining Trident and Zagazeta signing with DAMS.[18][38] Max Esterson will leave the series to join Trident in Formula 2.[40]

Regulation changes
editTechnical regulations
editThe season will see the introduction of a brand new chassis and engine package.[2] The Dallara F3 2019 chassis, which had been used by Formula 3 since 2019, will be replaced by the Dallara F3 2025.
Results and standings
editScoring system
editPoints will be awarded to the top ten classified finishers in both races. The pole-sitter in the feature race will also receive two points, and one point will be given to the driver who set the fastest lap in both the feature and sprint races, provided that driver finished inside the top ten. If the driver who set the fastest lap is classified outside the top ten, the point will be given to the driver who set the fastest lap of those inside the top ten. No extra points will be awarded to the pole-sitter in the sprint race as the grid for it will be set by reversing the top twelve qualifiers.
