Aleppo Map
Salam to all. I have just uploaded this file and I would like someone to correct his description. A lot of websites write that its author is Nasuh Al-Matrakî. I don't know who he was. At first I thought it meant Matrakçı Nasuh. But he died long before 1600. Or maybe it's him, so the map is not from 1600. I wish everyone good. Smpad (talk) 18:57, 23 April 2023 (UTC)
The summary section of the article for this book could use a rewrite and I thought that somebody who's got some expertise in post-colonial / Arabic studies might be interested. See the talk page. voorts (talk/contributions) 23:48, 29 April 2023 (UTC)
North Africans are invaders myth
Hello, I have come to ask for help on a topic that I lack knowledge in. Recently I have been seeing claims that the modern-day inhabitants of North Africa are the descendants of invaders and that the indigenous people of North Africa are actually "Black Africans" that were forcibly removed, and that all of the accomplishments of North Africa before the spread of Islam were made by said "Black Africans". I know that these claims are (probably) untrue, but the frequency of these claims appearing before me is high enough for me to look if there was a Wikipedia article on it. Is this topic notable enough to make into an article, especially with the recent backlash these claims have made in Egypt with Kevin Hart's show being cancelled and Netflix being sued for its portrayal of Cleopatra as a Black woman? Also, if there is something I'm wrong about in this post please tell me, I'm not too knowledgeable in this subject. – Treetoes023 (talk) 14:44, 8 May 2023 (UTC)
- I think these issues are already covered in specific articles about populations and historical figures. There's even a dedicated Cleopatra race controversy article. The fact that North Africans have unique DNA that separates them from both the Middle East and sub-Saharan Africa should also be a pointer that they're their own thing, and is already mentioned in various articles. FunkMonk (talk) 14:50, 8 May 2023 (UTC)
- @FunkMonk: I did not know that this issue was already partially covered in some articles, thank you for telling me. Although, I do believe that this topic does has enough merit to be its own article where it can be covered to its full extent. For example, I do not think that the origin of this claim has been covered in other articles, and I'm sure there is more information that is not covered in any article. Theoretically, if this topic were to become an article, the biggest problem would be that I do not know what the name for it would be. – Treetoes023 (talk) 15:04, 8 May 2023 (UTC)
- There is also stuff like Ancient Egyptian race controversy, as for a wider article, I think most of it is already covered in the Afrocentrism article. FunkMonk (talk) 15:09, 8 May 2023 (UTC)
- @FunkMonk: Okay, I'll research the topic further and look around Wikipedia to see if there is any information not covered in any article and if the information on the topic is large enough for its own article instead of being contained inside of the Afrocentrism article. – Treetoes023 (talk) 15:17, 8 May 2023 (UTC)
